For the week of June 5-9, 2023, news shows led the way in week-to-week gains, likely due to ongoing news coverage over the federal indictment of former President Donald J. Trump.

“The View” (2.288 million) was the week’s biggest gainer, up +84,000 viewers over last week and +3,000 viewers over the same week last year. “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.886 million) was also up week-to-week, gaining +72,000 viewers. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.506 million) had its best performance among Total Viewers since the week of May 1-5, 2023. “NBC News Daily” (1.066 million) was also on the plus side, despite not airing on Thursday, June 8 or Friday, June 9 due to NBC’s coverage of the French Open.

Among the three scripted programs, only “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.771 million) saw a week-to-week increase, adding +27,000 viewers over the week ago. Meanwhile, “The Young and the Restless” (3.244 million) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” were again the only daytime broadcast shows to see an increase among Total Viewers compared to their performances in 2021.

“General Hospital” (2.069 million) aired a repeat on Friday, June 9 due to ABC News coverage of the federal indictment. The repeat did not factor into the show’s weekly average which is based on four days (Monday through Thursday).

“The Talk”** aired repeats all week and is excluded from the rankings. Any data points for the show listed below are for informational purposes only and will not factor into the show’s weekly or season averages.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of June 5-9, 2023 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance last year (2022) and two years ago (2021), respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted Thursday.

Note*: Officially, rankings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are separately providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” year ago and two years ago figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.” Ratings for Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 were unavailable at press time.

    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
    • A kind angel has added both episodes to the vault (UK Diva TV broadcast version).
