  1. I guess the lighting fit the tone at that point. There was such a hubbub over Hubbard's ad-libbing, both on this show and The Doctors, but generally she doesn't add lines that feel forced or out of character. Maybe they derail the scene just a bit, but not seriously. I'm pretty sure the, "I'm sure he twisted your arm," "He did! It hurts" bit was an ad-lib too, but it works and adds some unpredictability and fun. I also get the feeling Fulton and Larry are the ones who had John and Lisa as a bit salty in their scenes together, as there's no real reason for them to be having a chummy dinner together (Lisa wasn't that close to any of those people). I like when the characters learning the truth get the "Tom and Margo?" response (Frannie did too). It was a good way for Marland to reinforce their role as honest and as a tentpole couple.
  2. Yes. Not long presumably. I guess they killed Penny off to give Althea more story when she returned, and to free up Jerry. They may have felt the show already had several women in that age range (Penny's age range). I do wonder if the show had gone on longer, if they would have brought her back from the dead.
  3. I love the Lisa/Lucinda and Lucinda/John scenes in this. Love the, "I hope you have better luck than your last marriage," "I knew you were going to say that!" It's so weird to see Iva sitting around encouraging Ellie to have kids with Kirk when Iva deeply loved Kirk and nearly married him. I'm glad to get to see Kim's reaction to the big lie. Hal was really endangering himself having all these secret meetings with Frannie. I still wonder if the show planned to put them together. I'm glad Marsha's mother knew how unhealthy her relationship with "Aaron" was. I like getting to see her family, and their everyday problems.
  4. That's a mistake (about Althea). saynotoursoap wrote a detailed history of Penny several years ago. http://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/27061-the-doctors/page-19#entry952259
  5. Apatow's a hack. I wonder if anyone asked him about Franco and that skeevy stuff with the instant messages last year that he went on to joke about on SNL.
  6. Thanks for sharing that. I can't wait to read it. I see those axing threads are going around again. It always amuses me when people clutch their pearls at the thought of Stacey being axed. They're very lucky I don't produce that show.
  7. Oh good. I'm glad they didn't actually have sex in the car...
  8. Thanks. I'm going to try to get a better one of him soon. Or find one of Sue Osman.
  9. I give a lot of credit to Harry Reid and Jamie Borstwick for making that Ben/Jay scene work as well as it did (which wasn't saying much). The whole thing was so forced and while I can believe that Ben would be blinded by a need for comfort and by his suppressed desires, the story essentially is now saying Ben just needs any man, even one he grew up with and has never had any interest in. And that he was going to try to rape Abi if Jay hadn't come in makes it even worse. Obviously they aren't going to be paired (although they'd probably have more chemistry than Ben and Johnny did...) so either the story will be quickly dropped, or Ben will go out of his way to ruin Jay's life and we'll hear idiots say it's a new, hip, sexier Phil and Grant.
  10. I think she'd try to mother Lachlan at first, and then when he won't let her, or undermines her, I think she'd snap. I agree that they may burn her out too fast, especially already letting us know what she did to Ross. James just seems like an ass to me. Belle's story is basically that she accidentally killed a friend of hers, went to prison after being convinced to cover it up, and has been disturbed ever since.
  11. I think Blake and Ross have a few encounters after this and Holly walks in on one of those. Ed and Lillian have sex during the blackout.
  12. A large portion of a blackout episode. This is already on Youtube, but most in clip form, so you may enjoy seeing it all put together. It starts at around 30 minutes, or a little later. Many good scenes, although my favorite is probably Jenna's fairy tale, or the Maureen/Roger scenes, or, of course, Blake/Ross. I'm reminded of how much I wanted to punch Lujack/Nick's father in the face. Today's soaps would have had Julie and Dylan screw in the elevator.
  13. Last half of an episode. o184btm identified it as June 30, 1992. They also gave a link to a RATSC recap that is full of nicknames (as was the RATSC way) - some annoying, some amusing. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!original/rec.arts.tv.soaps/kdteuGe0X50/CdSzx8aNyk0J Andy/Julie = happy me. Seth seems like he's going darkside here. Odd. I had a good laugh at him sitting down with Scott and casually, endlessly detailing Julie's dirty laundry. I guess that's the Marland way of expository attacks. I wonder if they were planning anything for Julie/Scott. Evan - yum yum yum. Looking back I realize one of the reasons I disliked Courtney was because cute Andy and gorgeous Evan wanted her. Hilarious that Rosanna apparently said no one could understand her troubles. Typical ego on her. This reminds me that she rarely had interaction with Lily, who also filled that poor little rich girl slot. I have a feeling if they'd interacted too much they would have hated each other. Lisa looks like she's a dictator's wife. You see the two sides of MES' Frannie here - girl-next-door in those silly overalls, sexy wife in the bathing suit that could have come right out of some type of softcore. I never cared about Emma/Ned, but the scene of Emma at the door as Ned talks to his daughter is a beautiful performance from Kathleen Widdoes.
  14. M-W, F - 1 half-hour episode (22 or 23 minutes with commercials) Thursday - 2 half-hour episodes Sometimes the hour-longs don't air on Thursday, depending on whether ITV wants to use it to disrupt another show (which I think they're doing early next week with Eastenders)
  15. My issue with the Reardons wasn't Long, per se - I don't love Marland's writing for them either. I actually don't care for his Tony at all, and Bea seems like she would be living next door to Maw Green and Little Orphan Annie during the Depression-era strips. I think he does a good job with Nola (although the transition from bitch to comedic heroine isn't very smooth), and Maureen, but they just don't seem like a family to me. I haven't watch as many of Long's full episodes, so maybe that changed, but nothing about them clicks as a family for me.
  16. Is that Kimmy Robertson's voice? The weirdly placed eyes on Birdy are certainly Twin Peaks enough.
  17. So Helena left town with Justin? Or did she go without letting him know she would be with him? Confusing. So many curtailed and rushed stories - you can already see the wheels preparing to come off. I wonder if they had no idea JWS was going to quit?
  18. To be honest I don't really think the Reardons worked as a family. I think the Lewises had that potential more, although it went haywire when it mostly became about who was Reva was marrying or about to marry or had once married.
  19. It's nice to see you posting here again.
  20. I think I would appreciate that more if any of her death had been about her, instead of, essentially, Ed having an extended sad, along with a few nice moments for other characters. In the end it amounted to very little. Not having any of her family return (oncamera) was very telling. I think there was more story to tell with her alive and divorced from Ed. I realize she would have likely been written out within a few years either way, I just think the character would have been better served.

  23. I'm afraid if they do that it will just end with Phil and Kathy sleeping together and having another baby. I just wish they could do something with Ben. It's pathetic to think they brought him back for what likely would have been a knockoff Christian/Syed with Johnny. The character is just one rehash after another, of his own stories and the stories of other characters. Stories that weren't that good to begin with.

Wasn't that Good Afternoon America a flop? I never thought I'd see Daily Mail quoted as a trusted source...then again it's Billy Bush, what do you expected.
  25. I didn't know she was in those movies. I wish we could see this show. Is this one of those that is archived somewhere? I can't remember.
