I posted a status update about this last week, but I have to comment further.

I really do enjoy both versions of the song, but I feel like Bonnie Tyler is actually embodying the lyrics and what it means to be in love with married men whereas Bette Midler is siiiiiiiiiiiiinging a song, and the song happens to be about being in love with married men. The wailing really turns into a full-on whine by the end of the song, and there's really no emotion behind it. I do love the strings in Bette's version, though, and I REALLY love the musical bridge that is completely nonexistent in Bonnie's version.
