I think people are kind of over live episodes. I guess this is about what you could expect for Emmerdale. They were on the road to stronger ratings a few years ago but sort of threw that away with Viv's and Terry's shameful exits and the Jackson story, among others. I feel like Emmerdale and Corrie are lucky they haven't lost millions of viewers the last few years.

How long were the Costellos around? Why was Chrissy sectioned? Was their daughter a self-harmer? I kind of like the initial idea (rich family losing everything) but wow that got very dark. It's too bad.

I think you could have told a story about Mike actually loving Holly, while Ed was mostly just protective of her. Seeing Holly torn between her neuroses (which seemed to make up much of her relationship with Ed) and taking a chance on a new love that would make her grow and change would have been interesting.

I was also imagining the reaction if Michelle Obama's brother said he wanted to punch someone who trashed her. I doubt it would be the same positive reaction this Romney son (is this the one who asked to see Obama's school grades?) is getting. The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It's just easier this way for everyone. I don't think Erica could ever love Adam, but I think they could have done more with Adam's feelings for her in some later years. Like during the babynapping story. A Liza/Adam/Erica triangle of sorts (with Erica mostly just looking for a way out, not falling for Adam) would have interested me more than the baby hell Liza was put in.

So is Dan gone? I doubt she'll be getting together with Cameron. I wonder if she may actually be alone for a while.

If they needed to go there I would have done it based on his behavior toward his family, mroeso than the sudden violent obsession with Chas. The whole story of Carl was that he was so screwed up and weak he inadvertently caused harm. The end didn't seem like him.

Oh...this makes more sense now. I sort of wish they'd tried Adam/Erica again after she broke up with Dimitri for good. He even could have gotten involved in the baby lies, hoping for another chance to be a good father.

I don't like it. It's nice to see her with Hayley. This seems a little like a backburner period for Erica but she still fits in to the canvas. Was this before the story where Adam revealed to Erica that they were still married? I ask because he's falling in love with her again.

What a waste. No one who fills out a pair of jeans that way should ever be killed off. One of the hottest men ever in soaps. What an awful way to end Chas/Carl. I don't see where she can go now.

Nell was Frank's partner when he first joined the force. She was on for about a year, or less. There were hints of Eleni being jealous and of a possible future triangle, but when Laibson left as producer that was dropped. I think she just vanished. In their little "fans ask the producers/writers" section in fall 1994, fans even asked JFP why they couldn't do Mike/Tangie. Clearly this was something people enjoyed. This time on GL was often about making fans like things (see - pushing Alan-Michael/Lucy), not doing what fans wanted. I think he went out with Mindy a few times too.

I didn't like him at first, as I thought he was a little smug, but I did grow to care about him. He worked very well with Marcy Walker, and fans liked the pairing. JFP never let it happen because she was trying to push Tangie with bigger characters. Remember Nell Cleary?

I wonder if O'Connor would have improved the show. I know they won several awards the year they went off, but were those for stories before he took over? It's sad how little is around. Regarding the bit about Tonya Pinkins wishing she had been paired with Jack, while I get that Jack was a flashier and more popular character than Tom, no one (aside from Brooke, who was far more established on the canvas than Livia or even Jack) who was paired with him ever got out of Erica's shadow. Most of the characters were lucky to get past the one year mark.

Pete took a lot of breaks... So how many did Marquess fire? Did he fire the woman who played Nikki? The "edgy" British soaps (ie, not the main three) always seemed to want to tell incest stories, even though they rarely work out well. I don't think Crossroads ever did either, although that would have sort of explained Benny... I think it was a woman and her gay friend's boyfriend, the guy was a cop or something. I thought it was Sean but have never actually seen any of this so I can't say. How long was Sadie around? That plastic surgery and stroke story sounds very grim.

Whenever I think of Romney and Pell grants I think of his telling the student who asked about being able to pay for college that he should just get the money from his parents. I can't compare this to 2008, because Palin was obviously unqualified and seen as reckless (Ryan probably isn't), and McCain was older and in worse health than Romney. The financial crash and McCain's awful handling, the residue of the Bush years, etc. It's very different now.

I think it's probably 50/50. Many wrote him off after the disastrous summer and early fall he had but he was still there. There's still too much room for debate spin and voter suppression.
