ARTICLE: REPORT: Nick Cannon’s Talk Show Canceled After Just One Season

Nick Cannon’s foray into the daytime talk show world might soon be coming to an end just six months after the show’s debut, according to published reports.

The New York Post and The Sun are both reporting that Canon’s chatfest is being canceled after just one season with a Jennifer Hudson hosted talk show becoming his replacement. Last week it was announced that the FOX Television Stations group, which makes up the bulk of Cannon’s stations across the country, had picked up Hudson’s show for a fall 2022 launch.

With mixed reviews and paltry ratings, the show’s demise isn’t surprising. According to TVNewsCheck, “Nick Cannon” continued to average a 0.4 rating in syndicated households during the most recent week in which ratings data is available (week of February 21-25, 2022), barely above last-place finishers “The Real” (0.3 HH rating), “The Doctors” (0.2 HH rating) and reruns of “Jerry Springer” (0.3 HH rating).

“You can’t survive with those ratings. That’s Bethenny Frankle and Kris Jenner talk show rating territory- it didn’t end well for their shows either,” a source is quoted as saying to The Sun. The 0.4 rating is in line with the talk show’s performance since its September debut.

While reps for Cannon and production company Debmar-Mercury issued a “No Comment” to both The Sun and The New York Post, it’s understood that staff has yet to be officially informed of the show’s cancellation even though there’s been writing on the wall for some time with the show’s season-long struggle ratings. In fact, the Post indicates some staff was “already looking for new jobs because the outlook seemed bleak.”

One reason being cited for the talk show’s less than stellar performance is the absence of Wendy Williams whose own talk show was canceled last month, albeit for different reasons. “He was relying on Wendy to give his new show a huge lead-in audience,” an unnamed source told The Sun. “His new show follows her- and it’s the same producers. The pressure is on him to get ratings- and without a huge lead-in, he’s dead.”

While an official announcement has yet to be made, it’s understood that the show will finish out the remainder of its first season which is set to conclude later this year.

Dear Hollywood:

Stop handing out talk shows to celebs like they're free samples at Costco.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Rest of the Free World
