Don Young, the very long-serving Congressman from Alaska, has passed away. I doubt I agreed with Young on much of anything, but I also have little doubt that whoever replaces him is going to be much worse. (it's also why I'm not a big term limits person - it would just get us even MORE of Boebert, MTG, Cawthorn, etc.)

I enjoyed him on To the Manor Born, but I remember him best for his small but crucial part on Survivors, which really helps to set up how you could never predict anything on that show.

Washington Post continues to sink to the bottom. I think I hate them even more than New York Times, because they have so many "writers" who are way too online and think they are [!@#$%^&*] adorable.

It is, like so much of American policy, out of sight, out of mind. They want to just forget the death and illness, even though it is still ongoing. They also bow to pressure again and again, as shown with the vote yesterday calling for the end of mask mandates on planes. An older woman who is a friend of the family talked recently about when she went to the store, wearing her mask, and some teenagers were laughing at her, and coughing near her or on her. It's so demoralizing, because, as so often happens in this country, hate won, bullies won, cowardice won, misinformation won.

Last I heard she was living in a caravan. That's it. They have now brought Louise Jameson in as Rhona's mother, and they have Paddy's father, and Rodney, Eric, and Faith, but that's not enough to make up for what you mention. I think another problem is the soaps no longer are willing to write older characters as older characters. You have people who are 70 or 80 written as being much younger. There is no real sense of generations, history, or community. Speaking of that, I just saw that a few weeks ago, someone put up an episode from September 1989...VERY hard to find anything from that period. There are some audio and visual issues, very tinny sound, but I think you will still enjoy it.

Over and over, star writers and star personalities, and their sycophants, have put the final nails in the coffin of this genre. The current gruesomely untalented, thin-skinned HW of DAYS being one of the best and worst examples.

Hall was the correspondent who responded to that dickless pig Gutfeld's whining about how showing images of death and violence in Ukraine was manipulating viewers.

I was reading about the comments Rebel Wilson made after Will Smith won Best Actor at the BAFTAs (dragging him for Jada being with other men). I know that Jada herself brought all that up on her talk show, but I wish so many of these hosts would stop trying to "shock" everyone and just tell a few jokes and get the hell out of the way. It's just graceless, and tired.

I think he's saying a lot of that because he knows he will be accused of being a warmonger (even more than he already is) and give many on the left and the right an opening to go after him (more than they already are). I also wonder if it's because he was a young man when nuclear buildup began, and not in the position of comfort and delusion that Trump was in.

William Hurt was capable of ugliness, as Marlee Matlin has written about. He was also a wonderful actor and, in the '80s, one of the most gorgeous men ever to be captured on film. Really thrown to hear he's passed away.

So sad to hear this...I was very lucky to have Sesame Street, and characters like Luis, helping me when I was growing up.
