I forgot Joel existed. I saw his flat ass in Hollyoaks Later, and that's about it in the memory bank.

The Politics Thread
I will be surprised it it's not by lunchtime. Everyone said he was going to go to the middle when he won the primaries, and he didn't. There was an obvious reason for that (he is eternally proving himself to the far right). The whole thing is odd. His ideology always confuses me anyway, besides the ideology of money. Since reading about some of his views on abortion and gay rights before entering politics, I've always assumed he is a social conservative who pretended to be a moderate to get elected, and then somehow became a social conservative pretending to be a moderate pretending to be a social conservative.

This photo seems so modern every time I look at it, which is odd, since Erika usually reminds me more of a very refined, stately era, like she should be on Downton Abbey (and then I'd actually watch Downton Abbey).

Wow. I can't believe Romney is actually saying this. He must be very confident. I guess he knows the social conservatives will see this as a shell game and he's going to still go all out for them if he's elected. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57529274/romney-abortion-not-on-my-agenda/

Some were hoping for Kath Beedles but apparently she said she turned down the offer to take over Corrie and is leaving soaps entirely.

So did I. I don't want to speak ill of the dead but I will always blame Gavin Blythe for a lot of this.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I think the producer, Stuart Blackburn, somehow became obsessed with the idea of Marlon and Laurel (I have no idea why, as they barely interacted for years) and it took prominence over anything else. It never made any sense for Laurel's character, and destroyed the most consistent thing about Laurel - her love for Ashley.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
It's funny that I didn't include Michelle on my list, even though I hate her. Apparently others feel the same way. As annoying as she is and as annoying as Kym Marsh is, I think she still has enough screen presence to work out on the show, if they just knew what the hell to do with her.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
She had a fling with Marlon and was going to run off until she realized she couldn't take the kids. Then the show had a very ugly, poisonous story about Ashley abusing his father, in order to make viewers side with Laurel. She froze him out of the kids' lives. She then hooked up with Marlon, and began pushing him to sue for custody of his son with Rhona.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I'd keep Leanne just for Jane Danson. The custody story was designed to make people love Carla and Peter. If that's done, she might shine again. I almost put Eileen on my list because they've completely marginalized her in recent years and her relationship with Jason has started to greatly annoy me, but I think she still works as a sarcastic supporting character. They just need to stop giving her miserable storylines that involve her making sour cow faces.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I thought most of them were bankrupt financially before the show started. I don't disagree on anything else

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I don't think she should stay because she has fans, I just mean after all the time they wasted on her and since she did have a somewhat positive reception, I would get rid of others first and bring new people in. Then I'd probably write her out. I'd mostly wait to move Val and Eric on to other stories believably.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I would miss Kevin and Sally, although after the last few years and Collinson's obvious dislike for them I would not be surprised to see them go. My issue with Tracy is her murdering someone in cold blood and this being ignored, or used for "comedy." This is highly dubious writing, and has made Deirdre look pathetic beyond belief, because she just enables it. I like Lloyd, but mostly as a supporting character. I would get rid of the insta-daughter and ex but since they just started they might prove me wrong. I like Izzy, but they have no idea how to write for her. Collinson had some strong dislike for Gary, IMO, and it showed. I think he will be gone soon enough, which is a shame. Which characters on my list did you like? Maybe you can change my mind about them.

Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
Another firing list. All the students bar three or four who are closely related to core families. They are all disposable and intensive efforts to make viewers love them doesn't seem to have made any difference. Ste - Sorry but I don't care how "sassy" it is to pine for getting a cracked rib. This character ceased to exist once they just decided to give him Kieron Richardson's personality and have Ste there to swoon over Brendan. Have Brendan beat him to death, and play this throughout: Theresa - written into a corner a long time ago Carmel - mostly around because she is a McQueen Mercedes - too much to come back from Cheryl - a bad drag queen who has zero purpose outside of enabling her rubber faced brother Brendan - Emmett is likely leaving soon anyway, to become a global superstar, but I'll still include him Texas - is she still a thing? Can she read her lines yet? Will - shouty fake nerd loser Ally - pointless Diane - have her go teach seminars on agoraphobia and having invisible children. Tom - it's just time Doug - I just want anything that went near Ste or Brendan off of the show, and the character will always be a hate figure to most viewers anyway, because he dared to touch Sassy Ste And please don't bring hammy Silas back, ever.

I don't even know anything about the mother, but I would keep Amy for now because they've built too much around her and some people seem to like her.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
People I would write out: Laurel - NOTHING and NO ONE represent the stench of death the way Laurel Potts now does. She cannot stay on this show if it wants to survive. Marlon - Why bother explaining this? They have always just barely managed to stop from going too far with the damage this character does to himself and to the show. The last year was too far. Declan - should have left when the Wyldes did. Megan - stunt casting and nothing more. Would anyone notice she was gone? Robbie - send him back to face Gollum, change the locks, don't let him back in Andy - I'm all for the Sugdens, but it's time to bring back or recast Robert, or bring in some cousins. This character has been going nowhere for years and years, and probably should have gone after the wife-beating story. The only interesting thing about him is to see if he's going to burst out of his underpants, and can't we just bring back Nathan Wylde back for the same purpose?? Charity - Has she had one good story since he return? Sometimes you can't go back. I also can't take that hair anymore. Debbie - More straw on a stick. I loved Debbie before Gavin Blythe ruined the show, but that doesn't mean things will get better. Looking back, I am starting to wonder if I only loved her because of Jasmine. So let's start a petition to get Charley Webb on Doctor Who with Jenna Louise Coleman. Debbie has reached her limit. Adam - can't act, not hot enough to justify staying around for that reason, zero interesting relationships with anyone on the show. Alex - dead space skinhead Spencers not named Dan - I don't care! I just don't care! I don't even watch the real Shameless now, much less a copy. The only one I want to keep is Dan, who is an idiot but is the perfect type for the kind-hearted-sometimes-jerky-supporting-player-and-cafe-owner, a role now held by... Bob - Not worth keeping without Viv. Frankly, he makes me feel sad. Brenda - pointless and when she is written for she's annoying. Jai - dead end, my friend. I don't think he is a good actor but in the right role, like he had on Corrie, it can work. The role has never fit the actor and I struggle to remember a good story Jai was involved in. I think Jimmy and Nicola were OK at first, and his relationship with Carl is fun with the proper writing. The writing just sucks. Jimmy's presence is the only thing stopping Carl from going way too far over the cliff. I would have listed Cameron but I have a feeling he's gone soon anyway.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Now that Emmerdale will be rewarded with a producer who might actually be competent, it's time for my suggestions on who should be written out. I'd love to see your suggestions too. First of all, I really, really feel like Chas should be on this list, after the last few years. But I just can't do it Sorry.

The Politics Thread
For the same reason that you deny the media doesn't have an interest in supporting Romney. The first 2004 one, maybe. The last one, all the focus was on the evils of Kerry bringing up Mary Cheney. Even Anderson Cooper, who is probably seen as some type of liberal by the right, went on about it.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I liked Mary but I just don't see the point now. She had a decent run, a few years, and they don't seem to have a role for her now. When Collinson drained the heart out of the show and made it so vile, Norris was a big casualty. I think the character has lost most of the occasional warmth which made him less unlikeable. I also don't think Rita or Emily need him anymore, and they were the main reasons he was on the show. The list would have been even longer but there are some deadwood supporting/comedy characters I think still fit in (Kirk, Dev).

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Since they are getting a new producer, it's time to dust off lists of which characters should go. My list: Sean - just pointless and awful. If you need a weak token then whip up another one. He actively kills scenes. Paul - this character represents a hideous and offensive storyline and I don't believe viewers will ever forget or forgive. Sunita - ruined, pointless Karl - the failed Nick Cotton impersonator has always been worthless Stella - pointless, sticks out like a sore thumb Gloria - only interesting thing about her is whether she had a bad facelift Fiz - time to say goodbye. She is OK as a supporting character, but Corrie has a million of those. Carla's dumpy brother with the bad hair - go away. Middle-aged Ryan - go away. Sophie - pointless, write out until necessary for storyline Chesney - no longer needed Katy - never needed Tracy - an albatross Steve - I don't see anything left for this character. He's just plain tired. Mary - this character worked mostly in small doses, for comedy, but I think she has reached the end. Norris - he just seems unpleasant and superfluous Peter - say goodbye and kiss my ass on the way out. This character needs a VERY LONG BREAK. Nick - looks as old as his grandfather, with a tenth of the charisma. Pointless. David - write him out until he has a story beyond making stupid faces at people Tina - completely ruined as a viable character, nasty, drags down any scene she appears in. Owen - a sleeping pill with a bad dye job. Forever and always pointless. Brian - awful. A destitute man's Derek Wilton, and I was not a huge Derek fan in the first place.

You should read this STELLA WEEK thread. Some of it cracks me up, especially the last page, where Stella's episodes will revolve around being terrified by Blackburn's arrival, and one about how Stella Week will now clash with Maureldale. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1670072&page=38
