I don't remember seeing this. Very early Shannon. She is wearing Sierra type clothes there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfVe1Reakbs

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
He was on Hotel Babylon in its death throes. I read that Sharon and Ian apparently don't even acknowledge each other. What's with that? Why did they bring Sharon back? Speaking of death throes, I ended up watching some of the episode where Pat and Yolande fought in the Vic, as Kevin Wicks was about to leave. He got involved with the fight, then his daughter arrived, etc. It's difficult to think of other actors who were so jarringly terrible and wrong in every line the way that Phil Daniels was.

Melrose Place
There's no such thing as fun primetime soaps now. They're all very sour and serious, and full of dull people. Revenge was hyped up as the big return to primetime soaps, yet it's stocked with the dullest people alive. So is the new Dallas.

I was never a huge fan of that big closeup shot of Amanda. I thought it made her look a bit like that woman who played Jan Brady in the Brady Bunch movies.

ANOTHER WORLD 121 Jack questions Grant
Great chapter all around. Everything. The best is the Christy/Frankie conversation, which was very complicated and makes me wonder who Christy is now.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I'd wondered if AMC more successfully hid their social issues under more of the guise of entertainment, or colorful characters (like Phoebe). Since I've never seen either show in that era, I can't say. That scene with Lana and Karen sounds like something very rare for soaps. Do you think this was used to help lead up to Lana's death, or was it kept separate?

I never knew about that. She's had just about nothing but crap roles since China Beach, so that might have opened her eyes a little. One thing I always enjoy about Jeanne Cooper is she speaks her mind without getting crazy and nasty. There's no real middle ground with a lot of soap people now who yell on Twitter.

I always think that photo with his wife looks strangely edited. I'm not sure why.

There's so much they talk about in the 70s which you would never hear broached today. I'm just sorry none of these relationships ever seemed to work out for her. They get so much focus in her 70s interviews, and you can tell they were very important to her.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I miss this Corrie so much. Everything about it. The second part in particular. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXggLfcw8XM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OE39fQihIw

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Geez. I never really saw Philip and Rick that way but the last part of that scene makes me wonder. Strong and complicated male friendships are something which TV was much more comfortable with in the 80s and early 90s, then started backing away from. Today that would be called a "bromance," which gets on my nerves. They're also something Pam Long introduced to GL. I think one of the parts I miss most about GL was when they remembered all the different friendships and the triggers in those friendships. Does anyone know who is playing the nanny in the first part of the clip? Initially I thought it was Alexandra Neil, but she'd just been killed off GL a year earlier.

I never knew Delaney spoke of soaps at all. Her ATWT run was a poor period for the show but I wish I'd seen some of her LOL run. Tomme was a very attractive guy, good build, without showing off the way some soap actors did in that era (not that I'm complaining). There were usually a few photos of him in soap magazines jogging or bicycling.

That's great. I don't know why he isn't on more stuff. I just wish he and Liam from Corrie were playing lovers. I doubt I'd watch, but I'd go to YT.

The Walking Dead: Discussion Thread
Thanks. I wish we'd heard a little from Melissa McBride. I'm glad they all seem to put so much thought into their characters. I don't agree with some of what Laurie said about Andrea or Michonne but at least she does try to give that POV.

Radio Soap Opera Discussion
Thanks. I have a number of these and never post them because I'm never sure if anyone is interested in radio soaps beyond the core one or two (like Right to Happiness). I decided to go ahead and post a few, in case an asteroid hits tomorrow, or whatever. I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Thanks. They layered that look on Audrey Peters. I guess that was "the" look, as Erika Slezak and Gillian Spencer were stuck with that too. I love the raised eyebrow from Ron Tomme.

I guess someone at P&G liked her, in spite of the dud role, since she was on AW a year later as Amy Holloway. I like what I've seen of her on that show but she also didn't work out there.

Her work might have still been in effect in very early 1991 (around the time those three were leaving). Not sure. I remember reading the story fifteen years ago. I never knew Grant Aleksander had confirmed it. Sometimes when I see these older clips I'm reminded of why I liked Michael O'Leary so much. Eventually he just became GL's version of MEK - not a good thing. - Radio Soap Opera Discussion
