Except for “Days of our Lives,” which is available exclusively on Peacock, the two broadcast networks that still carry scripted programming as part of their daytime lineups, ABC and CBS, opted to preempt their hit shows for sports on Christmas Day (Monday, December 25).

On ABC, the network will carry NBA Basketball instead of an original “General Hospital” episode with ESPN on ABC Sports coverage of the Golden State Warriors at Denver Nuggets game on the East Coast and the Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers on the West Coast.

“GMA3: What You Need to Know” will air as scheduled on the East Coast with Broadway performers Alyssa Fox, Sonya Balsara, Vincent Jamal Hooper and Alex Nicholson, and a performance by  Shoshana Bean and Tyler Hardwick. The show is preempted on the West Coast. On both coasts, The View” is preempted for the network’s airing of the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade.

Meanwhile, on New Year’s Day (Monday, January 1), ABC will preempt its full daytime schedule, including “The View,” GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “General Hospital,” in order to present The Rose Parade and ESPN on ABC Sports coverage of College Football with the Cheeze-It Citrus Bowl: Iowa vs. Tennessee.

As for CBS, the network is preempting “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” on Christmas Day to air CBS Sports coverage of NFL Football featuring the Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs.

Both shows will air originals on Tuesday, December 26 through Thursday, December 28, but are scheduled to air reruns on Friday, December 29, with “The Bold and the Beautiful” airing episode #9048, which originally aired on Friday, June 23, 2023, and featured Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) racing to get to Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) in order to admit his true feelings for her, while Liam’s (Scott Clifton) world comes crashing down as he witnesses an intimate moment between Hope (Annika Noelle) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). The episode is part of the Rome, Italy, location shoot that took place earlier this year.

“The Young and the Restless” will air episode #7735, originally aired on October 13, 2003, and featured Victor (Eric Braeden) receiving a painful reminder about his past. Meanwhile, Nikki and Sharon (Melody Thomas Scott and Sharon Case) fight for the spotlight, and Brad (Don Diamont) worries about Ashley (Eileen Davidson) as Kevin (Greg Rikaart) plays with fire.

At press time, CBS was scheduled to air its full daytime lineup, including “The Price is Right,” “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Talk” and “Let’s Make a Deal.”

On January 29, CBS is airing the Sun Bowl (college football -Oregon State vs. Notre Dame)...
In some markets, the B&B repeat won't air at all that day.

On January 29, in some markets (mostly Pacific Time), the Y&R 2003 rerun will air at a special time or different channel - some are airing it at 3pm after football. This Y&R rerun is the one where Colleen is locked in the freezer at Gina's restaurant, and Kevin sets the restaurant on fire.

I suggest checking alternate channels/times in your local listings if you want to record this.  They haven't been uploading the reruns to cbs.com or to paramountplus.

For anyone who has access to Canadian broadcasts/websites, the Y&R 2003 repeat will air on GlobalTV at its usual time on Thursday December 28, and will be available on the Global website later that night or the next morning.

    • I absolutely love the idea of Krista Allen being on the show. I wouldn't saddle her with Jen though. I'd create a brand new character for her. She could be a diva who lives Beyond The Gates and is gradually seen at the country club. Then I'd do a slow roll out where the Duprees don't like her and her family because she is part of the first white family that "infiltrated" Beyond The Gates. Then slowly...and I mean slowly...expand Krista's character's family as a rival to the Duprees as some have said the show should have. A younger son to mix it up with Chelsea/Kat, a daughter to maybe run for office against Martin. Krista Allen could easily be a great matriarch for a rival family.

    • They said Kate was on the board too.  I am confused if that's all new developments or we always knew that.  I really have no idea why Kate would be on the hospital board.

Then in a brilliant moment she invoked the words of Claire Labine, said by Rosalind Cash as Mary Mae Ward to Stone, near death, a now very famous quote: "Every moment of my life, whether filled with joy or with pain, has the potential for grace realized. Whether it's an opportunity to learn, or whether it's to make a connection, or whether it's to find love which you didn't think existed, these are gifts from god & to throw them back in his face is something unthinkable to me."
    • That would make sense; he is to DAYS as the Quartermaines are to GH, in terms of the hospital board. If only DAYS had a hospital worth being a board member of.

    • I think Arielle Prepetit is great, but I almost wish Naomi had been Nathan and Jacob were Jacqueline (shades of Tom and Margo). We’d have another Dupree son, and the idea of Bill being a disgraced role model for his male lawyer son would have a different resonance around masculinity and generational trauma, especially since we already have Chelsea for the female Hamilton daughter POV. Just for the balance.
    • I actually like Alex/Gabi.   I didn't mind JJ/Gabi, but I agree JJ is a bore.  I am confused as to why Brady is on the hospital board?  Something to do with Isabella, I assume?   If Rachel is the shooter the recast makes a bit more sense.
    • @FaulknerI do agree with you about the male characters. I feel like I've been overlooking that because a female-driven soap has been so rare these days.  They have some relationships they could build upon but not nearly enough. The male characters for the most part don't have any friends or family to help develop them. This is also part of the issue with having only one main family.
    • I still suspect they won't show a kid holding and shooting a gun. I think she stabbed him, and then someone else shot him to cover it up.
