I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually prefer Ashley and Derek over dead eyed Tomas.

Their story minus Shanice and Andre would have been a tolerable supporting story. The problem much like with Tomas is thay they're trying to make them leading characters

I disagree, because when Tomas is on, we get Kat, Eva, or Bill. Ashley and Derek are just alone together being boring.

  • It is kind of cute to see Anita have phone call kiki's with Jackie Tyree, but Vernon looks petrified at the invitation to Thanksgiving dinner. That could be a hoot and a holler, though!
  • Samantha, calm your ass down... you are far too jumpy. But if this is what Bradley and the deadbeat want, then go for it.
  • Whew... the child bride is coming in hot, and Andre has very little patience for her shenanigans (as evident by calling her "lady" in a way which is not a compliment).
  • Uh-oh. Vanessa is pissed off. Watch out, Joey. I have a feeling you will not be able to handle a pissed-off/turned-down Vanessa.
  • The continued noise, caused by Dana's incoming 'shouse', has to be one of the best running gags, ha.
  • The child bride is telling some white lies she is hoping to make herself believe to Andre about her marriage.
  • Not Samantha trying to nab a glass of wine with her dinner. Girl, do not give yourself away like that.
  • Not Vanessa ignoring what Joey is hinting at. She is fully thinking with her nunu and not her head. And not a job... whew. Vanessa, rein in Joey and stop this foolishness.
  • Now, I knew Joey and Vanessa would be caught [again] at the casino, but I did not expect it to be that character. Wow.
  • What a thoughtful gift from Dani to give Bill: the original key to the office space, with the dates inscribed. But it is an old present. Whoops.
  • How sweet of Vernon to reserve Orphey Gene's for him and Anita. Now, that is pulling some weight with power and prestige.
  • June is excelling at her job at Orphey Gene's, and I love seeing that for her.
  • Poor Randy; witnessing this between Joey and Vanessa and then having to play it cool. Joey knows what a mind game this is and is playing it to the best of his abilities.
  • Uh-oh, that's right, child bride: your husband wants his true wife... Dani Dupree Hamilton!
  • So, Vernon does not play about sweet potato pie, I see.
  • Bill remembering better times; loved it!
  • i KNEW RANDY AND THE CHILD BRIDE WERE RELATED! I just did not see it as cousins... but damn, she has that Parker bite! Whew... I cannot wait to see where this goes from here.

Notes:

  • Ugh. Another breakdown by the writer. Scenes are so choppy when they do breakdowns, but Davis did her very best to make something work.
  • Karla Mosley (Dani) is delicious in the role. You can tell she is having the time of her life, more so than in any other roles she has done in daytime.
  • Hot dinner going onto a hot table should be placed on a place setting on a dining room table, not direct-to-table like Bradley did. Whew. But what a delicious-looking dinner and side.
  • Seeing June continuing to be a prominent figure at Orphey Gene's makes it feel more home-like. I enjoy it.
  • The turning down of the stage lights during Anita and Vernon's dance felt like a stage production, and I loved it.
  • Timon Kyle Durrett (Bill) and Mosley shine in scenes together. I also loved how Dani's fashion fit the time when the law office would have been given to Bill as well!

Whoo! That's a different side. I did think she was way too much of a mewling simp these whole 7+ months. It would be interesting if that turns out to all have been a play.

Dani pretty much called it out to Bill

Hayley showing some backbone... about time.   I did think the sweet act was all an act, but I'm hoping she has an axe to grind against Bill and not the Duprees.

Bill is a lawyer, one that isn't known for being ethical and winning at all costs... perhaps one of his cases caused the death of Hayley's parents.

And it does put into context that brief scene between Hayley and SPS where Hayley was putting on the sweet act with SPS knowing that Hayley wasn't being authentic and knew they were in the same boat.

I suspected it was a "play" this whole time.
