Members Contessa Donatella
And, thank you, Soap Jesus, for that! Super couples were great ... until they weren't. Then they nearly ate their shows!!!
Members Liberty City
Compelling writing, especially for 2001. And the set(s)? Even better. WOW! The original Kiriakis set! Brilliant. Classic. So stunning.
Members Maxim
I've never seen such happiness from fans all around the boards... as this man leaving Days. This is like a documentary worthy phenomenon. I am so happy for all the fans and wishing Days gets it's last GREAT chance to be BACK. Please register in order to view this content Some writers need to be on a time limit contract (cough, Bradley Bell, cough)... but they aren't. Thank GOD this one was. I myself have never shared the appeal of that era, but of course I understand it.
Members Liberty City
I'm holding my breath; I genuinely thought Patrick Mulcahey would be the "last GREAT chance to be BACK" for General Hospital, and his tenure was all too-short, so... I'm hoping this a good sign of things to come for Days of Our Lives, which can [hopefully] begin relying on its streaming era.
Members soapfan770
My real guess for is while there may have been some real issues as all the soaps hd to downsize with the post 9/11 recession and viewership and advertising drops, the real reason was probably to elevate his longtime best friend to the job and say “Hey! I cut the budget” Problem was, as a HW she turned out to be a talentless hack. I did the enjoy the slimmed down 2009-11 period as well for the most part but that was because of Tomlin & Whitesell making it work, not anything Higley wrote on her own.
Members Maxim
I tried getting into Days, without knowing who was the head writer... couple of years ago... and it was the Devil storyline =... Let me say... I literally peed my pants from how bad some of the scenes were written. Then the sheer interest of seeing WHO is writing worse than Bradley Bell... made me do the research and find out the name. I am saying this with a disclaimer that this is my personal VIEW, I get that there are different strokes for different folks - maybe some people do enjoy this style of writing and IF I was 10 or 12, this would have been MY show. BTW, wikipedia is calling this now A FIRING... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Carlivati He served as head writer for the Peacock soap opera Days of Our Lives until his firing in July 2024.[1][2] But I don't know how trustworthy wikipedia is...
Members Liberty City
The original MarDevil storyline (which was far superior in writing and production) was done by the team headed by James E. Reilly. The last attempt was by the "writer". Untrue; the Deadline Hollywood report, a.k.a. the first to report, labeled his exit as a "departure," though, stated that the new team was brought in "effective immediately" feels like a firing/dismissal of some kind, because I highly doubt the "writer" would take voluntary leave of his position.
Members Maxim
Hmm, I hope someone can edit out this untruth on the wikipedia page.

Members Contessa Donatella
Wikipedia is rife with errors & the dickens to correct. Their editing process is cumbersome to say the least. One thing is that the timing is right. If they wanted to fire him, they had to wait a certain amount of time so as not to get in big trouble with the WGA. Well, lo & behold, the timing is a-okay. So, that is one 'maybe so' factor.

Members MissPhoenixGirl92
Well most if not all characters on this soap have been paired up with somebody in one way or another and if you want to have any kind of longevity or viability on this show, you need to be in a popular pairing or at the very least have some kind of purpose. Otherwise there is no point. This is a show that is based on supercouples. Sami was a schemer too but that didn't exactly stop her from landing two very successful pairings in Lucas and E.J. Maybe if the writers haven't damaged Theresa so much as a character, maybe she might still be viable enough for a pairing but since she really isn't anymore, then the only thing left for her to do is to spend the next 10 to 20 years interfering in her son's relationships just like Kate did and that's basically it for her. There's nothing else for her anyway.
Members Maxim
This is not true at all. At all. Who says that this is a show based on supercouples exactly? Is this just your opinion or some kind of written rule. If it's a written rule, where is it?
Members Liberty City
No you don't. Again, stop being so naïve about this. And seeing your viewpoint on this, if you are female (I can only assume based on your username), shows how little and narrow-minded you see your own gender. Shame. Or she can be a success businesswoman, which do exist, you know? Without a man. What a concept, honestly.....
Members Maxim
Of course you don't... some of the most legendary soap characters have never been in a so called supercouple. I would even dare to say these couples are sometimes a safe haven for boring and stale characters to hide in. SOMETIMES.
