"Sarah!" Patrick brought his hand up to his cheek where she slapped him. "What the hell was that for?"

Sarah planted her hands on her hips, anger spilling out of her,"What do you mean Patrick? What was the slap for? Oh I don't know, what do you think it was for?" She finished sarcastically.

Patrick looked down at his feet before looking at her, "Look Sarah, I am sorry things had to end between us. But I never promised you anything."

"Rich, real rich." Sarah said, leaning back to slap him again. He caught her arm and said, "Don't try it again Sarah. You knew how it was between us."

Sarah wrenched her arm free from his grasp, "I NEVER expected for you to leave me with a letter saying that you were going to a medical conference and then finding out you were never coming back. That there was no medical conference. Do you know how embarrassing it was for me to go to work? To have everyone know that you lied to me? I actually transferred to another hopital Patrick! If you wanted to end it with me, you should have just ended it. Not be a coward about it, you bastard."

Patrick sighed heavily, "Ok, I admit I screwed up. I just didn't know how to end it."

"You think?"

"I was coming back though. I just had." Patrick hesitated a minute too long and Sarah pounced.

"Had what? Another chick to screw over. Patrick let me tell you this. This may come as a shock to you but you are not God's gift to women." Sarah spewed angrily. "I pity any woman who ever gets involved with you." She stabbed him in the chest with her finger as the elevator opened and Robin stepped out.

"Oh my God Sarah! I can't believe it's you! I just heard that you were here from AJ. He asked me to find you. He thought you might have gotten lost and he didn't want you paged quite yet." Robin looked from Sarah to Patrick, immediately catching on to the tension between the two. "Have I interrupted something?"

Sarah smiled thinly at Robin, eyes narrowed, "We were done. Thanks Robin. I better go find AJ. Doctor Drake" She said sarcastically, "I wish I could say it was a pleasure." With that she turned on her heels and stomped into the elevator.

"Patrick, what was that about?" Robin asked tentatively.

"Nothing." Patrick walked away, leaving a stunned Robin.

Sonny opened the door to his penthouse when Brenda knocked later that afternoon. "Hi Brenda. This is a surprise. How are you holding up?" Sonny embraced Brenda as she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave into his kiss.

"Hmmm, that felt good. I decided to get out of the house for a little bit. James is sleeping and I am a little stir crazy." Brenda tipped her face up again. "Kiss me again Sonny." Sonny obliged, pulling her into a passionate kiss.

Sonny broke the kiss reluctantly, "I don't want to, you know, give a show for all the neighbors here. Come on inside." He closed the door and grabbed Brenda's hand, leading her to the couch. "Tell me what's going on."

Brenda snuggled up against Sonny and aimlessly dragged her fingers up and down his thigh. She told him everything that had happened so far during the day and how Alan was still in surgery. How AJ returned with Sarah Webber. "I never really knew Sarah Webber, just knew that she was Elizabeth's sister and involved with Nikolas Cassadine for a while. But she is now married to AJ. I guess they met in Santa Barbara. Have you called Carly?"

Sonny kissed Brenda's forehead and brushed her hair back, "I have to wait a few hours to call her. I want to make sure that Michael is off to school. Last time I spoke to Carly, Michael said he loved school down there."

"That's good." Brenda said distractedly. "Hey are you going to Robin and Patrick's housewarming party? Their house is adorable."

Sonny nodded, "Robin called and invited me."

Brenda tilted her head up and smiled, "Let's go together." she said impulsively.

"I don't know Brenda. Are you sure you want everyone knowing about us?" Sonny cautioned.

Brenda leaned over and kissed him thouroughly. "I am positive."

"Hey Laura! Come here!" Luke was sitting on the couch in the living room flipping through the channels when he was stopped by a broadcast of Tiffany Hill's. "Tiff is on the air again and the story is about Alan Quartermine. It looks like he had a heart attack or something."

"Oh my God." Laura came out of the kitchen and into the living room. "Is he alright?"

Luke turned up the volume and shrugged his shoulders. "It's pretty vague and it sounds serious. I wonder why Barbara Jean hasn't called me about this."

Laura sat in the crook of his arm and settled in to watch the broadcast. Moments later, they saw Ric Lansing approach the hospital and Tiffany run towards him.

Tiffany shoved her microphone at Ric, "Mr Lansing, what do you have to say about Dr Alan Quartermaine's condition?"

Knowing an opportunity when he sees one, Ric turned towards the cameras and put on a grave face. "My heart goes out to the Quartermaine family. Dr Quartermaine is a fine, upstanding citizen. Tonight, all of Port Charles should be praying for the health of Dr Quartermaine and wish him and his family well. That is all for now."

Tiffany spoke quickly, "Mr Lansing, how will this affect your plans for running for mayor? We have heard rumors that you were looking at the Quartermaines for an endorsement. Are you still trying to get one?"

"Ms Hill." Ric began, "At a time like this, politics take a backseat. We should be concentrating on the health and welfare of Dr Quartermaine. Thank you Ms Hill."

Luke turned off the TV in disgust. "I can't believe that we have to pick between that snake and Baldwin. It's like picking between Lucifer and Satan. They are one and the same!"

"I know honey, but there is nothing we can do. We have to just vote for the best candiadate." Laura tried to reason.

"That's my point Laura," Luke started to explain, "There is no best candidate. And now no one else can sign up and get on the ballot." Luke sighed, "One of them is going to be mayor and we will be going to hell in a handbasket.

Laura stood up and started to walk towards the kitchen, "Unless someone does a write in campaign."

Luke stood up and yelled, "You are a genius!"

The Quartermaines were sitting in the waiting room, waiting for some word on Alan. Hours had passed and they had heard nothing. Edward was staring out the window, Tracy was pacing from one end of the room to the other. AJ held onto Sarah's hand and Jason just stared ahead. For once, all of them were in a room together and no one was fighting.

The door opened and a nurse rushed through, "Dr Quartermaine! Come quick!"
