EastEnders: Discussion Thread
That's a shame. I think Mandy had a lot of potential. Nicola Stapleton is so underrated.

I'm still getting over her "unzip" comments. So did anyone watch Sarah Palin on The Today Show? How desperate were NBC to ask her? It's not like Katie Couric is some morning powerhouse - she left the Today Show and their ratings had no big drop. They make themselves look bad. As for Palin, I thought she hated the "lamestream" media.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
This must be one of the most questionable introductions ever for a soap couple. Hayley's soulmate was supposed to be Jake, a man she first met when she thought he had raped her? I know they had a few friendlier scenes before the rape but it was still their first story. This is probably more common in soaps than I care to remember. Anyway, the scene where Julia finds Hayley is just devastating to watch. Sometimes I mostly see NLG for the neurotic tics in her characters but sometimes her work just hits you so much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhqP2QWwLLw

I was reading an August 1989 SOD column which talked a little about what fans had been writing in to the magazine. They included: - fans wanted Justin, Beth, and Mike back on the show (I wonder if the fans were happy with the later handling of those two returns...) - fans felt that Josh was not a good enough or strong enough man for Reva, as Kyle Sampson was - fans wanted Roger to stay on, and reunite with Holly - fans were tired of young characters like Rose being killed, and even worse, their love interests moving on to other beds too fast- Y&R: Old Articles

Very good chem between Terry Lester and Barbara Crampton here. Crampton seems so confident in this role, which she lacked in some of her later soap work. I wish they hadn't made Jessica so cutesy. I know we were supposed to love her, as this was the era when hostility towards those with AIDS was probably at a high, and she also had to be sweet if she was Cricket's mother, but she's so sweet that it just isn't believable to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSfI1sCLhto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Msqfo-5A4&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgDgMZ8RZAM&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A6Sz8sw4Zk&feature=channel- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

Kirk and Iva were great in these episodes (and the best part of Kirk as a character, especially since he spent his time repeatedly saying, "that girl in South Dakota," like she was the poor cousin of the girl from Epinima).- The Politics Thread
It looks like the "liberal" media is starting more puff pieces now that Romney has definitely locked up the nomination. Here's one on Ann Romney. She is a "rock star," and the not-so-subtle implication is that while Michelle Obama had to change herself in order to win support, Ann Romney is just naturally awesome. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0412/74718.html I do respect what she's had to go through, with her health, but I find it very confusing that this "rock star" profile did not mention comments like this: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/03/ann-romney-dont-consider-myself-wealthy.html Or, when talking about how she is some touchstone to true believers, there is no mention of her past donation to Planned Parenthood. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/ann-romneys-planned-parenthood-donation/ I'm not sure exactly how you get a new Camelot out of this, but I guess we're going to get it anyway.- Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread

I"m not sure if these have been mentioned or not, but a few weeks ago a few very rare clips of Tammy Taylor (Hope) on DAYS were uploaded. She reminds me of Tanya Crowe, and of one of the girls on the first year of Facts of Life. These are very good scenes - the last one is a good nuanced performance from Susan Hayes (too much makeup though). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w46HOsPPFU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbIiC1hAe1M&feature=channel- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The first clip has a fun, silly little scene where Jessica defends Kirk because he's "cute" and a baffled Tom and Hal question whether or not he's cute. You don't see that too often with these characters - I guess it was due to the strike. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BOWMLzADME&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trJVnbGftMY&feature=channel- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Yes, it was In that 1988 episode, they talk about HB being gone. Was this just some vacation? Larry Gates wasn't actually gone? How long did they last with writing Mindy as being part of Lewis Oil? I can't see her in that role. It's interesting how they write Alan with such layers here - he wants to get back in business but doesn't want to hurt Alex or Phillip. Too bad that nuance did not last. This must have been one of Pilon's first episodes as Alan.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
