  1. I just watched the first 5 in a single sitting and generally enjoyed it. I'm glad the show is available in this format because it really does make watching it and keeping up with it much easier. A big thing I noticed is that the cast is TINY compared to the cast of any given season of TNG, and I can see both positives and negatives in it. Positively, it means we get to spend more time with the cast of characters we have, and hopefully that means more development. Also, there are no random irrelevant characters who are supposed to be regulars but do nothing and add nothing to the show (which was mainly a characteristic of latter-day TNG). On the other hand, one of the things that made TNG feel so real was that the cast was large and the characters didn't all know each other or hang out with each other. You could have an episode be about Paige and Spinner along with a completely unrelated story about JT and Liberty. It just made the school feel bigger, busier, and more alive. It's no huge deal, though, and it certainly marks a new era. Having three Hollingsworth siblings makes it feel like they're the central characters, and honestly, it feels like they're trying to make Miles THE lead of the show. I didn't watch the last few seasons of TNG at all, except for Cam's suicide, so Miles at the center of the show is taking some getting used to. Now that I'm a teacher watching this, I definitely have to feign ignorance to roll with some story points. I think it's so precious how TV makes it seem like the student council can decide which clubs the school will have or make it mandatory that everyone participates in intramurals LOL Also, Shay taking her pants off in class is perfectly fine, and approximately a week or two after the Gaming Club is created, they have branded hoodies. Surprisingly, I'm fine with the pacing so far. DTNG was really only semi-serialized in its heyday with self-contained episodes fitting into a bigger picture, and that's what I'm seeing here, though it's a little bit more serialized.
  2. Is this season supposed to be just ten episodes? Meaning the entire "season" is gonna be done in two weeks on TV in Canada? Obviously, I'm in the US and will just have it all on Netflix, but I thought they were going back to weekly eps on TV. I'm surprised they didn't go with 60-minute episodes, but I'm kinda glad they stuck with the 30-minute standard.
  3. And they (or someone) are ruining it by processing the crap out of it.
  4. Whoever wrote it was spot on, especially the "Bill Cosby is not actually Dr. Huxtable" part. Too many people can't see pass the character and consider that this man that they don't and have never known personally could be something different from the brand he's built for himself over the decades. It's like people who blindly defend and support politicians. There are people in my own damn family that I can not and will not trust -- why in the world am I gonna rush to the defense of someone who is in this deep that I've never share a gasp of air with? Granted, there are celebrities that I love and will defend, but not when it's this damning.
  5. I just learned today of Shirley Stelfox's death, and I must admit, I never saw her on Emmerdale (mainly because I've only really watched stuff from the Farm years), but I loved her on Keeping Up Appearances, and I'm glad she was able to stay busy with ED up until the end. Hopefully they remember her and her character well.
  6. The troops are rallying in his defense, and from what I'm seeing, the conspiracy narrative is taking hold. People honestly believe that this was a huge set-up because "Bill was about to buy NBC, and white supremacy won't let that happen" (paraphrasing a quote from Dick Gregory). What in THE actual f!ck.
  7. That's HEAT from I Love New York and I Love Money ("I felt very betrayded"), and he dayplayered as a bartender at ConFusion for a few episodes.
  8. I noticed that the show is back on Pop, airing two episodes a day Monday-Friday.
  9. Perfect time slot!! I'm glad they didn't change the schedule too much (like Antenna TV did...again).
  10. I'm not even gonna pretend like I'll tune in for it, but it's nice to see Glender back for a minute.
  11. This song is so charming in that old school "Ready, Daddy?" "I'm ready, Daughter" "We gon' get us a hit record down in Nashville" country way.
  12. I'm still trying to wrap my head around some of the shade thrown at Brit in the last few pages of this thread lol The bitch is making money and being a mom. Which part is she supposed to give up?
  13. Facial hair really doesn't nothing for me (neither good nor bad), but that little bitch is gorgeous.
  14. I love Betty Buckley
  15. I just skimmed through some of the special they aired back in July, and it looks decent. Linda and Stephen are all over it, which is nice bc I've never really seen or read much from them about the show and its impact. It's also nice to see some of the oldies sitting around and being retrospective alongside the more recent cast members. They need to just get it together and put them all on Netflix. This show is perfect for rainy Saturday afternoon binge watching.
  16. I LIKE that they have self-shot videos in there, because it really does add some authenticity, but idk, I still they should have had some more traditional stuff in there. Maybe that's just the first sign of me being unable to accept changes lol It'll probably grow on me. The cast does look good in some of them. The guy who plays Tristan has finally grown into his looks because his platinum blond era wasn't pretty. Now he's looking very handsome. The new mix of the theme might seriously be my second fave after the definitive S4-S5 theme.
  17. Why is poor Kim Fields on this?
  18. Those cast interviews add some extra insight. I'm glad that they've explicitly stated that they will be getting serious again. I haven't watched it on television in years, so I didn't realize that the change in tone coincided with the rebranding to TEENick. All I know is that at some point, the show just got bogged down in endless triangles and unrequited love. Which, DUH, that's a huge part of this show's character, but there were lots of things missing. NC looks like it will bring some of those missing elements back while still retaining the look and feel of actual high school life.
  19. Those Straight Talk videos are awesome! It's so weird, but Lauren and Adamo talking just looks and feels like two high school friends catching up after a long time. Specifically, for me, they still feel like "older kids" whereas Adamo with Miriam feels like one of the older kids catching up with someone who was in the same grade as me, which is essentially how it was when they were on the show. It really and truly felt like they went to school with my friends and I, and now these videos feel like they're catching up in the same exact way we do. Meanwhile, here is a trailer (from Netflix) for NC which states that all of the episodes will be available on January 15. I agree with one of the commenters in that it looks like they're trying to get back to the feel and content of TNG's glory days. It looks pretty decent, and I'm going to definitely give it a shot, even though I still know so little about the carry-overs from the previous series. I wonder how much time they'll spend on exposition in the beginning since technically it's a brand new series. Also, what is supposed to be the opening sequence is below. I love the new mix of the theme song, and I like the idea of using social media, but they definitely overdid it, and making nearly every photo and clip a selfie makes it look way unnatural. The song has a good, moody vibe, and it's ruined by all the huge, fake smiles.
  20. I was barely out of high school when Poker Face was released. Going diamond is a big deal, but I don't see how a 7-year-old song getting there is indicative of where she's headed.
  21. Wasn't he the one who ended up being Craig's son? From the show's last few months.
  22. I saw this couple on PBS's Song of the Mountains a few years ago, and their Christmas album has become sort of a new holiday tradition for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C988VEpQQ-E
  23. I've always heard the Rosie rumor.
