While I realize all of that, it seems to me there is always someone who "knew" this or that about a person with suicidal tendencies. And I also know that the person has to get the help for themselves, and often times no one can do anything to help them. But still, these celebrity types are around a LOT of people and I believe someone close to most of them knows they are going through something.

For example, I personally knew the shooter (and his mother) of the Borderline murders that happened in Thousand Oaks, CA back in 2018. That man was a peer of my sons, they played baseball together as young teens and throughout high school. I often gave that kid a ride to and from baseball practice in Orange Co., CA. He was a very angry young man which I (and everyone around him) could see when he was a pre-teen. His mother could do nothing about her son's physically violent tendencies. He scared many grown adults with his outbursts on the baseball diamond. That said, none of us who knew him were the LEAST bit surprised when it turned out he was the shooter in a mass shooting. As sad as that sounds, you are absolutely right that when there is mental illness, it cannot be addressed solely by other people. It's a very, very troubling and sad situation.

That's the thing: you are assuming a person has shown signs of suicidal tendencies. There is zero proof they have. Your belief, unfortunately, is very narrow-minded. Look at Naomi Judd.... her family knew of her struggles, and yet did not see what happened coming, because she shows no signs of it. By your own thinking, her daughters should've been watching her 24/7, and that's just... illogical. Knowing someone is going through something ≠ knowing they have suicidal tendencies. I can speak from my personal experience in saying as a teen I have severely depressed (undiagnosed) and had suicidal thoughts, and when I did bring it up to certain people, they remarked they had no idea, because they did not see that. Different situation again, but it all correlates.

And while that is a sad situation, he easily could've just been a quiet kid battling demons and still shoot up a school. Also, two very different situations. A situation I will share: someone I work with's brother's fiancée killed herself before her wedding. Showed zero signs of suffering, and was outwardly happy and go-lucky, always smiling and appeared optimistic about her wedding, which she was planning for quite some time. She was due to travel for her bachelorette weekend, told her fiancé she'd call him when she arrived at the destination, and instead.... took her own life. So, to correlate to your earlier comment, no one "knew" she was struggling mentally. No one. It was a genuine shock to every single person in her life.

The point is: one person can show signs of possibly doing something and not do it, and equally someone can not show signs of doing something, and then do it. Mental illness is ugly and non-linear.

Regardless of anything else, it is sad he is no longer with us. And it's a sad, sad situation.

@Liberty City: I certainly didn't say that in ALL cases someone knew. Suicide is such a lonely thing. No one knows why people feel the way they do.

Then with a lot of these celebrity deaths, they are often self-medicating with all different kinds of drugs. People on drugs show certain behaviors which I am very well aware of having many addicts in my early life. That was more the behavior I was talking about which other people around them would know to be out of character for these individuals. But of course, someone else can't make a drug user quit.

Still, doesn't matter if you know someone is using, or if someone is depressed, or if someone is just such an angry person that you are not surprised when the do something horrific. Mental health in this country has been lacking for a long, long time. It should be a priority, but it is NOT.

    • Justine had a lot of hooey in it, but she was an actual woman, not a guy in drag. She was a doppelganger of Rachel, French, having had a past history with Carl, etc. Two of the more outrageous parts-Justine bricking alive Vicky into a wall & Justine grinding the gears driving a big rig.
    • Hehe, twi/x actually x, formerly Twitter. Typically I find 2 sources for "crazy fan rumors" - the wrong parts of FB and x. Oy.
    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • My bad….ill fix that  Fixed
    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
