Agreed. I felt the movie was very light on the drama, but that’s to be expected for a Hallmark movie. Ironically, the only person I felt was the villain type was the news reporter. It’s sad how true her disdain for “happy news” was since it’s the reality we live in here in the real world. Of course, besides Chandler’s character needing more time before his death occurred, and I’d have liked to see them show the accident, I really was impressed with O’Grady’s delivery with that handicapped speech. Things you don’t think about as it’s in our everyday language but it’s origins are rooted in a place that might be hurtful to others. Particularly those who might not be able to do anything about it themselves.

Working full-time as a data scientist in Atlanta, Chandler Massey appears intermittently as Will Horton on “Days of our Lives” and is excited to be back in the Hallmark fold following the success of Hallmark Channel’s “Next Stop, Christmas,” which ranked in the top 10 of 2021’s most-watched Christmas movies, averaging 2.79 million viewers. This time he’s starring in “Heart of the Matter” for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries,” which premieres tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT on the cable network. So, what’s it been like for the three-time Daytime Emmy award winner now that he’s officially become a Hallmark star? “Both of the [Hallmark] projects that I was fortunate enough to work on I’ve really had the time of my life,” Massey shares. “Obviously, ‘Next Stop, Christmas’ was so much fun and I thought it was really charming, and [‘Heart of the Matter’] was probably the biggest acting challenge for me of my career. And one of the most touching scripts I think I’ve ever read.” In “Heart of the Matter,” we meet a cardiologist named Andie Hodges (Aimeé Teegarden) who has a great passion for the patients she treats and prides herself on giving them the best of care. Following the accidental death of Massey’s character, Henry, a young patient of Andie’s with an intellectual disability, the accomplished doctor is left shaken and doubting her ability as a medical provider. Things get even more chaotic when Henry’s mother, Gladys (Gail O’Grady), files a malpractice lawsuit against Andie which leads to potential sanctions from the medical review board. It’s about two women and their journey through grief and forgiveness, and love and acceptance,” Massey says before giving us some background about his neurodiverse character. “[Henry] experiences lower than average IQ but is relatively high functioning. He has a job. He’s just recently moved into his own place and he places a lot of importance on his independence and making a life for himself.” Unfortunately, as previously noted, Henry’s independence is short-lived. Despite all the sadness surrounding his character’s death and where things go from there, Massey quite enjoyed working with and learning from his co-stars, Teegarden and O’Grady, both of whom he says he had an “amazing” time working with. “[They] were phenomenal actors and really, really great people. I think I learned a lot from watching them and they are obviously both powerhouses in their scenes so it was just a treat to be able to work with them.” Photo by Bettina Strauss/Crown Media Massey also learned a lot from the time he spent researching for the role. In the movie, there is a speech made by Henry’s mother to a TV reporter in which she explains the background of where the term “handicapped” came from and why that word is not liked by people who are often labeled that way. “The history of words is important,” he says. “It was a huge learning experience for me. Definitely the biggest challenge I’ve had and I think the furthest I’ve gone away from just my natural self in playing a character.” Meanwhile, the bond Henry shares with Andie and his mom will be on display throughout the movie, giving viewers the chance to see how Henry is able to connect with others. For instance, in one scene Henry and his mother plan to watch a movie together, “Spiderman,” which was named in the script as the one Henry wanted to watch most. However, O’Grady and Massey were able to put some emphasis on the why part. “We decided that ‘Spiderman’ was a movie that Henry always suggested watching,” Massey shares. “He’s a big Spiderman fan so we sort of took what was in the script and tried to build on that a little bit.” Aimeé Teegarden, Chandler Massey (“Heart of the Matter”) Photo by Bettina Strauss/Crown Media As for Henry’s friendship with Andie, Gladys, in grieving over her son, isn’t aware that the two were friends and blames the doctor for not being there when Henry needed her most. So, if Henry could speak to his mother about the lawsuit, he would probably try to talk her out of going that route, Massey thinks. “What will become very apparent for anyone who watches the movie is that Henry and Andie really have a special relationship. He trusts her a lot. I think they respect each other and so I think Henry would understand his mother’s pain, for sure, but try to convince her that there are better ways to heal and Andie is not the target.” With tonight’s premiere, Massey will be tuning in from home like everyone else. In fact, it’ll be the first time he’ll have seen the movie in its entirety. “I read the script so I know what happens [but] I haven’t actually seen any footage yet except for a few minutes when I did some ADR stuff. But yeah, I’ll be watching it with everyone else.” He’ll especially be tuning in to see what character traits were kept in. “I do like to keep a piece of me in every role that I play, sort of like a cornerstone from which to build outwards,” he says, adding, “​I doubt you’ll be shocked by this [laughs], but I do stray… I think my time on ‘DAYS’ ingrained in me this tendency to go off script a little bit in the moment if it feels right, so it’s hard to know what made it… and I won’t know what made it into the final cut until I watch it but I think there are mannerisms and phrases I inserted that weren’t necessarily in the script but I thought that it helped me kind of ground Henry and sort of find that cadence of how he speaks, how he moves, and things like that.” Speaking happily on his being able to work full time while still being able to secure acting gigs here and there, Massey says, “I think it’s nice that I have a stable day job because opportunities like this one kind of came out of nowhere. It’s hard to predict what I’ll be doing six months from now.” Of course, considering “DAYS” is filmed about six months out, can he provide a prediction on that front? “Yes, I guess I can predict that,” he says. “I’ll be on ‘DAYS’ until they kick me off.” Speaking of which, even though he’s currently appearing sparingly as he’s on recurring status with the daytime drama series, since returning to the set last fall with scenes airing in March, Massey reveals that he has been back a few times since then. “I think I’m averaging about once every six weeks or something like that,” Massey notes, noting that his most recent stint was taped just over a month ago. As for fans complaining about Sonny (Zach Tinker) appearing without Will, Massey points out, “Believe it or not they are two separate people, so they can be on their own.” He adds, “I definitely get it. Obviously, Will and Sonny are the main partners for each other but I’m also sure that Zach is appreciating getting to explore Sonny on his own for a little bit outside of the coupling.” Meanwhile, playing Henry in “Heart of the Matter,” Massey hopes fans will take a journey as we meet his latest character. “[With Henry] I think I took some risks. I went big. I told myself, ‘This is either going to be one of the best things I’ve ever done or the worst things I’ve ever done,’ so I’m kind of terrified. In a follow-up to our story from last week, the Maurice Benard hosted “State of Mind” YouTube series is now also available in audio form on both the Apple and Google Podcasts platforms. Previously, it was announced that the show had become available on Amazon Music, iHeartRadio and Spotify, among other platforms. In the latest episode, Benard sits down with former “GH” co-star Ronnie Marmo (ex-Ronnie Dimestico). “Of course, Ronnie and I shared a lot of laughs throughout the interview, but we had such a deep conversation. He speaks about his childhood, overcoming bad choices and finding acting,” said Benard of what fans can expect from their conversation. Since he last appeared on the daytime drama series in 2012, Marmo has gone on to star in multiple plays shown across the country, particularly stage productions of “I’m Not a Comedian… I’m Lenny Bruce.” Audiences have enjoyed the show which has been staged in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. “One Life to Live” alum Josh Kelly has joined the cast of “General Hospital” as a series regular, Deadline is reporting. He’ll first appear on the ABC drama series by the end of this month. Details on the character he’ll be playing are being kept under wraps at this time but it’s understood that he’ll l be introduced via a storyline heavily influencing the lives of Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). In addition to his upcoming role on “GH,” and his previous role as Cutter Wentworth on both the ABC version of “One Life to Live” and the online reboot, Kelly has also starred as Jeremy Caner in the Lifetime drama “UnREAL.” He also starred in the NBC dramas “Midnight, Texas” and “Bluff City Law.” More recently, Kelly appeared in the dramas “What/If,” “Army Wives” and cross-over episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19.” He appeared opposite Emilie Ullerup in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original movie “Christmas Bells Are Ringing.” Utilizing some of his real-life military experience, Kelly was featured in the role of “Stone” in the films “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” His additional film credits include “Jarhead 2: Field of Fire” and “Wolf Town,” among others. During the week of May 2-6, 2022, seven of the 13 daytime broadcast shows saw improvement compared to the same week last year among Total Viewers while another seven shows saw week to week increases. In fact, two shows saw improvement compared to their performance during the comparable week in 2020 when viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs as a result of more people tuning into television during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the week, “The View” (2.339 million) saw the biggest week to week increase in viewers, up +125,000 viewers, followed by the first half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.462 million) which was up just +35,000 viewers week to week. Compared to the same week last year, however, both shows were down, albeit not by much. “General Hospital” (2.215 million) was also up week to week, +17,000 viewers, and lost a mere -1,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Impressively, the series was the only daytime drama series still showing originals during the comparable week in 2020 that managed to be up in viewers compared to two years earlier, +77,000 viewers. “The Talk” (1.572 million) was the only other daytime broadcast series to see increases in viewership compared to their 2020 performance, +29,000 viewers. Compared to the same week in 2021, “The Talk” was up +120,000 viewers. “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.473 million) again ranked last in Total Viewers for the week. The series has been hemorrhaging viewers in recent weeks as it’s been trailing perennial last-place finisher “The Talk” in viewers. The fourth-hour extension of “The TODAY Show” still performs decently in the all-important Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 demo ratings, however. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.108 million) marked its sixth week in a row in which it averaged more than three million viewers for the week. The series is up +342,000 viewers compared to the same week last year, the most for any daytime broadcast series, and is up +1.274 million over its comparable 2020 performance when it was airing its second full week of classic episodes (reruns). “The Young and the Restless” (3.542 million) had the second-largest increase in viewership compared to the same week last year, +272,000 viewers, and also saw an increase of +1.201 million viewers over its 2020 performance when it also aired classic episodes (reruns) for the second full week. Is Jacqueline MacInnes Wood wearing a wig? I can't help but notice the hairline is more centered when her line is usually on the right. Plus the coloring seems off, and it's cut at the edges when Steffy clearly had more of a slight curl and longer hair when she got shot and was left in the alleyway. While I have to disagree with you on some of what you said, I definitely disagree on the 2022 discussion thread. I guess I'll have to take more of an active role in the discussions to spruce up activity. Definitely will not do a yearly thread thing. Monthly is perfect.

Joining the cast of “General Hospital” in February 2019 in the then recurring role of Harmony Miller, actress Inga Cadranel recently wrapped her stint on the daytime drama series after being placed on contract status last fall. The character died in the May 4, 2022 episode after succumbing to her injuries from being hit by a car. “That’s it! That’s all she wrote,” said Cadranel in a post on Instagram following her character’s demise. “I want to say thank you to ‘General Hospital’ fans! You guys are amazing. You stuck with this crazy character who did a lot of bad things. You saw through her pain and I am honored to have stepped onto the ‘General Hospital’ stage and into Hollywood history.” She noted the experience was so much fun and she has much love for the fans. “I see you. I thank you. The lights have officially gone out in Harmony’s dressing room.” “You are such an amazing actor, scene partner and human!” commented on-screen daughter, Katelyn MacMullen, who plays Willow Tait on the soap. “Harmony forever,” she added. In a separate post on Twitter, Cadranel said, “Wow. What a wild ride! I want to thank each & every ‘GH’ fan who took the journey with me. I loved playing this broken woman who only wanted love. It was nice knowing you.” Katelyn MacMullen, Inga Cadranel (“General Hospital”) Photo by Craig Sjodin/ABC In recent months, it was revealed that not only was Harmony not Willow’s biological mother, but she was also behind the 2020 killing of Dr. Neil Byrne after she broke into Alexis Davis’ house and killed him while he was sleeping by injecting him with a drug that resulted in an overdose. Last month, Harmony tried to kill Neil’s brother, Brendon, through an overdose and by strangulation. Neither attempt was successful as she gave up before she could complete the deed. The character finally saw Brendon perish after he fell off a cliff. In an interview in the newest issue of Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Cadranel told the publication of how she found out the character would be meeting an end. “Frank [Valentini, executive producer] let me know in advance that it was going to be a final, meaningful death,” she recalled. “I knew my contract was coming to an end and that was fine because I have other projects I am working on, but I thought it may be the type of storyline that would have Harmony disappear or leave [town] so that door could always be open down the road. I was definitely surprised when he told me he and the writers decided that Harmony was going to die.” Being that she’s a Canadian-born actress, Cadranel shares that her time on the soap meant a lot to her. “Obviously, I’m from another country where I have been on countless television shows. I have had a long career and never had to get a ‘real job’ since I started acting so I know I am fortunate as an actor, [but] moving to L.A. is a crapshoot for any actor who is not from here, and most of my friends and colleagues end up going back to Canada when it doesn’t work out. Courtesy of DGA; SAG-AFTRA; IATSE; Teamsters The DGA, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE, Teamsters and the Hollywood Basic Crafts unions announced this evening a revised agreement with the AMPTP which modifies the current COVID-19 Safety Agreement that has been in place since September 2020. The new agreement “creates a more flexible set of protocols for areas of the United States and Canada with low COVID hospital admissions while maintaining core elements to keep sets safe,” the organizations say. Additionally, the modifications apply only to areas that have confirmed low COVID hospital admissions, leaving largely in place the requirements for areas experiencing surging admission rates. These new workplace practices apply to both vaccinated and unvaccinated cast and crew. Testing Protocols are as follows: Pre-employment testing is still required of all crews, but with modifications to the types of tests allowed. Testing will still be required on an ongoing weekly basis during production for Zones A and B, but reduced in frequency. Zones C and D do not require testing beyond pre-employment.Masking will not be required in most settings, with the specific exception of shuttle vans. Additional modifications include flexibility on meal service and rules related to transportation. The following current agreement conditions remain in place: Vaccination: The new agreement continues to allow employers to mandate that employees in Zone A be “up to date” on their vaccinations, including a booster.COVID Compliance Supervisor: Hiring of a dedicated COVID-19 compliance supervisor responsible for safety compliance and enforcement, who will be accessible to cast and crew at all times during working hours.Quarantine Pay and Sick Leave: All employees will continue to receive 10 days of COVID-19 paid sick leave, and the leave can be used for any of the eligible COVID-19 events (e.g. testing positive, exhibiting symptoms, isolation or self-quarantines, or when a member of their household tests positive for COVID-19). The agreement allows employers to impose more stringent requirements regarding masking and testing as the production circumstances require and will remain in effect through July 15, 2022. The parties will continue closely monitoring COVID-19 developments and will consider further modifications at that time. “The COVID-19 Safety Agreement is the outcome of unprecedented coordination and solidarity between the unions and collaboration with Employers to develop science-based protocols that minimize the risk of COVID-19 virus transmission in the industry’s unique work environments,” the group notes. “Since that time, the protocols have driven a successful rebound of film and television production while prioritizing safety for casts, crews and all on-set workers.” The agreement is between the AMPTP and the Hollywood unions which includes the Directors Guild of America (DGA), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and the Hollywood Basic Crafts, (Teamsters Local 399, IBEW Local 40, LiUNA! Local 724, OPCMIA Local 755 and UA Local 78) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). Following the cancellation of “Queens,” ABC has also decided against ordering a second season of “Promised Land,” a drama series that told the story of two Latin families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley. The series aired just five episodes since it premiered as a midseason replacement in January before it was pulled off the network’s schedule leaving its remaining episodes to air exclusively on Hulu. Over its first four airings, the series averaged a paltry 1.719 million viewers with a 0.19 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.30 rating in Adults 25-54, the two primary sales demos used to set primetime television advertising rates, according to Live+Same Day viewing figures released via ShowBuzzDaily. Factoring in delayed viewers (Live+7) over its first three episodes, the series average bumps up to just 2.9 million viewers and a 0.3 in Adults 18-49. Compared to ABC’s other dramas, “Promised Land” only performed better than “Queens” in Total Viewers while ranking last in the demo. Despite it being pulled by ABC, the show remained in production as it was allowed to complete its 10-episode order. ABC has decided against a second season for “Queens,” a freshman drama that follows a hip hop group who reunite decades after their ‘90s peak. The series starred Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy as women in their 40s who work to recapture their fame, fortune and swagger. Airing just 13 episodes, the show concluded its freshman season in February with an anemic 1.071 million viewers, a 0.20 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.29 rating in Adults 25-54, according to broadcast finals released by ShowBuzzDaily. In the demos, the series finale managed to top only repeat airings of dramas “Superman & Lois” and “Naomi” on The CW .In the show’s finale episode, entitled “2022,” the Queens prepared to be inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame but they couldn’t help notice the void Brianna’s (Eve) absence from the group had left. EXCLUSIVE: Following an inquiry by Soap Opera Network, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) will be updating the Daytime Emmy nomination totals for “Days of our Lives” and its spinoff “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” Previously, the organization announced that the mothership series had received 11 nominations while the spinoff series had three. The update will reflect that “DAYS” now has 12 nominations while “Beyond Salem” has four. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences In Thursday’s nominations announcement for “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” there was confusion regarding the combined nomination for the two shows in the Outstanding Casting category which lists the two as a single nominee (“Days of our Lives / Beyond Salem NBC | Peacock”) in literature. In the three other three categories in which the shows are competing against each other (Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Writing Team and Directing Team) the two are listed separately. We’re told this was an administrative decision based on the rules for each category. Further, in categories where entrants were allowed to submit a full episode (e.g. Series, Writing, Directing), “Beyond Salem” was allowed to separately enter. However, in categories where entrants submit a reel consisting of highlighted scenes from the year, “DAYS” had the option to include material from “Beyond Salem” on the same reel because it’s the same production team. The option was extended to other craft categories but Casting was the only one where it received a nomination in such a format. In correcting the matter, it’s understood that only the total number of Emmy nominations received by the two shows will be updated but no changes will be made in the literature, and the number of nominees in the category will not be increased. Instead, should the category result in a win, the statue will be engraved as “Days of our Lives / Beyond Salem NBC | Peacock.” The inclusion of “Beyond Salem” in any category marks the first time since 2014 that there are more than four daytime dramas competing, specifically in the category of Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. In fact, for the first time ever, a television series will be vying against its spinoff in the category, NATAS noted in yesterday’s release. The last spinoff series to receive a nomination in the category was “Port Charles,” a spinoff of “General Hospital,” in 2003. “GH” was not nominated that year while “As The World Turns” took home the gold. Outside of the aforementioned categories, “Days of our Lives” was honored with eight other nominations, including seven in the acting categories and a nomination for Live Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Zucker was previously nominated in the Lead Actress category in 2014 and 2020 for her portrayal of Nicole Walker.
