Y&R: Old Articles
Watching that Memorial Day episode... That Danny/Lauren duet...oh my! That may be the whitest duet of all time. I think my favorite part was Danny grinding against the guitarist. I hadn't seen some of those Jill/Philip flashbacks. It was nice to see a rebuttal of the idea that was often peddled in later years (and by Katherine here) that Jill was a devious tramp out to get money and men. And the final scene where Katherine makes Jill think she's declaring a truce, only to all but wave that puzzle piece porn photo in her face - perfect. And perfectly played by Jeanne Cooper. I miss her so much. Poor Kate Linder trying to act in the background... Nice Paul/Andy scenes. And nice tight pants on Paul. I really liked the John/JoAnna scene too. SSH fit in well at Jabot - good breezy attitude. I wish they'd done more with the character. And I love that hilarious WWF World Champion belt she's sporting. Only in the '80s... I also like how seriously Bill Bell took national holidays like this and July 4th. To him they weren't just an excuse for a pool party. I guess that's cheesy and today would be associated with uber-conservatism, but it's something we need. And, as we see here, it leads to good drama.

She looks 39 to me, just a good 39. Sometimes I think Kirin looks good and other times I think he looks sickly (he also sounds like he has a cold at all times). If it wouldn't make Priya sad I'd say Vanessa and Rakesh should get together. I just hope they won't go the obvious Kirin/Priya route.

I think it was Kirin, the 17 year old (the actor is 20something) who is dating/living with Vanessa, who works at the vet's office with Rhona and Paddy and used to be in love with Rhona. His father is the gorgeous Rakesh, who is engaged to Priya.

Dear God, if Pam and Les Coker are not the worst characters ever created for this show, they are very high on the list. I want someone to backhand them every second they are onscreen.

Doctor Who
He's said he wants to but won't while Jenna is on the show. I haven't had a chance to start it yet, due to computer issue stuff. I think I can soon.

Doctor Who
Richard Madden is perfect. Literally perfect. He has watched Doctor Who since he was a child!!! http://www.vulture.com/2015/03/richard-madden-on-game-of-thrones.html If I had not been a Jenna Louise Coleman fan for nearly a decade, I think I would hate her right now. (there's a Song of Ice And Fire spoiler in there that hasn't been on the show yet - be warned)

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Lisa Vanderpump's blog entry was terrifically written by the standards of those blogs...very good imagery. I especially liked the part about Brandi "mutilating" her face. Brandi trying to topple Lisa last season must rank near the top of the list for dumbest things a Housewife has ever done (I'm not talking about criminal behavior - I just mean actions on the shows).

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
This one’s right after the other episode I posted. Important notes: - Various Robert scenes in here. Robert being supportive and happy (for the first time since Andy left…). Robert as the devoted son. Robert in warm Sugden family scenes that make me sad at what he lost. Robert helping to save a child! You see, Robert isn’t all bad. (ironically, Kathy, whose niece he helped save, was the Katie of her day) - Baby Victoria! - Jack is as terrible at hiding affairs as his son is! He’s even worse, actually, as he makes out with his mistress in broad daylight after returning to the village. - Affairs help you find kidnapped children! - If this is not the most hilarious rescue scene on a soap, it’s high up there. - The Kelly/Roy/Chris/Kim scene in this is absolutely priceless.

I hadn't realized how much she'd grown to hate the role, to the point of having a breakdown. It was very "honest" in that way soap magazines mostly stopped being by the early 80's. It's also another reminder of how Lemay's cynicism toward family units that weren't like his upbringing cast something of a pall over AW's underpinning, doing real damage to the show long-term.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
August 1997 throwback to the affair between Jack Sugden and his ex-stepniece Rachel that helped destroy his marriage to Sarah, heavily damage the psyches of Andy and Robert, and ultimately, lead to Sarah’s death. Jack may not have planned to have an affair, but he sure did enjoy himself when he did. Poor Rachel had a miserable, pathetic life, and one of the most depressing deaths in soap history. Blake’s 7 fans may recognize the picture of Rachel’s mother... Other stories include Eric Pollard getting throttled by the constipated Lurch patriarch of one of ED’s many flop families, the Cairns; bitch goddess Kim Tate delivering some cracking lines; glimpses of Chris (the best villain Home Farm ever had) and sister Zoe (without whom ED would likely never have had so many gay, lesbian, or bisexual characters); teen adventures with Roy Glover (best known for the actor’s long run on the UK Shameless) and vixen-in-training Kelly Windsor (best known in more recent times for popping back up every few years to raise hell for her ex, Jimmy King); and Kathy, widow of Sugden son Jackie and central heroine of ED for nearly 15 years, having yet more custody heartbreak with her niece Alice (a story that would eventually send Kathy off the show when the actress criticized the show in the press and promptly got the sack). Current characters include Marlon (with his father, who seems to be wearing Rip Taylor’s old wig), Lisa, Zak, and Pollard.

I just don't think there was anything left of Mary by the time of the recast. She was an impossible character made somewhat palatable by Kate Mulgrew.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
The ratings really haven't been what you'd expect for such a hyped event, and I'd guess that Brandi is one of the big reasons why. I wonder if Bravo will ever realize it's time for her to go.

The Politics Thread
Now some "aides" (AKA the senators are too gutless to speak up) are saying the letter was a "joke" and Democrats just don't have a "sense of humor." http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/03/10/republicans-admit-that-iran-letter-was-a-dumb-idea.html I read that Megyn Kelly, the most effective mouthpiece of "serious" Republicans, grilled Cotton last night, so I guess they aren't thrilled. Hey, at least he can run for President now! He'll probably get the nod in no time. Speaking of that, one creep endorses another. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/scott-walker-endorsement-scott-baio-2016-elections-115981.html

I meant the operations he had a few years back. If she runs and loses again, after being trashed by the press and by many in both parties, I think she'd be horribly demoralized, even worse than 2008. And there are a lot of Republican empty suits who would be formidable (like Scott Walker), due to Obama fatigue. That's why I wonder if she'll go through with it. Politico attempt at a gush-fest on media darling Tom Cotton. This is thin gruel by Politico standards - I guess it's hard to try to have a circle jerk over him when so many major Republicans in the Senate notably refused to get involved, or are now, like that preening nobody Graham, trying to do a little dance and act like they didn't want to sign on and it's all Obama's fault. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/cotton-storms-the-senate-115960.html?hp=t3_r- The Politics Thread
That's a fair point. I guess they took the bait - either that or they knew this was going to be an issue no matter what. I really do wonder if she's going to decide not to run, especially with Bill's health. - Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
