The Mark Freurstein (or whatever his name was) of his day...- Harry and Meghan Interview with Oprah
My heart goes out to Meghan, but the whole experience has become so ugly I have mostly just stepped back. I can't imagine what she must be going through.- Stars who didn't conquer TV
Mary Steenburgen eventually found a critically praised cult show (Last Man on Earth), but her most high-profile foray into television was Ink, a show that generated buzz due to her pairing with husband Ted Danson as well as being Danson's return to series TV. It was a one-season wonder. Nia Vardalos adapted My Big Fat Greek Wedding to TV, notably without John Corbett (someone I've always found to be dull but who has managed a long career due to wise decisions - like avoiding this show). Initial huge ratings quickly cooled, but they still might have stayed on if not for her reportedly being difficult. Back when TV Guide still tried to be more than a few pieces of glossy paper with nothing between them, they had an expose of the show - the article ended with, I believe, Les Moonves blasting Vardalos and saying he would never work with her again. At the time I did not know what an ass Moonves was, so I was shocked seeing an executive be so blunt and harsh in TV Guide, of all places.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

I was recommended this clip, for whatever reason. These aren't Elizabeth's last scenes (those take place in the prison breakout I have vague memories of seeing in other clips), but they are probably the final tribute to what a superb actress Lois Kibbee was. Even with just a guest appearance, she gives her all, with none of her usual bravado, or even any makeup. She is given some of the patches of good, human material OLTL still had around this time, which seemed to leave for the rest of Rauch's tenure after the departure of S Michael Schnessel. Her last line to Clint (Clint Ritchie is also in good form here) really stays with you. That makes sense. I guess we're lucky they didn't say it was Richard Dean Anderson.- News & Gossip from the mid-1980s per The Soaps of Yesterday
By this time Harry Dean Stanton wasn't a big name, but was a very well-respected television and film actor. I'd think if he was on the show it would have been in a guest role, like Uta Hagen around this period.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Her phrasing and performance abilities are perfect for the soap chanteuse format. That song was mostly the same guff which seemed to spin around in the late '70s and early '80s from one 30something easy listening songstress to another (the part about the Great Wall of China feels very "someone lost a bet"), but she makes it work. Fitting that she was crossing over with Patty Weaver, who did the same. (is it me or does Trish seem out of place with this period? Then again so does Abe...) The Doug and Julie scenes were also worth the watch. I am sure some people might have found their double act annoying, but for me it works, and the mix of comedy and banter between them during all the high drama feels real. SSH also looks very chic here.- B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles

Too little too late, but it's better than nothing. Perma-smirking from one monster and constantly looking like you shat your pants from the other monster is the height of intellectual discourse:- The Politics Thread

At this point I feel like anyone who wants to keep the filibuster is our enemy, to be honest (I'm aware they aren't the only ones - Dianne Feinstein is also a fan).- The Politics Thread
It would pass if the filibuster was abolished.- The Politics Thread
I agree with you (and I also tend to believe the reports at how thrown Democrats were to even win the Senate - a number of them would have had a much easier life in the minority). With that said, this was the one time "bipartisanship" actually ended up being real, as if not for Lisa Murkowski voting down an amendment banning trans kids from being able to play in sports, the whole bill likely would have been scuttled. (you can guess who voted for it...) I think this is what they would probably be doing in the majority (along with trying to persecute the Biden family for umpteenth made-up scandals), but we would not be getting the help we are at least getting now. I just wish there was any way that Manchin and Sinema would do more, instead of being so proud of themselves for their posturing and hurting poor people. Look at this idiotic, right wing fever dream response to criticisms of Sinema's antics: [!@#$%^&*] like this is why I don't know if anyone else would be able to keep the caucus under tighter control, even if the idea of Amy Klobuchar throwing staplers does amuse me.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Joe Manchin is a ghoul. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/03/05/covid-aid-bill-senate-vote-amendments-473805 The Portman amendment will cut more unemployment money for people and may not even pass the House. If he goes for this then either the bill will fail, or Democrats will take a big loss by voting for it. Just scum. And too rich to care about all those he will bring suffering to with his endless right wing posturing.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

Sad news. Gil was a consistent highlight for me when he played Hawk, even though on paper the character would not have amounted to much. He and Marj Dusay even made the "Queenie" banter charming, somehow. That was when I first warmed to Marj as Alex. His best was usually saved for scenes with "Sister" (Reva) - Gil and Kim Zimmer had something special. Even though he wasn't there for the finale I'm glad they had Hawk return briefly in that last year.- The Politics Thread
Imagine being this eager to vote down an increase in the minimum wage, as well as pander to McCain voters like they are children. I have no faith in her staying in the party if it comes the time when it really counts.- The Politics Thread
