  2. The British soaps also have the sexiest categories, although most of the winners are rarely sexy.
  3. I'm somewhat surprised River will be back...I wonder if this will be the last time. If she meets Clara, and Clara is Oswin (I'm hoping she's not, and is just a relative), the Doctor will be in some sort of meta angst hell, since he first met both when they died. If you haven't seen it yet you should check out the last DWM companion to the Sarah Jane Adventures. They go into some details about the stories that were never told, have an unpublished interview with Lis Sladen from 1993, and talk a little about story ideas that were considered when they knew she was sick but hoped she might be able to do a voiceover or a short appearance (one they had decided on was an animated special, set in DC, with Alan and Maria Jackson appearing). Children in Need will have a Who prequel this year. http://www.sfx.co.uk/2012/10/27/doctor-who-christmas-special-prequel-for-children-in-need/
  4. Do you agree with the results? It must have been a little unsettling for the people there (was this an actual ceremony?) if so many awards were for canceled shows. Writing on the wall. I'm surprised they didn't have these in earlier years.
  5. I'd almost forgotten about this. Log Cabin Republicans endorsed Romney probably only because they thought he might win and they'd be even more ostracized if they didn't. If nothing else this might have brought back reports of his very ugly behavior in 2003 and 2004. http://americablog.com/2012/10/romney-gay-birth-certificates.html Mitt "some are actually having children born to them" Romney. Hell, he should run it in an ad. The true believers would love it.
  6. I always feel like I missed their rivalry, aside from some sparring here and there. It must have been riveting to watch in the 70s, before John became more focused on the Stewarts.
  7. What did you enjoy about her?
  8. They could just use that to pretend they're diverse. They love crazy old men attention whores. Look how popular Trump was with the base for no apparent reason other than saying birth certificate every five minutes.
  9. I'm always more surprised Barbara Boxer has stayed in office. Feinstein seems to encompass the various parts of California more than Boxer, who always reminds me more of politicians from New York, New Jersey, etc. like Schumer. Feinstein is also so very cautious, I guess because California used to be much more middle of the road and because of the Harvey Milk and Moscone shootings.
  10. I think the problem with Paul Ryan is that most of the people out there who adore him are already people who should be supporting Romney anyway. Most of the public has no idea who he is, and while he is charismatic and personable enough, his views are anathema to a wide majority of American voters. Someone probably assumed that if he made his puppy dog eyes wide enough, the public would agree with his desires to abolish Medicare. They don't. He's also a bad fit for Romney because he has basically stuck to the same views throughout his career. Romney has not. He can't even stick to the same view in a day. Everyone loves to bash Joe Biden, but he was a great balance to Obama in public image, and he knows how to form a basic emotional connection with the voter, which is why the crank attacks against him often seem so bizarre (like the attempt to manufacture outrage because he said memories of 9/11 are "bittersweet."). Romney should have picked John Sununu. He says crazy [!@#$%^&*] all the time and just keeps on saying it. He's everybody's not so favorite uncle, and would make Romney seem stable in comparison. He also gets tons of media attention. http://www.businessinsider.com/john-sununu-colin-powell-endorsement-obama-black-african-american-2012-10

  12. I almost forget Paul Ryan is Romney's VP pick until I read little jabs like this. I guess Obama just doesn't care anymore... http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/264161-obama-swipes-at-paul-ryans-ayn-rand-fandom
  13. He should make a few stops with Powell. The few moderate Republicans still around probably have fond memories of him.
  14. I was surprised to see Ellen Degeneres, who does talk about gay rights but who usually isn't overtly political, call him "dangerous." I think that is probably my biggest fear about Romney, is I just think he will do anything. He changes positions two, three times a day. People used to tear Kerry apart for the same reason but Kerry at least just changed his mind once.
  15. It mostly depends on what the definition of "liberal" now is. Is it now liberal to believe that God doesn't want a woman to be raped? If so, then yes, I'm a liberal. That's basically what this has come down to - it's not just some guy saying that a woman should not abort a rape pregnancy (which is bad enough, IMO), he's waxing nostalgic about the whole thing.
  16. I don't think you can put any value in the opinion of a Democratic talking head on any cable show. Mika is Scarborough's Alan Colmes. I have no idea why that man became prominent in the first place, given that his claim to fame is being a backbencher. Reading that article about the Obama DVDs, you have to wonder at how much money is being burnt. If even a tenth of that went toward the economy, we'd be better off. People are apparently paying millions of dollars to ship out DVDs about Obama's mother being a porn actress.
  17. Dark Shadows did have people talk about getting Christmas gifts once, so that's...something, I guess.
  18. That page also has a story about the pathetic Tommy Thompson running 2002-era 9/11 hate ads against Tammy Baldwin. The Senate candidates on the GOP this year have been shockingly inept and offensive on multiple levels. It sucks that most of them might still win.
  19. Unfortunately I think they were taken down. I never did get to finish them. That's one of my favorite soap covers. When I watched (albeit knowing the outcome in advance) it never felt like he truly wanted to be with Kathleen, but I did like the idea of the triangle.
