  1. There was an SOD issue from 1986 (I think) which said GL was planning to recast Hope. I guess that never happened because of producer changeover, then when Long returned and brought in a rapid-aged Alan-Michael, Hope was aged out.
  2. Lesley Ann was a mousy nurse (as the joke went, it was fitting that she died after being bitten by a mouse in the Dreaming Death storyline). She was dating Floyd during his singing days, only to be blackmailed by Josh due to her past as a hooker. She then married Warren Andrews.
  3. The huge pile-up is actually one of the parts that reminds me of Trump, although hopefully someone will break through. I know Maya Wiley seems to have the most progressive support.
  4. Andrew Yang is the beneficiary of endless media coverage and a web of extremely right wing operatives who guide his movements. He will be a dangerous joke if he is elected, but there doesn't seem to be much stopping him. It's Trump all over again.
  5. The Bay City Rollers had such a tragic history as a band - exploited, abused, robbed. I love a lot of their songs. Sad news about McKeown.
  6. Honestly, if the show had not been so JR-heavy I think I'd be more connected to it. I feel like he was a suffocating presence in the long run.
  7. I would say JR was the star on Dallas, but Sue Ellen and Pamela were also huge names, probably as much as Bobby. I liked Bobby, and I even liked his relationship with April, but I don't disagree with those who feel he was a bit thin under Duffy's charm. (I will say I think Pam was a bit thin too, at least once the more complex writing of the first few seasons left)
  8. I was in disbelief over that Nate Cohn nonsense, @Vee . There's nothing worse than pundits who think they have come up with a very Clever commentary (in this case...both sides bad), then keep tripling down at any sign of criticism. These people have such a wide audience, their stubbornness and posturing has dangerous consequences. Speaking of that, Nate Silver has been desperately crusading for days over "proof" of the public rejecting vaccines due to the J&J pause. He has now been reduced to anecdotal evidence.
  9. A profile on the girl in the Kent State photo, and the man who took the photo. https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazine/2021/04/19/girl-kent-state-photo-lifelong-burden-being-national-symbol/
  10. True. I agree with you - a documentary might break through to people in a way a loathsome figure like Andy Cohen won't.
  11. It doesn't help that some of the more high-profile soap fans are very polarizing people who only seem to be interested in cheap camp aspects.
  12. Yes, but many people loved Jock, and then Jim Davis had actually passed away in real life. I can see why they were put off. Imagine if BBG had passed away and they kept trying to bring poor Donna Reed in as a not-really-dead Miss Ellie. Even recasting Miss Ellie with BBG still alive upset many fans.
  13. Another big business Republican to be replaced by a grifting lunatic, I imagine. This gives Pelosi a little more room for difficult votes.
  14. @I Am A Swede an original airing of a 1990 episode. Emmerdale - Episode 1512 - Thursday 6th December 1990 - YouTube
  15. She was sent packing sometime in 1977, I think. I don't remember if she even made it to Monty. I think she is in some of the 1977 clips on Youtube.
  16. Twitter is mostly down right now, but Weiss was also cheerleading for the loathsome Amy Chua (whose husband is an alleged predator and who also allegedly helped find attractive young female clerks for Brett Kavanaugh). https://abovethelaw.com/2021/04/amy-chua-defends-herself-and-floodgates-open-with-alums-calling-bs/ I don't know if anyone outside of other grifters has any respect for her now, but if they do, they are damn fools. You probably already saw it but Politico was working hard yesterday trying to drive more of a wedge between AOC and Pelosi (I didn't see much response from any of them - I suppose at this point AOC being nearly as loathed by the dead-end left as Pelosi is makes conflict less likely) and also cheering loathsome Joe Scarborough for berating Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney about "defund the police" (he blew up after Maloney rightfully dismissed that as a talking point).
  17. I don't buy any of this from them. They will probably form a new caucus under a slightly less ugly name and then we will be invited to praise them for their moderation. It's all a game.
  18. It's something that Jane Wyman, who was seriously ill, apparently went against doctor's orders to return for the final few episodes, and even wrote that lovely speech to tie up loose ends and remind viewers of the themes of Falcon Crest one last time. Larry Hagman presumably cared a lot about Dallas, but if he had any real influence over the end of Dallas, I sure couldn't see it.
  19. I know some felt that (aside from Angelica Nero and such) the stories in the dream season were better than the Bobby return season. Did you?
