  1. I liked him with Susan too, maybe because she wasn't made to be needy or pathetic. By that time he was being written out, but I thought they worked well together. I'm glad they got a happy ending.
  2. A number of my favorite characters, like Alex and Mindy, were ruined for him. He had no real chemistry with most of the people he was paired with. He was smarmy and sanctimonious. I hated the way he preened and posed all the time. I hated the sound of his voice. I hated his pretentiousness (the worst of the soap cliches about journalists), I hated the way he said "Alexandra" and "Melinda" so we'd know he wasn't like everyone else. I hated the way the words came out of his mouth. I hated having to hear "Cambray" a million times, and hear endless backstory about Cambray and New York and his super duper parents Kip and Mary, who sounded like they got their names from a kids' detective book from 1940. I hated that many months of plot were based on the idea that of course Mary couldn't have had him, because she had a photo from the time he was in the womb where she had a flat stomach. The idea of Lujack having a long lost twin should have been far more interesting than it actually was. Without Beverlee, the story was nothing, and it was clear that JFP saw Beverlee as a disposable third wheel plot device, just as she later saw Marj. A shrieking, hysterical mommy from hell.
  3. The media will do handstands. They worshiped his brother and are in love with the idea of a "Bush dynasty." I remember the gushing questions they asked Barbara Bush about a "Bush dynasty" in 2004. He's also, in their mind, a "moderate," which means he doesn't want to lock up anyone who isn't a Republican. I don't think he will get out of a primary. He's also been all over the place on the issues that matter most to the far right. But the media will kill for him, as they did for McCain and Romney. They need their daddy fix no matter what, and the GOP ticks every daddy box they have.
  4. Yeah, I'm very glad to get to see this era too. I'd prefer to see the Dobsons material, as I think it is less dry and dated than Marland's work, it has more heart and feels less laborious (for instance, the repeated conversations about what a changed man Ross is always make me kind of roll my eyes), but I know most of that is gone, so this is good too. I'm glad to get to see more of the whole canvas buildup to the Diane and Joe murders, and as you said, some of the day-to-day of Kelly and Morgan. And more info on weird bits like Vanessa/Ed, and pairings I never knew about, like Mike/Trish. Plus I never knew they were still having Nola scheme to get Kelly at this point. I really wish they hadn't fired Jane Eliot so abruptly, because she barely had the chance to play an actual character. You can tell this Carrie is an artifice. There are also '92 clips still being posted, but I have a lot of bad memories of what JFP did to the show so those are tough for me to want to watch again, especially since most of the clips revolve around Nick, a character I disliked. And I feel like JFP's work has also dated significantly.
  5. They hooked up before, didn't they? I guess he just saw it as an easy lay at the time. I hope they aren't going to have a triangle with Finn, as I know she and Finn kissed.
  6. I never knew that. Wow. And this must have been playing when he had that oily role as the stockbroker on Ryan's Hope. Thanks for more info about Vigard. I wonder if they may have been better off just having Morgan go on a break and helping her shape up.
  7. The people who insist these women only care about fame will still say it if they give the money to charity. They'll still say it if the women do or say anything. To many people in society, the women are always the ones who are in the wrong. They should have spoken up, yet they should have just stayed quiet because they were dirty, stupid whores anyway.
  8. Would you have kept Lara?
  9. How did you feel at the time?
  10. Well I've finally started trying to make (awful looking) gifs. If anyone ever knows the programs to make better quality, longer ones, let me know.
  11. Thanks. Some of the actors look a little tired/sad. I guess it's not a very happy anniversary... Do you think they made the wrong decisions in who to cut?

  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaZn-dgoDXg Morgan's faces at Nola's good girl act amuse me. It's nice that we're seeing characters try to find work and again seeing some of the class differences in Springfield, but Jennifer saying she would have done better with a college education is undercut by her being on her way to being an exec. At least Morgan pointed that out, I guess. It's just how soaps tend to go, especially in the post-Dallas era. Tony and Nola were always so believable as siblings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gs4G73IGws Vanessa is as hilarious as ever. "Another great milestone in history." And she is not too subtle in thirsting over Tony. Alan writing that huge CALL RITA on his notepad is more than a little silly. They really were setting viewers up for the stark changes to come in Carrie - not just her crimes, but her later rudeness and mockery of Amanda in her Carrie 2 persona.
  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrC0EPsNTJE Very clever to have Nola say, "if it's the last thing I do...which it won't be," and then cut to Joe, who is rapidly approaching the last thing he does. I was always confused about whether Gracie was around when Nola was chasing Kelly. I guess now we know she wasn't. I enjoyed that Jackie/Alan scene. Alan is so placid at this time, it's good to see some fire in him again. Poor Trish saying Billy won't want to hear her advice. Of course Andy is a big reason, but general sexism was another.
  15. Yet another example of how Rolling Stone hurt so many people with their shock value "journalism."

  17. 1927 Christmas Disney film discovered. Only a bit of it has been available until now. This stars Oswald the Rabbit, Mickey's predecessor. http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/movies/2014/12/12/disneys_longlost_first_christmas_film_turns_up_near_the_arctic_circle.html
  18. This is the SOD recap for the two August 1981 episodes. http://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/40180-oltl-tribute-thread/page-60#entry1054836 If anyone knows any more about Louise (the testing woman Brad slept with), like who played her, please let us know.
  19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jda4mQTkliY&list=UU1SN29flGTjicPnAzxJM28A The start of the setup for Mart's exit as Ed. Anna Stuart's first day as Vanessa. Beyond that the most memorable part is Diane's meltdown over Alan...which will just get worse and worse in her last few weeks on the planet. The Kelly/Morgan/Kelly's father scenes are good too. I'm so confused with Quint's backstory. Later on they acted like Mrs. Renfield had been his mother most of his life, didn't they?
  20. I'm not sure. I was wondering about that too.

  22. It's poor quality, but Anna Stuart's first appearance as Vanessa Chamberlain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGwDTGAqdq0
  23. A bemused Michelle Gomez reads a history of The Master. https://www.doctorwhocountdowntochristmas.com/?modal=14
  24. Promo at about 49 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho86TZRddg8&list=UUcAEIn1m_ey-ivD6YAI-tnw
  25. This happened a fair amount in soaps. Roya Megnot did the same for Lisa Peluso on Loving.
