As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think I posted it a few months back but it's easy to miss. Sorry to hear that channel is gone. I never did get to watch those new 1985 videos.

Right as Trump begs the media to help him because without him they won't get ratings, the NYT indulges: They will do anything to help this monster. They are monsters themselves.

That's very sad. There's so much tragedy and depression in the Presley family - for three generations now.

Just shameful and wretched. They are so desperate to get this man 4 more years they will do absolutely anything, even gassing up the bare minimum, well after the fact.

Sorry, I should have put a warning on how gross the old days could be... That era is "my" SNL and I still love and miss so many from that period, especially Jan and Phil. I'm so glad Susan got to host around then. Game Breakers, the monologue, and All My Luggage are absolutely timeless.

Finally, more media focus on what a phony and a scumbag Jeff Zucker is.

The quality of the show really drops markedly after the Dobsons leave. I wish they had stayed longer, as it seems like, other than a few years at SB, GL was their peak. Absolutely gripping emotional drama and very layered, human characters, and full of top-notch performances. Some of the material can be tiring at times, especially the perpetually suffering ladies (which is probably one of the reasons viewers seemed to embrace Katie so quickly even though she was very alien to most of the GL I've seen up to that point), but it is still strong. Brilliant a writer as Marland is, there is a strangely rudderless and small feeling and also an inherent blandness that creeps over the canvas, made even more jarring by the random as hell camp camp camp camp that bursts through.

Someone has been uploading every SNL episode onto the Internet Archives. This one has, at about 23 minutes, Susan Lucci's bit in a Night of 1,000 Stars event that was "attended" by Billy Crystal's Fernando Lamas. https://archive.org/details/saturday-night-live-s-10-e-14-pamela-sue-martin-power-station_202007 This is Susan's episode. She was fortunate in that she not only hosted at a time when the show was well-written, but also at a low for female cast members, with Jan Hooks having to do most of the heavy lifting. As a result she has starring roles in three sketches along with smaller bits in others (she's only missing from one sketch the whole night) - I'm sure you've all seen the main two more than once, but there's another where she plays a mother-from-hell sending her teenage daughter into crying jags that is also worth a watch. https://archive.org/details/saturday-night-live-s-16-e-02-susan-lucci-hothouse-flowers

It's the grifters and Bernie lovers who think if you care about racism, you are ignoring the pain of white voters who would otherwise be on your side (I'll never forget one of them saying that if Trump just "toned down the racism" she'd vote for him). Many on the left are racist and hide that behind populism. They say oh he's anti-war (he isn't) or he says common sense things (he doesn't), you don't have to agree with everything an ally says. Also Krystal Ball or Glenn Greenwald types who love to go on his show and laugh along with him.

Waiting for all those "cancel culture" people to pitch a fit and demand his job back. They will too...and all those trashbag fauxgressives who love Tucker and claim he is a populist hero will be upset too since they are all more than fine with racism to get what they want.

It's an interesting story for the film noir elements - I do wonder how the strike impacted it (she seemed to be more fixated on Tom pre-strike). It seemed to be panned at the time (SOD named it worst story of 1988).

The Politics Thread
I'm not down, per se (although I appreciate the kindness) as much as resigned to what we're probably getting 4 more years of, but I just feel like the more that the tail-chasing narratives are cleared out and we have a direct contrast to Trump's policies, the more it will refine the message and prevent media bias from dominating.

The Politics Thread
I'm sure it isn't to them - I'm talking more about Congress and social media, where this all just ends up going around in circles and people end up feeling demoralized and defeated over a complicated and stalled out narrative (as also happened with impeachment and Mueller). Sure enough, the whole thing is already being spun as a "win" for Trump in the media.

The Politics Thread
Steve Bannon has already jumped in to praise this - which means the Republicans are obviously trying to sink it and overshadow any positive rollout (not that the media will give any). Apparently that old shitbag Navarro is fuming because he had an Executive Order along these lines drawn up for months and Kushner/Mnuchin blocked Trump from signing it. If Trump loses, Kushner will likely be the key reason why.

Will have to watch that later. The Loving murder episodes are going back up on Youtube. pannoni has also reuploaded this, I think for the second or third time.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Such a weird house. I preferred it to Reva living in Vanessa's house (that was always Vanessa's house to me), but the stairs in that place always freaked me out. I think someone did tumble down them at one point. I'm glad Jill Lorie Hurst, or whoever, at least briefly remembered Reva and Philip's friendship in the show's last year.- Y&R to air classic episodes
After they trashed Jana so thoroughly as a character I can't believe they have the gall to push her wedding. And they aren't bothering to show any of the material that made Michael a compelling character. I'd rather track down the Red Shoe Diaries episode where CLB was rolling around bare-assed on a kitchen table than go through that material.- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread

Best of luck to Joy on that awful network. Speaking of awful, the "paper of record" apparently wants us to feel sorry for R Kelly??????- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Shameful game-playing. Exactly what I would expect of a man who let the AIDS crisis worsen.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
It was pretty stupid at the time to have three men who wanted Reva. I don't even think that was the case when Pam Long was writing the show. It didn't help that the Save Fifth Street story was so uninvolving. I did think Reva and Buzz were better than they might have seemed on paper. There was one fun scene I still remember when they had yet to consummate their relationship and were sitting in their bedroom, knowing Hawk was listening (as he was trying to prove they weren't really a couple). They were playing cards while making "passionate" sounds. They were broken up immediately after McTavish and Laibson were let go. Buzz caught her at Cross Creek with Josh and dumped her, as he knew she would never want him the way she wanted Josh.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I had quit watching by 2005. Watching it since, I would say I am not a fan of having only a few people in an opening or an opening so centric on one "face." I also thought it was very generic and ABC-ish, like much of P&G by that time. The "Destiny" ad is even more generic and low-budget, but I don't mind it as much, since it does go back to GL's original concept, and reminds me a little of a cornier version of a Sisters opening sequence I was very fond of. - Loving/The City Discussion Thread
