Y&R: John article which mentions an interesting twist!

Forgive me if this has been posted. I have no clue where it's from, I found it on SOAPnet's message board...

Is John Losing His Mind?

This week on Y&R, all signs seem to indicate that John is beginning to crack under the pressure of being incarcerated. Or is his mental breakdown just an act?

Jack is stunned to learn that his imprisoned father is showing signs of mental decay thanks to his being locked up. In a rare moment of solidarity, Jack and his step-Mommie Dearest, Gloria, will seek medical advice from John's physician while Ashley tries to win support from Will, the district attorney who sent John to jail in the first place! Is it too late to save the Abbott patriarch? Or is the forgetful act just, well, an act?

"I think that the stress [that John's under]is affecting him," shares Jerry Douglas, who plays the incarcerated Abbott patriarch. "The writers have come up with some interesting things for me to play."

Even though Douglas is only making sporadic appearances on Y&R, the actor is well aware that John is driving much of the story back in the Jabot boardroom. "I don't know how long John will be in prison," Douglas muses. "But you make it work. I think the writers have done a phenomenal job [showing John's situation] with just the one visiting-room set."

Mental woes run in the Abbott family--remember Ashley's breakdowns? But, then again, John is Ash's adoptive dad. So could there be something behind John's recent mentions of her biological father, the late Brent Davis? Douglas isn't sure if the script references to his ex-wife Dina's deceased lover means that Y&R will be addressing this story point, but he'd love to see it served up--with a twist. "Bill Bell [Y&R's late creator/headwriter] once said to me the biggest mistake he ever made was writing that Ashley isn't John's daughter," reveals Douglas. "It would be interesting if they did a DNA test and Ashley really is John's child."

Ideally, John would be a free man if and when those scenes play out. "People are always asking me, 'Are you coming back [full time]?' I tell them I couldn't conceive of [that not happening]. John's been a criticial part of the show for 25 years!"

So with Ashley's biological dad being mentioned...I wonder if they will bring that story up! It could mean some dynamite material for Eileen Davidson and Jerry Douglas.

What a minute.

I thought John didn't know that Ashley isn't his daughter. How did he find out?

He doesn't. Jerry Douglas is just suggesting that if they every bring that story back, it should turn out that John actually is Ash's biological father.
