Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
I have a feeling this was all Kirkwood. The "McDean" fans will be very upset, as they got their happy ending. I was not a fan of that relationship, as it quickly destroyed both characters and suffered from poor writing and awkward performances, but I can see why their fans will be upset. John Paul lost any purpose as a character over a year before he left. James Sutton had so much personality and spark early on which went away and never came back (not even when he was on Emmerdale). Will John Paul get punched by Brendan? Or raped by him? Maybe both? I can't wait to find out. Even better, how quickly will viewers hate John Paul for being a threat to Brendan and "sassy Ste"?

Doctor Who
The parts that got me were the photo of Amy and Rory with the baby, and then the look on Brian's face when he realizes the man in front of him is his grandson. In some ways I think this was actually better not being filmed, as the storyboards and Darvill's voiceover are very moving. I'm also glad we got some closure for Rory and his story, which we didn't get in the episode. The River issue is still sort of unresolved but other than that I feel like we can say goodbye now, which I needed to do.

Family Affairs
I don't see anything very "hunky" about that mechanic. Sara's stories sound very confusing, especially with her mother's boyfriend. How long was she around? It sounds like she was around much longer than Arlo.

That's why I think not having Jeff, or Bobby, around more often was a waste, to contrast Tad with the others who were raised by Joe. I'm not saying one of those awful stories about how being adopted means you still aren't a "real" part of the family, but just to reinforce that Tad had a lot of demons compared to apple pie and picket fences. Tad as the main representative of the Martin family, even as he listened to a man choking on his own vomit - I don't think it worked.

Those types of characters became "boring" in the eyes of soap and network people. So someone's idea of tentpole became Tad, who was far too damaged to ever fill that role.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
When I first started watching GL, I had no idea characters like Holly and Roger were so unique to the show. I loved them, and their relationships with the people around them (like Blake, Ross, Alex, Gilly, Ed, among many others) were not something that could not be matched elsewhere. I am so grateful to have had that day-to-day experience, for years, of seeing Holly and her neurotic, darkly witty relationships, seeing her go to work, go home, drink, cry, laugh. We got everything. And I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I don't think Edmund replaced Tom - they were very different characters, and their stories were usually very different. If there was a time Tom would have been replaced it would have been in the 80s. I think he just fell victim to ageism.

I don't think Vinnie would have fallen for her again, as he would have known her.

Doctor Who
I've seen some comments about Amy's parents, but I wonder if they're still alive in the ten years of these adventures. I can't remember if they were mentioned. I know they were at her wedding.

Doctor Who
I'm hoping they might have one last scene with Rory and his father, although more likely it will just be a note. The way it read at first I thought he was going to be taken back with them, but that doesn't seem likely. This is fantastic (and has nothing to do with the above). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJMVxZ8pGzA&list=FLNEnwk1pvnNWCT3Fn9r49Eg&feature=mh_lolz

Yeah, that's why I realized how stupid it was. I think the last political story they had was Edmund's Senate race, which didn't get into politics. But since AMC always went back to somewhat of a progressive, heart-and-home mixture, I wouldn't want to believe their world would have to make some type of choice like Obama v Romney.

I just read that again and realized how absurd it sounds. If that doesn't tell you how low my faith in politicians has become, nothing will. Anyway, I think Tom's main priority always would have been the poor and helping suffering people, above politics. I think he and Brooke probably stayed close friends, offcamera. It never made sense to me that they didn't have her say he was helping to run her shelter, even if we didn't see him. Then again I'm not sure how long she even had the shelter.

I don't like to think that politics in soap world are anything like ours. I'd like to think they have better people.

Supernatural: Discussion Thread
I haven't watched Supernatural in many years. I heard people talking about while looking at Who stuff on tumblr and then ended up looking at clips from last night, where Dean is telling someone (Castiel, apparently) he prayed to him every night and he needs him, and Castiel looks back with one of the most blatant and sad "I am madly in love with you" faces I have ever seen, and the third guy awkwardly stands around wondering how to get out of the gay. Sometimes I feel like more and more shows revolve around angst from shippers. The only way that could have gone any further was if they'd made out.

Yes, he has. I used to see photos of it in soap magazines in the 90s. I'm glad it's still going on, and that some of the OLTL people showed up too.

Were any lesbians out there jealous that gay men always got so much hate group focus for dying young? If so, worry no more - the new meme is that lesbians are dying in their 60s, and if they were straight, they'd live many more years. And Sally Ride is dragged into this just for the hell of it. http://gay.americablog.com/2012/10/religious-right-attacks-astronaut-sally-ride-for-being-a-lesbian.html

The Politics Thread
I don't get this. Most campaigns aren't about how good you are, but how bad the other person is. Romney's only campaign has been making sure people hate Obama enough to support him. He has no plans of his own. If he does, he changes them around at random. The heart and soul of the GOP put abortion above just about anything else. Once Romney's in office he's going to be working for them, hardcore, because he will be terrified of a primary fight in 2016.
