  1. Newsom doesn't seem to have ever actually done much or stood for much. He did fight for gay marriage, but otherwise I don't think I've heard him on any fronts besides the affair scandal.
  2. Adam. Chas is Chastity. She's Cain's sister. To me she's never been the same without her hot piece of ass ex, Carl King (who was murdered a few years ago...), but I'll always have a soft spot for her. She let Aaron's father take him at a young age because she thought he could give Aaron a good life. He did, for a while, but Aaron went off the rails when his father's new wife got pregnant. He got into drugs and got violent. Then he came back on the show as Danny Miller (circa late 2008). Jack and Pat Sugden had Robert in 1986. A few months later, Pat died in a car accident. Several years later, Jack met and married Sarah Sugden. They had Victoria in 1993, around the time of the plane crash that changed the village (and the show) forever. A few years later, Jack and Sarah adopted Andy, a friend of Robert's from school, who was being abused by his father. Not too long after this, Jack began having an affair with his ex-stepniece, Rachel. Robert wanted to leave with Sarah, but the courts said he had to stay with Jack because Jack was his biological parent. A few years after this, while Sarah was living on the farm with Jack, Robert, Victoria, and Andy, Andy decided to set the barn on fire to help Jack with his debts. He didn't realize Sarah and her secret boyfriend were in the barn. Sarah was killed. When Robert learned the truth, and that Jack was going to keep quiet so that Andy wouldn't get into trouble, he was devastated by his father protecting Sarah's murderer above everyone else. He left the village to stay with his grandmother and get recast. He returned played by the wonderful Karl Davies (you may remember him as the cousin Jaime murdered on GoT). He and Andy and Katie had the usual modern soap teen adventures (they accidentally killed one of their teachers...), and Robert dated Nicola and Donna. His hatred for Andy flared up again when he began an affair with Katie while she was engaged to Andy. I'm pretty sure they fucked while she was wearing her wedding dress, but it's been a while, so I can't remember. He did feel some guilt, so after the wedding, when they were going to run off, he left a note. This turned out to be a terrible idea, as Andy read the note before they left. He got drunk and planned to shoot Robert. Being Andy, he accidentally shot Jack instead. Robert blamed himself. He and Katie stayed together for a while, but he began sleeping with her boss, Sadie King (Patsy Kensit). Andy found out and told Katie, who split town. Robert and the Kings had Andy beaten up, and Robert seduced Debbie, Andy's underaged fling who'd recently had his baby (Sarah). He was going to leave town with Debbie and baby mostly to spite Andy. This ended horribly, as he and Andy had a dangerous joyride that led to the death of the baby brother of the King family, Max. Jack blamed Robert and disowned him. Robert left town in shame, and hadn't been seen since a few months ago, minus a brief return to watch Jack's funeral from afar. I'm very protective of Robert. He's one of my favorite soap characters of all time. If the show does wrong by him this time around my reaction will not be pretty. And the fans who hate Robert because he's "mean" or wants to hurt "nice" people are too precious and saintly to be watching anything but CBeebies. And the fans who think Ryan Hawley is "ugly" are, frankly, blind, and can kiss my ass.
  3. It's a running joke with some that Nene pronounces "bridesmaids" as "bridemaids."
  4. http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2015/01/aia-dallas-to-screen-lost-1967-film-about-the-future-of-the-city-the-walls-are-rising.html/ http://www.punemirror.in/entertainment/bollywood/Scrap-dealer-finds-lost-Guru-Dutt-film/articleshow/45763619.cms
  5. Thanks. I don't even know what to say. If you want to show support and think Cosby has been wrongly accused - I don't agree, but it's your money, do with it what you wish. But standing and applauding when he jokes about raping women? Just disgusting. This has brought out the worst of many people.
  6. I'm not sure what to say if hundreds (?) of people gave a standing ovation for a rape joke. What part of Canada was this anyway?
  7. The umpteenth discussion of Jennifer Aniston's love life apparently revealed that her great love, the man she thinks sent Justin Theoroux to her, is Daniel McDonald, the late actor who was so good in the throwaway role of Michael Delaney's doctor boyfriend Brad. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2902775/Jennifer-Aniston-dated-Tony-nominated-actor-Daniel-McDonald-four-years-landed-role-Friends.html
  8. I'm still in February, as I'm watching with my mother, and Ruth just terrifies me. She is totally incapable of being a parent and she and her husband are a terrible match - he never supports her, he berates her in public, and he seems reluctant to even hold her. I guess it's a good thing this story was taking place in a more restrained writing era. Today they'd have her stealing babies and shooting people.
  9. She was in the minority party for 12 years already (95-06), so I can't blame her if that's the case.
  10. Barbara Boxer is, after months of speculation to such, retiring. This will cause a huge power struggle in CA politics. I hope it doesn't just go to someone like Gavin Newsom. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/01/barbara-boxer-retires-114076.html?hp=t1_r I'm glad she stayed around long enough to beat that hack Carly Fiorina.
  11. Welcome to the board. I'm a few months behind so I don't get to comment that much so it's great to see people talking about it! I guess they may have changed Matt's feelings somewhat to make it a real triangle. I know Maggie was worried back in the February episodes that he saw Karen as a wife. Maybe he did and was suppressing it, I don't know. Maybe they also wanted viewer sympathy to be with Maggie so viewers could accept the recast (did they know Bethel was gone for good at this point?).

  13. Keisha Knight Pullman essentially defended him, and there were no posts here insulting her. The difference with Rashad is that her comments were dismissive and belittling of dozens of women. And it's not just some type of lynch mob hysteria against truth - there's a reason why she went to the press to clarify and defend herself. I'm sure she, or her representation, quickly realized just how awful those comments were.
  14. The upbeat Marilyn McCoo vocals don't exactly fit Laura Nyro's angst, but dammit if I don't listen to this far more than I probably should. There are also some lovely vocals from Florence LaRue.
  15. The battle raging throughout Europe about Islam seems to have taken another dark turn. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/videos-witnesses-capture-charlie-hebdo-attack
  16. Katie seemed older than her age, and I think she would have gotten along very well with Hope and Bert. I wish they'd tried it. Or Vanessa for that matter. I think they had Ed and Vanessa together in order for Ed to be burned out on a certain "type" of woman, one he'd repeatedly been drawn to, so that viewers would understand more when he got together with Maureen (who was totally different than any woman he'd ever been with...and of course that's ultimately why he wasn't happy with Maureen, but that's a story for another day). When I watch this material I really wish they'd had a strong co-writer or producer to help with flow and energy and so on. It's not hard to see why the show fell apart when Marland left, because it's somewhat rickety in the 1982 material I've seen even when he's there. I guess because that was still a long transition period for GL that the Dobsons had begun, a transition not finished...well, maybe it never finished, actually.
  17. Thanks. I'd forgotten that. It's a shame. I liked them together. I wonder if he had interest in any particular female character, or just a generic younger actress. Katie/Mike could have been fun.
  18. I read something about how this may have been off the record (as she apparently said she didn't want to get involved)? If so I guess that would explain the bluntness. It still makes me feel dirty that she would say "forget these women." It's so dehumanizing.
  19. Is that when she wore the little red hats and red suits? She looked like a rich old lady from a kids' movie circa 1975. I was so embarrassed.
  20. I remember not long after Reva came back from the dead, there was this odd, random scene with Vanessa and Lillian with Annie, cackling over what a homewrecker Reva was and what loose morals she had. The whole thing seemed so tacky and random, and as someone wrote in a letters page at the time, Lillian was the absolute last person to criticize another woman for being a homewrecker (and Vanessa would have known that). It just shows how GL's greatest weapon (it's history) was so often ignored and misused (this was also around the period that Reva told Marah she was her first born, and then the whole Amanda/Alan paternity rewrite mess).
  21. Saying "forget these women" makes my skin crawl, because it just reinforces the general view in society of women who have been raped. Their stories are meaningless because the main focus has to be on Bill Cosby and a grand conspiracy against Bill Cosby, even though, truthfully, Cosby and his legacy have not had any particular sway in the last twenty years. It's just shameful to dismiss them as nothing, and to laugh at them. Two dozen women claim to have been drugged and raped, and they are meaningless compared to a "legacy" of scolding and pulling faces. I'm going to take her advice and forget she ever existed.

  23. That would have been interesting. I know Neighbours has tackled it with Susan and kept it going for nearly a decade now.
