  1. @safe Love your insights. I never thought about the jewelry and the different actresses and what they did or didn't wear.
  2. Neither have I. It looked crazy. Must have been something to choreograph.
  3. Is that the best take they had for Javi's boo hoo? I know soaps are often behind, but nice as it is to see Julie, how many want to see New Year's a week late? Do you think this is a hint of an upcoming Passions crossover?
  4. About 30 years ago I remember an SOD feature on roles soap actors had before they had bigger parts and I saw a photo of "Mouse" and Frisco, I think in fishing gear.
  5. I think the whole episode is a dream. They do that again around 2002, but the show wasn't as ugly at this point. The 1996 Thanksgiving is one of the more entertaining "special episodes" soaps were doing in the '90s and '00s.
  6. I really liked Julia and she did have her own existence outside of Brenda. I'd be happy to see her again, unlikely as that is.
  7. Thanks. Never heard of the book. I was very fond of Jupiter Moon. A silly show but becomes more serious and the characters all actually develop. I can't believe I managed to watch the whole show on Netflix back when they had discs. I know some fans blamed that domestic violence story Sean O'Connor did before he went on to run roughshod at EE.
  8. This amuses me as Rauch did even worse with Annie yet tried to bring her back within months. Maybe that's what he took for inspiration...
  9. Thanks @robbwolff I had forgotten Sloan wanted to leave. No wonder she regretted it - not sure she did much after the show. Nice to see that Joel Crothers remembered his old Dark Shadows face. That's just how he looked when Joe was attacked by a werewolf.
  10. @alwaysAMC Kudos for watching through. I know that is not an easy period to rewatch (hell I think I had quit watching by this point in 1996). I don't know how someone makes screen grabs from a Youtube video but that grab of the Roger mask is...something. Maybe Roger was watching a lot of DAYS in the asylum.
  11. A lookalike story with Maeve could have been very striking. I would have had Miles see her while he and Beth were on their honeymoon.
  12. I was thinking more at the time. I agree a recast now would be the inevitable choice. I think if they aren't going to do much more with the current Spencers, bringing in some Eckerts could work (maybe he could be paired with Liz - in a world where she gets a story).
  13. Thanks. That's a nice idea. I hope more of those lost episodes are found, if it isn't too late.
  14. Constance McCashin Returns! Knots Landing’s Laura Avery Talks Seaview Circle. Recent Locher Room interview, via the seminar Alan Locher did last year.
  15. @vetsoapfan This must be around the start of Laurie Ann's return (she isn't appearing yet, but they are mentioning visiting her and Mike worries he is causing her to relapse). THE EDGE OF NIGHT - DECEMBER 3 1984
  16. It's a shame they didn't try to figure out something with Sly. The actor is very good. At least he wasn't killed, I guess.
  17. I only ever saw a partial version of this episode until now so put the full version on Youtube. I don't think we're in a hurry go to back to 1996 but @alwaysAMC as you finished this period not long ago you may enjoy it. @P.J. I also found an ad about Billy's return to Springfield. Those "wilder/wilder than ever" ads are so absurd. Beth Ehlers looks like she is about to crack up. I can't believe they even had Daniel Pilon do one with Alan's wheelchair. Guiding Light promo (1989)
  18. There were a few ATWT episodes on Archive that I couldn't find on Youtube so I uploaded them (if I just missed them, my apologies). Sometimes I think, "Was 1996 really any better just because so much after was horrible?" I don't watch enough of 1996 to answer my question. I did skim through this episode and there's one scene I appreciated - Kim bonding with Dani and wanting her to move into the Hughes home because of how much Betsy meant to her. (just another reason the show never properly bringing Betsy back, not even in Dani's stay, was such a bad idea) 1989 is not complete, but I couldn't find it on Youtube (the original upload said June 26th but the Y&R seemed to be the 27th so I just went with it - if I'm wrong, I'll correct) and I thought putting more Marland, even incomplete, was worthwhile. Marland never uses the term, as I'm not sure if the term existed at that time, but it took me a while to pick up on how he details Emily essentially grooming him, as James had done to her, even if she did not fully realize what she was doing. Andy Kavovit and Melanie Smith worked so well together and there were many layers to their relationship. Something the show loses with the later poor recasts of Emily and Paul (the characters they were in the finale bear no resemblance to who they are here). On a lighter note, the episode has a fun scene with Duke lip synching to "Duke of Earl" as Pam, Lien and Andy back him up. This was probably Marland's idea of a rebel (straight out of the '50s), but it made me smile, which we always need more of.
  19. I used to laugh at the "meaningful glance" moments and how cold and stylized the show was in that time, but looking back now, I appreciate that Bill Bell was giving Y&R its own identity. Something that the show has sorely lacked for many years.
  20. I think Genie has some resentment toward Laura as well, and that is part of why she wanted to play roles that were meant to be more interesting (like Caera and whoever the hell she was on Y&R), but she always seemed more clear-eyed than Tony. I guess because she never got away with what he got away with. She also had to put up with much more than he did.
  21. Tristan was on Y&R when Tony left GH.
  22. Thanks @Vee good to hear his thoughts; feels especially stinging that this was made in a year where they didn't even have a Christmas special.
  23. That's what I was most put off by about the Guza years. He hated everything about GH. He likely resented having to slum on a soap instead of his failed film career. I can't even say he had a righteous objection to Luke and Laura. It wasn't the rape that he seemed to object to as much as he objected to every single part of the show. This is the same writer who had a woman told that she was only worthwhile as a person when she was bleeding in the snow after being raped, and we were meant to agree with this.
