I know it definitely happens in real life and I wouldn't even mind if that's what Days was going for.  Unfortunately I don't think it is at all.  It appears Days is trying to sell this as love or at least the beginnings of a great relationship.

I haven't read spoilers lately, but if Javi turns out to be the new Lady Whistleblower it might make this story more intriguing.

Jay Kenneth Johnson doesn't seem to have the stamina to do longterm acting these days, it's sad, but it is what it is.  JKJ came back for the Last Blast webisode series and for other arcs, but ...

I would guess that Ron might have requested John-Paul Lavoisier due to knowing him from OLTL? or maybe JPL reached out to Ron? Whatever. JPL just doesn't fit as Philip Kiriakis.

What about Jacob Young?  It seems like Jacob Young doesn't want to work longterm contract on soaps. From his social media, he seems interested in a variety of things, including directing.

Just saying, from having watched his arrogant JR Chandler on AMC -- It seems to me like he'd fit as Philip Kiriakis, if he still has the acting talent he had years ago.
At this point perhaps he'd fit better for Philip arcs, if he doesn't want to do a contract.

I've mentioned how I struggle with some of JPL's over the top acing choices, but at the end of the day, I find myself on Philip's side in all of this. I figure RC is going to screw it up at some point and take Philip too far or make him a complete loser, but for now I'm really enjoy him shaking things up.

It's actually crazy how legitimately entertaining, bar the general problems the show has, the show is when Leo and B&S are nowhere to be found. It's also unfortunate that no matter the HW change, we're still going to be stuck with the show's awful background music.

Superficially, I've really been enjoying the shameless showing off of the beautiful men on this show. Almost makes me nostalgic.

Sorry, but I hated the pizza reference. I pray those meta in-jokes die with RC's exit.

Maggie looked gorgeous today. And surprisingly, Kayla looked great, too, considering she's had some of the worst outfits to ever be worn unironically on this show. Still hate all RSW's ugly shirts though. He has so many of them. Much better when he goes without.

Are we to assume that the other side of the table was pushed up against the fourth wall? Or maybe they were leaving space for the lyrics of Defying Gravity (

)?

Kind of odd not to have Roman at Thanksgiving.

And are Tripp and Joey together?  Where's Wendy.

I thought the leg joke was tackier than the pizza joke, but the tone for both was off.

Also, while I try to avoid mentioning the looks of women of a certain age, Bonnie's facelift has settled nicely, but whatever Kayla has done, she looks the best.

Joey took a trip to visit Wendy and Tripp in Hong Kong.

Roman was still feeling ill after his poisoned cupcake and was resting upstairs.

They mentioned both things in the episode.

The pizza joke makes sense because it's referencing the Q Thanksgivings for Wally/Ned.  It was "wink, wink" but wasn't as obnoxious as usual.

I appreciate the reach to make this Leo/Javi "relationship" a thing, but I can't agree with it. There's nothing invigorating about it for me, and I'm noT interested in the story that gets those two back together.

I have to agree that RSW and JPL are both hot. Yeah, I know that this place bashes both of them, but I like them on my screen. Call me shallow.

Neither one of them is a thespian, but this is DAYS, not Masterpiece Theater.

I've been a fan of JPL's looks since OLTL, and although I realize his portrayal of Philip is problematic to many, I enjoy it. JKJ didn't work at all in his last stint, so I have no problem with JPL changing it up.

THIS isn't good looking?

Thanks, I got the Roman and the pizza references, but I missed that Joey went to Hong Kong.  It just felt odd to have Roman absent from the episode.

I wonder what Tripp does in Hong Kong?  Medical licenses are rarely transferable internationally.

Also, add me to the “JPL is cute” voters list.  He makes sense as his mother's son, and I get the appeal. I saw him hiking Runyon Canyon, and he is surprisingly tall and slender.

    • The thought has crossed my mind. Tricia Mann-Grant did say in her EW interview w/ MVJ and DD, that Leslie wants to be a Dupree just as bad as she wants Eva to be. I believe now that's the direction they are going in, that maybe she is just obsessed with the family. I could be wrong though.
    • True. But I have always had mixed feelings about that twist. Since I love the Damian storyline which already had twists and turns. Also I could not wait for a new powerful AND BLACK businessman to mix it up at some point with Victor. It just seem like another twist that was added on for twist sake. And also for a character (whether I love him or not) to hijack a new and refreshing storyline so they can be propped.    Once good thing that I can say about JG is that he loves to keep the Abbotts in rotation. So I could see that happening with Diane. I don't think she has mentioned her backstory, either. I would be intrigued.
    • That's how I feel. Beats could have been played for the past couple months wherein Dante and Gio interacted and had a difference of opinion -- or something. I don't know. I do know that this crushing rant that blames everything on Gio is absurd. -- Reading over all the comments here about characters and couples, it's kind of amazing that we have any show left considering the number of times actors and writers and execs were given influence to make major character and story decisions. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
    • Lol. But Jeffrey was weak to mama. Leslie can go dead because anger is a great motivator via Martin defending HIS mama and just not taking ish altogether. This ain't how it should be. They need not run the show like this. It's too noticeable. The way Eva said mama reminded me of Penny from Good Times. Instead of physical abuse it's mental abuse.
    • Oh, I see! You posted this on the general retro soap thread because of the voiceover.
    • Yeah, I agree. It's part of the reason I have shade picked on Martin's Secret being so on the backburner that it was about to fall off of it. With Dani/Bill/Hayley being the main tale to start us off and backburned and the SilkPress storyline being well paced, but not set to explode until May, Martin's Secret was the other main storyline that could have been developed. And after giving it a nice slow burn to start off, the story upped and vanished in Month 2. That left the show having to rely on mostly B/C stories to stay afloat to various degrees of success.
    • I loved those scenes, lol. I thought I was watching a stage play. But I do hear what you're saying.
    • Jason47's episode summaries clarify everything. https://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1990-1999-t14806-s150.html The construction company is "AJ Construction" (AJ = Adrienne+Justin).   Jencon Oil was building an oil refinery at the construction site.  This was adjacent to the park. Kirk Geiger played the character Chad Webster. The character Chad was an actor in the movie being made.   The child friend with Shawn-Douglas is his cousin Andrew Donovan. A few episodes prior, Andrew and Shawn-Douglas were at the park playing hide-and-seek. They wandered off where they shouldn't have gone, by slipping through the gate onto the construction site.  Shawn-D fell into the hole at the oil refinery. There were several episodes of trying to rescue Shawn-D.  Finally Carly rescued Shawn-D, but he was discovered to be deaf.  Andrew felt bad, but Bo and Shane both understood that it was an accident.  Carly later taught Shawn-D sign language. Shawn-D was played by Scott Groff. Andrew was played by Bradley Michael Pierce. pics here: https://web.archive.org/web/20070404163013/http://www.childrenofsalem.com/days/kids/shawnandrew/shawnandrew.html Larger context here: https://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.htmlhttps://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.html
    • I had a situation last week where I could watch the new episode on Paramount Plus on my laptop, but it wasn't even listed on my TV as an option.
