Someone mentioned in another thread that that they're surprised Jax lasted so long and I'm inclined to agree. I had little clue what he was involved in between Brenda's "death" and his involvement with Carly. The only things I could recall were the Courtney and Sam storylines.

Do you all think that "the teenagers" ate latter day OLTL.

I think the one thing Jax had going for him is he was generally liked by the audience.  He was a good guy that could be Sonny's mortal enemy with solid reasons.  I think there was an effort to make Jax/Ingo a leading man after Brenda's death, but unfortunately he has trouble standing out without a strong leading lady.  He was always a good contrast to Sonny.  I would agree that most of his stories were unmemorable, but he was popular enough to keep around.  I think (until recently) there were always more problematic characters to get rid of and Jax was able to ride his Brenda/Jax popularity until Carly and then was able to ride that until Ingo made it impossible.  That may actually be helping your argument, but I never thought "ugh, why is Jax still here?" if that makes sense.  I was always thinking why are they using Jax so poorly instead.

The mixed marrieds was a good story and probably the best on Jax got outside Brenda/Carly.

I forgot Jax was involved with Angel as well.  That is a character GH really tried to make happen and was tied to quite a few people for no reason.  I wouldn't say she ate the show, but McTavish and JFP sure wanted to make her work.  2001 was such an odd year for the show, but it was solidly back by 2002.

I think Jax still had story consistently.  He went from Skye to Brenda to Sam to Courtney to Carly without much lull in between.   I don't think any story between Brenda to Carly was good, but he had a solid B story almost always.  I think half the reason Guza kept him around though is because he loved playing the Sonny vs. Jax/whatever woman angle.  And Ingo was popular enough to stay at the time.  Jax just never got a full characterization beyond 'white knight'.

Luke/Skye were very odd.  I don't remember hating them just wondering how it came to be. lol

Honestly I might be the only one who liked their chemistry

On this side of the pond I'd say that prime examples of characters that ate (and continue to eat) their show are Emmerdale's Cain, Charity and Debbie Dingle, together with the rest of their vile family. They have taken over this show like a disease and infected every aspect of it. Now it's rotten to the core and probably beyond salvation.... <_<

Such a sad end to a once great show.   :(
