After a two-year run on Amazon Freevee/Prime Video in the U.S. and the UK, among other territories, “Neighbours” will conclude its run in December, it was announced on Thursday.

According to a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the show is “resting” with all remaining new episodes from the show’s current 40th anniversary season continuing to air on Prime Video around the world and Australia’s Network Ten four times a week until the end of the year.

The show promises it will continue providing all the “big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love” at its conclusion.

“Audiences all around the world have loved and embraced ‘Neighbours’ for four decades and we are very proud of the huge success over the last two years including often appearing as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK and the show’s first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Series in 2024,” said executive producer Jason Herbison. “As this chapter closes, we appreciate and thank Amazon MGM Studios for all that they have done for ‘Neighbours’ – bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally.”

Herbison finished his statement, saying, “We value how much the fans love ‘Neighbours’ and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future.”

A continuation of the long-running series, “Neighbours” revolved around the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne.

The continuation was picked up by Amazon two years after the finale in 2022 as a platform booster for the service’s now discontinued free streaming platform, Amazon Freevee, which was phased out and all its content moved to Prime Video, albeit remaining free for those not yet subscribed to Prime.

In addition to new episodes, hundreds of episodes from previous seasons are available to stream on Prime Video, part of the two series-themed FAST Channels, “Neighbours – Looking Back” and “Best of Neighbours.”

Check out our interview below with cast members Annie Jones, Stefan Dennis and Georgie Stone in honor of the show receiving its first-everDaytime Emmy Award nomination.

At launch, the continuation starred Alan Fletcher, Annie Jones, Candice Leask, Emerald Chan, Georgie Stone, Hannah Monson, Jackie Woodburne, Lloyd Will, Lucinda Armstrong Hall, Lucinda Cowden, Majella Davis, Marley Williams, Matt Wilson, Naomi Rukavina, Rebekah Elmaloglou, Riley Bryant, Ryan Moloney, Sara West, Shiv Palekar, Stefan Dennis, Takaya Honda, Tim Kano and Xavier Molyneux as series regulars.

Guest stars included: April Rose Pengilly, Costa D’Angelo, Georgia Walters, Guy Pearce, Ian Smith, Jessica Muschamp, Jodi Gordon, Melissa Bell, Mischa Barton, Nathan Borg, Viva Bianca, Trevor the Dog, and more recently Chrishell Stause.

“Neighbours,” which ran for more than three decades during its initial run, having premiered March 18, 1985, was the longest-running drama series in Australian television history with millions of fans across the globe and helping launch the careers of several household names, including Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Russell Crowe, among others.

The series first aired on the Seven Network in Australia before it was canceled a few months later due to its poor performance in the Sydney market. The show was later moved to the 10 network in 1986 and remained on the channel until 2010. In 2011, the show moved to 10 Peach, a free-to-air television channel run by Network 10. The show was abruptly canceled in 2022 when the UK’s Channel 5 announced it would no longer carry the series on its network.

“‘Neighbours’ will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer,” the broadcaster said at the time, after previously carrying the show since 2008. “We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”

Amazon announced in early 2023 that it would bring back the Freemantle-produced series on a global basis through its streaming platform.

Jason Herbison has served as the show’s executive producer since 2013. Andrew Thompson returned as a producer.

Along with the UK and the U.S., Prime Video carried the series in Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Australia’s Network 10 retained first-run rights in Australia for the new chapter of the series.

This is so heartbreaking; it seems like the changing of the guard from Freevee to Prime Video is what did it in. What's promising is that episodes are going up on YouTube and that the word usage of "resting from" seems promising for the potential of finding another production company to join the team, and I hope they are able to.

This is their third cancellation, and they have rallied before. I hope they can do it again.

    • Ambyr Michelle continues to be *that girl.* She’s just a star, period. Elevates every scene she’s in on the sheer strength of her emotional realism and charisma. Can sell any dialogue. I wish the show veered away from the B&B-style scripting. TMG/Leslie’s tirade stood out, I suppose, but she’s getting a bit mustache-twirly. And I wish DD had more to do in that episode than stand and sob.
    • Well, that was down to CBS being weak and not being willing to just pulling the plug entirely. They didn't want to commit to cancelling the show in case they needed it for their schedule basically; plus they kept showing that they were willing to make cuts if needed to be.
    • I'm sorry but clearly what I've said is not satisfactory to you. I have now read what you have to say, twice. As it happens, my interest at this point is looking at other mislabeled files to find this other Ruth Buzzi content. I do not see any point to each of us repeating ourselves, so I will leave it here.
    • It seemed to be your intent. coming into a thread I started and making multiple posts saying my data was wrong. In the next paragraph you say "Of course, I was suspicious from the very first instance where what I saw & heard did not agree with what it should have.  I'm very glad to know why." That certainly didn't stop you from immediately saying the data was wrong, until I provided additional receipts. Why did you not check the daily episode guide (for instance, this one for the 1980's) I posted for the world to see for exactly this reason...to help confirm airdates: http://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1980-1989-t15361.html? That is what you should be checking BEFORE you make any posts in the future like this, trying to suggest something from my data is incorrect. You could have also messaged me and asked me why your dates weren't adding up with what the correct data is. I would have fast forwarded through that video you posted, spotted Roman and Hope and immediately have told you that was the 11/1/83 episode.
    • Jason, just let me say that it was not my intent to any way impugn any of your data  or research. I'm very sorry if it came out that way. Obviously the person I got these 4 November episodes from has mislabeled files, multiples, which I was certainly unaware of.  When I am editing it is all about what I see & hear. Later, I find time for greater reflection.  Of course, I was suspicious from the very first instance where what I saw & heard did not agree with what it should have.  I'm very glad to know why.  If you find you are no longer interested in the edit, that is fine. I have no ego in this. I did it only to share it.
    • I feel like Vernon and Anita need to not be hypocrites and try and take the heat off Bill in this case. It's clear that the family used him as a fixer and especially knowing he helped with Martin's situation, they need to either be quiet or support him. BTW...with Vanessa being in the hospital for food poisoning, am I the only one who thought Shanice was gonna say she's pregnant or had an STD? The only reason I say STD is because she hasn't had any memorable sex partners, but I definitely don't believe she just had food poisoning.
    • Yeah, I mean I know that the name still pertains. I just laugh at it not now being called Arizona Dust, but, I admit it simply does not have the same ring to it. Above, that is interesting that Arizona had already come up before the crisis.
    • Anita vs. Leslie, bring it!
    • Leslie and her family are from Chicago? Anita's background also includes being a former Chi-Town native? Might they connect this and go somewhere with it?
    • Honestly who's to say Leslie even birthed Eva, I mean she's a liar, I wouldn't believe a word she says about Eva being Ted's(or hers)
