American Gigolo
Jon Bernthal seems like odd casting to me.

I thought Paige was interesting, in that brittle way, but I was never interested in her love life, which took up a lot of time. Her relationship with Anne was her most compelling role, and maybe her corporate moments.

There was never really any real point of interest for Eric or Michael on that front. I think where Eric works best is as the soul of the family. Steve Shaw had a very powerful presence in that respect. The family is never really the same for me after he's written out - they just get colder and aside from some scattered moments between Mack and Karen I no longer feel any connection to them. But the whole show becomes colder as the '80s wind down and the POV shifts to the eyes of characters like Paige and Greg.

Bevan, another smarmy figure who gets a Beltway pass, is also trying to revive the media attacks against Mark Udall, this time toward John Fetterman, because of Fetterman campaigning on abortion rights. I wouldn't be surprised if the same media who worked overtime to sink Udall click their heels over this again, as they have been trying their best to help Oz. I don't really know if it would be as effective due to Roe falling. Nate Cohn has written up a lengthy series of tweets (and a paywalled article) about how the polls this year that are positive for Democrats are a mirage and that they will likely do poorly. I also don't trust polls, and I think Republicans will probably narrowly win the Senate if things keep tilting the way they have lately, but I have a feeling he, and the NYT, would be giddy if the polls were reversed. You can usually sense his unease if the GOP isn't in command.- Knots Landing
I don't know if I can see her as Emily but she would have been better than what we got. My main complaints about Olivia were less Harold (although beyond looking good shirtless he didn't offer much) and more that they made the mistake of just having her there to be a brattier Saffron to Abby's Edwina in those last few years. By the time Abby left, it meant Olivia was completely isolated and limited as a character.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread

I'm not sure if Diana was ever popular with viewers. I tend to see her as an irritant even before Chip, similar to her vapid CBS cousin Vicky on Falcon Crest a few years later. Knots never knew how to write for the kids of the main characters (the waste/misuse of Olivia in her last years is still disheartening) as they reached a certain age anyway.- ALL: They Almost Became
In an April 1976 magazine profile, it was mentioned that Jeff Pomerantz had to decline a short-term role on GL due to theater commitments.- The Politics Thread
Sure enough wagons are already circling in the replies, blaming anti-Semitism. New York politicians are too scared to address these issues because they see Hasidic Jews as a key voting bloc. I remember a lot of talk about all the enabling from Bill de Blasio. I'm not sure how much stock I put in this as the polls are already inching back their way and the media is constantly working for a landslide, but it's still interesting to see the desperate spin (especially after a year or more of the smart set insisting all Republicans needed to run on was gas prices and inflation):- Knots Landing
Probably executive pockets. Dallas always looked oddly cheap. Lotus Point is the high point of Knots for me. When it's gone I mourn it more than I mourned a number of actual characters.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I do hate Roger and Faith, very proudly and loudly, all day long, but I adored Randall Edwards as Delia. I absolutely treasured her. I said it in the thread many times, but I may as well say it again. So if you want some positivity, there it is. Santa Barbara and AW are both terrific threads full of fans passionate about the shows. I just don't see it any other way. Sorry to those who do.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

Adam has left the boards a few times because he doesn't like the way people talk about the show. That's his choice and I think we can all respect that choice. I've certainly left and come back to boards. I will say on the discussion about the destroyed episodes that everyone involved was respectful and at most said they questioned whether the material was actually gone. There were no attacks or passive-aggressive discourse. It was a perfectly fine discussion. If we are getting to a point where we shouldn't even have a discussion, there's no reason for a message board to exist.- Knots Landing

The most realistic part of Gary's arc is- Queen Elizabeth II
I've seen a lot of negativity toward Charles and William even from non-Americans (even though the press tries and tries to pump some long-deflated life back into William and Kate as a beloved national couple), but I don't think that will affect the monarchy at present with the current Tory government (I imagine that is also why Charles is linking so closely to the PM, even planning a tour with her, in spite of his own liberal views). I think it may be more of a factor in a few years than it is now.- Knots Landing
I did not see Mack as celebrating a win - he's absolutely shattered and is trying to cling to any shreds of sanity as he cradles the wife he may have just killed. The Val/Gary/Abby moment is to me not about who Gary loves more - that choice would have been true if he'd had to choose directly between them in perilous moments. He'd already saved Val. If he'd had to choose he likely would have chosen Val. The moment is to remind us that Val and Gary will never have a simple reunion. Abby is still there, and Gary still loves her. If I had to go further I'd say the moment is also exposing the core of both relationships - Val is subjected to trials outside of her control, trials mostly just brought on by the toxicity that comes naturally to the Ewing lifestyle, while Abby is trapped in a prison of her own making. Gary can never free Abby from that prison.- Queen Elizabeth II
The Queen was a figurehead, for good or ill, so people will see her as the representation of what they want the UK to be or they will see her as a source of its evil. This is especially prevalent in a world of conspiracy theories and idiots who want to seem clever on social media (I saw someone insisting not blaming her for problems is the same as not blaming Obama, which tells you where most of these people are operating from and also how stupid they are). In spite of her failings, especially her enabling of Andrew, I have a lot of respect for the Queen, what she sacrificed over her life, and how she tried her best to keep her country from fraying at the seams. The last few years have taught me to have no respect for most of the rest of her family, or the backstabbers and plotters working in the palace who have also done so much harm. I wish the monarchy could end with the Queen, and for me, it has. I also have no respect for most of those who claim to support the Queen, as they often just use her name and legacy to feel justified in throwing out racist, hysterical screeds and rants. They are scum and many of them need a wellness check; for whatever her views, she likely would have said the same.- The Media/Journalism Thread
I wouldn't be surprised, but this is the person who dragged out a sham story about a family not being able to afford milk anymore to try to drag Biden's numbers down, and just like this time, got extremely defensive when called out. The people who think she is lashing out over Afghanistan may have a point too. She's nothing special as an oncamera presence (she's actually incredibly awkward to watch), and as Megyn Kelly showed, even being a generic blonde fantasy figure for a subset of pervs is not enough to keep you in the spotlight. She can keep angling for that Faux News job all she wants, she isn't going to get it. Speaking of pieces of [!@#$%^&*] who have never offered anything of value:- Neighbours: Discussion Thread
