  1. They should have done a story where he was a male prostitute to some of the women or something.
  2. Susan hosted SNL in fall 1990, I think.
  3. The New Republic, largely irrelevant since destroying most of their credibility by being heavy cheerleaders for invading Iraq, seems to be on its last legs. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/new-republic-mass-resignations http://www.politico.com/story/2014/12/the-new-republic-moves-to-new-york-city-113343.html?hp=t4_r CNN finally lanced a boil on its ass named Candy Crowley. I guess daring to correct Mitt Romney was the last straw. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/candy-crowley-leaving-cnn
  4. You're right. I can see him there. Too bad GL just pretended Stephen Jackson never existed.
  5. Those Robert/Aaron scenes were much, much hotter than I'd expected. It was also strange to see Danny Miller acting, showing desire and vulnerability, not just scowling. I think where I'm not as upset about lack of buildup as some are is that I don't see this as being about a budding romance or a love story. Robert thinks Aaron is hot. He doesn't want to address this, likely because this is the first time he's really come close to, for lack of a better term, shitting where he eats, and he probably knows Chrissy is someone he can't easily fool and will regret crossing. He tries not to give into his feelings, but he finally does when he feels emasculated and shamed by Chrissy. He needs to know Aaron wants him and is under his thumb (among other body parts). He still backs away, because he still sees what a terrible idea all of this is, until Chrissy apologizes to him. He feels powerful, he's on a high, and he believes he can not only have her, but Aaron too. Not just for sex, but for ego, for control. To be able to break someone who is as much of a psychological mess as Aaron, do whatever you wish with his body and mind, must be a huge turn-on for someone like Robert, who has never, ever felt like anyone wants him, needs him, or is beholden to him. Add in that Aaron is an attractive guy who is probably extremely eager to please (given his own insecurities), and it's a tightrope that makes Robert feel like a man, gets him hard, and keeps him that way, something he'll need to survive in a village full of people he basically despises yet craves the approval of. I hope they go this route and don't turn it into a love story. As much as the image of Aaron literally shoving a ring in Robert's face and running somewhere into a sheep field afterward, and Chas being Robert Sugden's mother-in-law and trying to cook homey dinners at the farm would amuse me, I just can't see that happening.
  6. That's weird. Sorry about that.
  7. Jill's Opal was also very harsh the first year or so. I can't remember when Opal first came back, but Dorothy was on Mama's Family up to late 1989.
  8. Cliff Curtis cast as the male lead on the companion show. http://deadline.com/2014/12/cliff-curtis-cast-the-walking-dead-companion-series-spinoff-1201308108/
  9. Randolph Mantooth left the role in 1989, and Alex was presumed dead. They recast him (I can't remember the actor's name) for about a year or so. They wrote him out with Egypt in 1990 or 1991. Then Mantooth returned in 1993. I think the recast may have been named Robert Dubac. He was a stand-up comedian. I'm not sure what the explanation was for all the different faces (why James Horan had a different face than the guy impersonating Clay, why the recast Alex had a different face, etc.)
  10. Some great work from Linda Cook here, Lisa Peluso looking breathtaking in a fur hat and coat, and part of the closing credits.
  11. I'm surprised he didn't thank Rosie Perez either, given that she made a fool of herself over him. Maybe there's a hierarchy of (alleged) rape apologists. Whoopi certainly has a flair for it.
  12. Some bits from a Terry Kiser TV-movie of 1977 (at one point he's wearing Rickie Lee Jones' signature outfit). I wonder if it was a backdoor pilot. You also get to see him shirtless, for those into that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncAMmb6M9ZI
  13. Thanks. I think if that had come before all the Palin stuff you would have had a stronger point.
  14. It will be interesting to see Dany, as at this time wasn't she still going around freeing cities? Too bad they can't have one of her entourage in there.
  15. It matters to me mostly because of the level of power you are attached to. I don't expect all that much from a comedian, who is often there to disgust people or shock people, especially these days. When you're working for a powerful Congressman in the majority party, then you should keep your mouth shut.
  16. How many Democrats in office made fun of any children or grandchildren?
  17. I vastly prefer this to the studio version (which goes too fast). What charisma and energy Ronnie Spector had.
  18. Does Lola remind anyone else of a young Patsy Palmer (minus Patsy's manic energy in those years, and her hair)?
  19. It's a little annoying, but if everyone on EE who had an annoying voice left, they'd have about 3 characters. I have a feeling Strike just decided to cut his losses. I do wonder about the backstage atmosphere. It rarely seems friendly to me. I'd love to see Sharon in the Vic again. Oh well. I'd love a lot of things. So anyway, apparently Jake Wood is still on Strictly. Good for him. I wonder if they put him in any nice outfits.
  20. It even rhymes. I don't think I've seen Kush. I did see Aleks. Nice to know that Roxy continues to have bad taste. BE, I did think Johnny was OK in the Luca stuff; he was blandly likeable and cute enough there. I liked Luca. It's more his role with Ben that feels way off. It just feels unearned and odd to have him be so, "Oh you can just come out, then it's easy," the way Christian was with Syed, and Stephen Beale. I must say that it doesn't actually feel like the Carters own or operate the Vic. They just seem like people who are crashing while the real owners are away. I get a sentimental feeling every time I see the place, especially the bar itself, but sometimes I think they would be better off just shutting the Vic down. It hasn't been the same in a very long time.
  21. So, thanks to you guys and gals in the thread, I finally broke down and watched a little more material... A few thoughts - I actually was surprised by Harry Reid. He's very believable, charismatic, and makes Ben seem like a real, extremely damaged, unstable person. He also looks very different without his glasses, which works for the character, as Ben wears a mask. I still don't think there's a need for Ben on the show, and the closeting story is lazy and regressive, but he's good casting. - The guy who plays Jay has become very handsome. The show is lucky to have him. - I think the show made some big mistakes with the Carter casting. I don't believe that a couple as incompatible as Mick and Linda would have happy-clappy kids, which is how Johnny and Nancy are written. I don't believe Mick and Linda as a couple. Danny Dyer's speech impediment is very distracting - very distracting. He also has no heft. Kellie Bright reminds me of Anita Dobson, but without her energy. She's a good actress, but she's just draining to watch. The Vic is supposed to be run by someone with panache. The show hasn't been able to get this right since the first few years Peggy was in charge. Instead it feels drab and miserable, and most of all, claustrophobic. - Why is Sharon wearing shoulder pads? - Lee has a nice ass - The guy who plays Lee is more than decent at everyday material, and even at the scenes where he was reacting to Stan's cancer. The big dramatic material was where he showed his weakness, overrelying on "who farted?" faces the likes of which I haven't seen in years. - The show does not have the backbone to tell the stories they want to tell. Points to them for using actual homophobic slurs, but the scene where Lee went "crazy" and "beat" Ben was so lackluster and so timid, especially the part where he supposedly got so nuts that he almost hit Nancy. This made Nancy seem like a drama queen or a liar, which must not have been the intent. - DTC has a certain one-note view of what a gay man should be. Johnny is a less irritating Christian - he's written as the all-knowing gay, with the same overly combed hair and the same tin-eared inability to understand the struggles of coming out. Johnny in general is just forgettable. If he weren't gay, and if people didn't want to !@#$%^&*] Sam Strike, he would have not one fan. I have no idea how they would have written Johnny/Ben if Strike had stayed. They have no chemistry and are incompatible. - Charlie is very bland (Nick's sons seem to have this trait), but Ronnie has been revitalized more than I would have expected after the endless horrors overlaid on her in her last few years. - I liked Annette Badland on Doctor Who, so I was surprised at how distracting she was here. Not terrible, but very actor-ish and overcooked. I can see why, if rumors are true, this character is on the way out. - It's too bad Timothy West had to leave for personal reasons. IMO he's the only one who makes the Carters believable as a family.
  22. Ew. Poor Eric. Ew. Kim Rhodes will be on Supernatural tonight.
  23. That looks very good. I'm especially excited to see Margaery in that type of role, mediating and playing all sides. That's when she's at her best. Poor Peter Dinklage gets so much stick for the last video game he did.
  24. I remember a lot of fans talking about that scenario, especially after Beth kissed Rick on the cheek after he came back from Woodbury.
