Reason for Downtime
Welcome back!
Unfortunately, the SON Community was down for much of this afternoon and late evening due to a much-needed transfer from one hosting company to another.
As many of you have pointed out in several posts, there have been technical glitches impacting the Community these last few weeks, if not months. I learned in late June that the hosting company that has maintained the services for the Community since at least 2013 had not been conducting ANY backups on the site since September 2023. As a result, with limited storage available on the server, a lack of software updates (PHP/MySQL), and the server itself reaching beyond end-of-life status, it was necessary to switch servers before the lights went out on 20 consecutive years of passionate soap opera discussion.
Around 1:00 p.m. ET, a new hosting company that I chose to take over from the old one confirmed the transfer of servers. However, the data they had was from yesterday, which means posts from that point on were missing. I absolutely refused to allow the site to go back online without all the data being resynced first. That has now been done.
I did manage to update the message boards to the latest released version under IPV4. However, there is a newer version under IPV5 that I was hoping to sneak in while the site was down, but there were too many complications that further delayed me being able to turn things back online. I'll attempt that update another day.
In the meantime, I'm so sorry it took so long for the site to get back online. I hope everything is working as it should. I am exhausted beyond belief.

Edit Post Time Limit Removed
Dear Members:
After implementing a 60-minute edit post time limit several months ago, the administrators have agreed to remove the setting due to newly available internal metrics that will allow us to better manage records for those who've abused the edit ability, which was the cause of the time limit being implemented in the first place.
As such, effective Thursday, April 24 at 8:45 p.m. ET/5:45 p.m. PT, the edit time limit has been removed for all registered members, allowing posters, if necessary, to once again edit their posts without worry about a time limit.
Note: As has been the case since the beginning of the SON Community, an exception to this change is archived forums, threads, topics, posts, polls, etc.
Edits are not possible once a post or similar is classified as archived. This includes requests to delete posts or threads made in the past, regardless of when it was first published.

Shutdown
For nearly 23 years, I have been attached to a place called Soap Opera Network, a community where fans of daytime dramas come together to discuss their favorite shows, characters, writers, directors, actors and producers.
Over the years, it truly evolved into becoming what I deem to be a digital museum for the soap opera genre, housing long-forgotten news and information shared by passionate individuals looking to preserve all the life that the shows who've come and gone and remain, have given every one of us.
Unfortunately, in recent years, this place has become some sort of cesspool where certain individuals complain non-stop about one poster or the other, demanding this one or that one be banned for childish reasons, and posters responding to other posters in a nasty way just because they don't agree with or have a differing view on a particular topic or something someone said.
I am sick and tired of it.
I have long stated I am not anyone's parent, but I've recently come to realize that I was wrong.
My child is Soap Opera Network, and she's been abused for far too long.
Recently, I've been offered to sell this site. I declined their offer because no amount of money from some third party will make up for all the time, money, effort and headaches I've been through over the years just to cash out for a few bucks.
Therefore, to correct the wrong that has been infested into this place, I will no longer tolerate posters whose sole purpose is to control, demean, derail, or incite bad behavior where my child is Queen.
No longer will Toups or I interject ourselves upon an issue where we receive demands that a poster should stop responding to your posts just because you have them on ignore or have an issue with them.
While you have the right to ignore a poster, and that is your best option to avoid them, they do not have to stop responding to your posts. If you deem that to be stalking, get a court order and email it to me with a judge's signature and I will make sure that poster doesn't respond to your posts. Otherwise, don't bother me.
Don't respond to a poster whatsoever with ridiculous responses like "Are you on drugs?" just because you disagree with what they said. They can say the sky is black when it is blue, or God isn't real. I don't care. Don't like it, ignore them. Toups and I will deal with board issues. You will not.
I could say more, but I felt this was enough for me to get off my chest at the moment. I'll probably delete this later.
