The Bold and the Beautiful, B&B, #BoldandBeautiful

Just weeks before “The Bold and the Beautiful” celebrates its 35th anniversary on Wednesday, March 23, CBS announced this morning that it has renewed the venerable daytime drama series for an additional two seasons, bringing it through its 37th season and remaining on the CBS schedule through the 2023-2024 broadcast season.

“For 35 years, ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ has been a cornerstone of our #1 daytime lineup,” said Margot Wain, senior vice president, daytime programs, CBS Entertainment. “Congratulations to our talented cast and crew, as well as Bradley Bell, who have made this show a creative and ratings success, and thank you to ‘B&B’s’ dedicated fans, whose passion for these characters and stories is unrivaled.”

“[Thirty-Five] years ago, I would have never imagined what was in store,” said Bell, executive producer and head writer of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” in a statement. “Since our premiere in 1987, it’s been a fantastic journey and incredible experience for all of us. We would not be here if not for the invaluable support of CBS and our millions of fans around the globe for their loyalty and support.”

In honor of the show’s anniversary, the soap will air a special standalone episode on Thursday, March 24 (originally scheduled to air on March 23 but was pushed back due to last week’s last-minute repeat) dedicated to Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and five of her true loves. Fan favorites and former cast members Jack Wagner, who played Nick Marone from 2003 to 2012, and Winsor Harmon, who played Thorne Forrester from 1996 to 2016, return for this can’t-miss episode. John McCook (Eric Forrester), Don Diamont (Bill Spencer) and Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester) are also featured.

Since its premiere on the CBS Television Network on March 23, 1987, the series has won 100 Daytime Emmy Awards and is the most-watched U.S.-produced daytime drama in the world, airing in 100 countries, with millions of viewers around the globe.

Throughout its long history, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL has racked up many impressive stats. Here is a look at 35 years by the numbers:

  • 8,734 episodes
  • 393,750 pages of dialogue memorized by the cast
  • 100 weddings…including a few that were cancelled and interrupted!
  • 23 babies born on screen
  • 1,700 sets created by the art department
  • 1,793 cans of hairspray and 415 tubes of lipstick used by B&B’s Emmy Award-winning hair and makeup departments
  • 100 Daytime Emmy Award wins; 306 nominations
  • The show has shot in 14 cities in 11 international countries.

That's too bad a preemption/repeat pushed the date out a day after the actual anniversary.

Nice picture of the current cast (where is Heather Tom?).

    • The black and white episodes of the show are very special. An atmosphere the color run loses. Dark Shadows was filmed live-on-tape. They could do a retake but it would be very expensive. I think there was a claim that if actors wanted a retake they would curse. There was also a rumor that at one point Joan Bennett accidentally said "Hollywood" instead of "Collinwood" and that necessitated a retake.

    • Loved this IG post from Ambyr about how she and Trisha work together. You can tell these ladies go above and beyond the script, and that they really trust and enjoy working together. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJpJufFPOQ2/?igsh=MXBmcWs0YzIwaXVhNA==

    • It is a shame that more characters didn't go the ATWT-Barbara route and make the ingénue into an antagonist. Sort of like they did with Liza/Hogan/Sunny, less successfully. It is a credit to ATWT's creativity that breathed life in that character for years after she was fighting off bulls in Spain.  But, a character like Liza can only have so many true loves and high jinks on the high seas.  They need another reason to be in the story. Liza's wealth, as well as her acumen to see through fraud, was fertile ground for tons of stories.  But, I feel like the business stories for Liza were always about her being easily overwhelmed, rather than exploring things like her leadership and managerial skills.
    • STFU!! Dante!!! This nonsense of blaming Gio is just ridiculous! Alexis and Lucky are becoming so unlikable. Why are the writers writing these characters so poorly?
    • Keith still comes off younger to me. I thought he wasn't that bad for his first day.
    • To be fair, they were only recently step-siblings.  Their parents married within the past few years.  And, Draper's father Ansel was not coy about the fact that he married Raven's mother, Nadine, for the money. And, Raven's sort of sticking it to April that not only can she have a baby (April has a heart condition that makes it difficult for her to carry a child to term), she could also have April's man, if she wanted him.
    • Keith D Robinson is 49. Maurice Johnson is 46.
    • I hope they give him more to do than just be a prick as you say. I can see how viewers would like him because the actor is so charming despite the character being such an absolute pain.    I would agree. And there was also the undercurrent of Raven and Draper sort of flirting with each other. The actors play that attraction and it worked so well in that scene.
    • Daniel Cosgrove is PERFECT as the sleezy politician. This might be my favorite role of his. All of these people keeping Kristina’s secret is so annoying. I really want her to pay.
