    I don't mind unlikely couples, but I still don't get what exactly he sees in Leo.

    Agreed, it probably is just Ron’s obsession with Leo and having him as the vessel to project his own issues, desires, etc. 

    Plus, writing them as contemporaries, when the age gap is quite obvious, isn’t the way to go either.
