  4. Before being cast on ATWT, Kelley Menighan-Hensley auditioned to play AMC's Gloria and OLTL's Sarah.
  5. It seems like this time must have been a huge transition, in terms of tone and cast. I wonder how it was actually watching day to day. Overall they pulled it off; too bad Sean and Tiffany were casualties. I guess in the long run Labine/Riche did them a favor, as Guza likely would have spit on their graves...
  6. March 1993 Digest. Weird seeing Emma Samms in this as she was about to leave the show.

  8. I just read that Lori Saunders, who was the "dumb" sister on Petticoat Junction (Bobbie Jo), played Nurse Cynthia in 1976, who had designs on Snapper. She was quickly recast with Heather Lowe, who also seemed to have little success in the role. Those who were watching back then - what did you think of Saunders? Did you think the character had any potential?
  9. I wonder if they would have had Reese leave and Cruz would have been with Jodie, father to BJ, and stepfather to the son (blanking on his name). What did you think of him? I've only seen a bit of him (Eric Close), in the BJ story clips. He seems OK. I've heard people at TWOP say that John Beck also had chemsitry with no one. I wonder if it's just because there was so much upheaval at that point. I've never "gotten" Terri Garber - she was weak on Dynasty, and I wasn't a huge fan of her ATWT character, although I guess we weren't supposed to. I've never seen her work as Suzanne. I mostly wonder if she had that long curly red hair which Marcy Walker had the wig for - wasn't that Suzanne? Every time I've seen Garber she had short-ish hair.
  10. When she left she said it was because they did nothing with her. If they had tried, I wonder if she would have stayed. I guess they would have used her in the RJ story but that was never about Sheila. As for Malone and history, I think he did genuinely care about some of the show's history. Dorian/Viki, for instance. He used Wanda until Marilyn Chris left. He still used Larry, whereas JFP or whoever dumped the man by the roadside. Unfortunately there is a time when rewriting history in the past damages the show in the future - and I think in the long run Todd and the Victor rewrites effectively killed the show.
  11. I think she was at first, but once she was pregnant with Nora I think she became more vulnerable and softer. I feel like once Carly returned they quickly put her into the same patterns and same stories so many times, they did very convoluted stories (like the baby money), and they used her more to prop their favorites, like Julia, Craig, or, later on, Katie. The first time around, they seemed to realize she was better than being a Rosanna foil. Of course it's easy to say this because she left for a while - if she'd come back after giving birth they may have had her stalking Pilar or something. Watching these 1996 episodes, they still aren't good, but soaps have declined so much since then, they don't anger me as much as they would have at the time. At that time I was still longing for some ATWT which wasn't going to come back. I liked seeing Susan and Cal having real talks and having strong material, even with the cliched paralysis story. Patrick Tovatt rarely got a chance to act on the show. I liked seeing Lisa having fun with Zoe and Sarah, although this was quickly ruined by Zoe's shrieking and just crap which went on too long. I think Zoe was, at that time, probably the most unpopular new character ever on ATWT. I did laugh at the line about "be a big movie star like Elle McPherson." When was Elle McPherson a movie star? I never realized that they had a scene with Mark and Lily which tidied up their past relationship, which had been dropped abruptly. I heard comments that JoAnna Rhinehart was given little to do as Jessica because she couldn't act. She actually seems fine here, in the only actual story she had during her tenure. The problem is that this behavior is weak and is not in character for Jessica. They sacrificed her character. I think the "Quinlan and Switzer" crime story was a good change of pace for Tom and Margo, but I don't think it was suited for the actors, especially Scott Holmes. In dramatic situations he just starts shouting. Nice to see that ATWT still remembered John and Margo were father and daughter. In later years they seemed to go for long periods of time without speaking.
