GMA3, ABC News

After surging to season highs one week earlier among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, and placing second in both categories, “General Hospital” fell back down to earth during the week of August 25-29, 2025, seeing the largest week-to-week drop across daytime broadcast, according to the latest figures released by Nielsen.

For the week, “General Hospital” averaged 1.798 million viewers, down 92,000 viewers compared to one week earlier. In the key demos, the soap’s 0.17 rating among Women 18-49 was down -0.09 week-to-week (0.17 rating vs. 0.26 rating), and its 0.29 rating among Women 25-54 saw a decrease of -0.08 week-to-week (0.29 rating vs. 0.37 rating). Compared to the same week last year, the long-running drama series was down -111,000 viewers, down -0.03 among Women 18-49 (0.17 rating vs. 0.20 rating) and down -0.04 among Women 25-54 (0.29 rating vs. 0.33 rating).

That said, “General Hospital” was impacted by breaking ABC News coverage on Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28, resulting in a portion of the country not being able to watch the happenings in Port Charles, which saw the full episode on both days to be unlocked on the network’s official website.

“The Young and the Restless” also saw week-to-week drops across the board and set a new season low among Total Viewers. With just 2.831 million viewers tuning in, the drama series was down -106,000 viewers week-to-week and down -110,000 compared to the same week last year. Demographically, the show marked the second largest week-to-week drop, down -0.05 among Women 18-49 (0.22 rating vs. 0.27 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.36 rating vs. 0.41 rating), with the latter setting a new season low.

Like “General Hospital,” “The Young and the Restless” was also impacted by breaking CBS News coverage on Wednesday, August 27.

On the positive side, “The Bold and the Beautiful” averaged 2.502 million viewers, up +76,000 week-to-week, while “Beyond the Gates” also saw week-to-week gains, up +24,000 viewers, with the new series averaging 1.539 million viewers. “The Bold and the Beautiful” was flat with its week ago performance among Women 18-49 (0.21 rating), and saw a minor drop week-to-week among Women 25-54 (0.34 rating vs. 0.35 rating).

Compared to the same week last year, “The Bold and the Beautiful” saw the largest year-over-year drop among Women 25-54 (0.34 rating vs. 0.42 rating), and saw a minor drop among Women 18-49 (0.21 rating vs. 0.23 rating).

With the show airing amended telecasts throughout the week due to breaking ABC News coverage on Wednesday, August 27 and Thursday, August 28, which were retitled “GMA3-ABC,” plus the Friday, August 29 broadcast being excluded due to Labor Day weekend, “GMA3” set a new series low. The news program averaged a mere 1.095 million viewers for its Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 26 broadcasts, which was just +30,000 more viewers than that of competing “NBC News Daily” (1.065 million). “GMA3” aired repeats during the comparable week last year.

ABC really needs to do something about GMA3 at this point.

This show has been failing for so long that I wonder if they're secretly developing a replacement similar to how we didn't know BTG was in development. They've literally tried everything that you could do with GMA3 and nothing has worked.

Side Note: This isn't me saying the replacement would be a soap but I do believe they're taking pitches for something. Whether that is a talk show, soap or game show, I have no idea.

I agree - I just can't see them sit idly by and just do nothing. It likely has about zero presence on streaming or other avenues that could bring in revenue, so unless they're just going to let the slot eventually go to affiliates they'll have to do something.
