I'm rooting for Mishael in her new role. It amazes me how so many of her fans are disappointed that she's no longer Hilary and hate on Amanda and by product Mishael for it.

That’s my thought too. We were invested in Hilary (and Hilary/Devon), and she had deep relationships with other characters (Jack, Phyllis, Mariah, et al). Amanda can’t help but feel shallow in comparison. And soaps have tried the doppelgänger remedy after realizing they fücked up by killing off a popular character. It rarely works.

Almost never, certainly in the modern age (90s-onward). And I think the only reason it mostly worked with Jacob on Loving/The City is because the show seemingly barely leaned into making him different from Jesse at all. They just let Darnell Williams and Debbi Morgan loose and played ball. They also wove in the Jesse connection very strongly from Day 1 in story, as opposed to Amanda doing... whatever.

Most people refused to give Mishael a chance as Amanda. Some are intending on hating regardless. When you throw in her fans talking negatively on top of those that despised Hilary, the distaste for the character seemed overwhelming.  I'm just glad the show stuck with her during the transition instead of dropping her.

Whatever love, connection, and history we had with Hilary took time to develop. Amanda can develop the same just like any other character.

I’d love to be proven wrong about Amanda. It’s a bad sign that they don’t have any immediate plans for her newly introduced family, which was the first and only time Amanda really took fire. She says she’d “love to work with them again,” meaning the actors who play her mother and sister.

They have. Her family story was the best recieved story this show had had in at least a year.

Proven wrong about what? And why is the show possibly not having any immediate plans for her family a bad sign for it?

Granted, I think the show has something with Amanda and Imani as rivals with Naya I'm the middle mediating. I hope that's where we are heading. I won't hold my breath though. Still, there are plenty stories to tell for blank slate Amanda.

Amanda is as viable as hilary long  term though. At least I think so. You don't?

We don't know very much about Sharon's family either and yet she's been around for 20 something years. I don't think Amanda's family needs to be on the show to make her viable. It'd be nice though. But it's not make or break. Hilary's family wasn't on the canvas either.

Y&R clearly cared about Sharon as a (future) lead of the show and paired with a Newman scion. And we did have her mother Doris as a consistent presence in the early years. I don’t see the same level of investment in Amanda. Hilary certainly could have been viable long term. That the show brought MM shows that Y&R knew they screwed up by killing her off. It’s harder for Amanda because she exists in Hilary’s shadow.

One reason why I’m not optimistic is that Y&R is currently written week to week. Very few stories gain momentum.

Seems to me the show is as committed to Amanda as a lead as they were Hilary though. I get that existing in Hilary's shadow hampers her.  But I believe that overtime, Amanda will overtake Hilary. If I can get over Hilary isn't coming back then I'm sure others can. I see a big difference in how viewers feel about the character after this current story. I wish the show would continue it. I'm hoping that TPTB saw that and picks up the thread.

    • I absolutely loved the last few episodes—devoured them! If Trisha and Ambyr’s performances aren’t Emmy-worthy, I don’t know what is. I wasn’t bothered by the lawyer girl not being at the gala from the start, or the grandkids being absent, or Vanessa being MIA. It just goes to show how unnecessarily huge the Dupree family is. And like Toups said, you can’t cram the entire cast into a single episode. Minor nitpicks: Yeah, Ted seriously needs a recast—been saying that since day one. I still don’t know where he stands, and he just comes off as a generic nice guy. Not having Ted and Bill share a single scene since the show started? Huge missed opportunity. And not having Leslie get anywhere near Bill in one of her wigs? Another big miss. It really weakened the impact of her big reveal about Bill’s involvement. Now it just feels a bit like fan fiction. I’m totally confused by Vanessa and Doug’s “arrangement.” One moment it seems like they’re in an open relationship, and the next Vanessa acts completely shocked when Doug so much as hints at her “distractions.” Huh? Can anyone explain what’s going on there?
    • You’d think he would’ve learned after the way Sprina took off.  I hope we get a proper Emma/Gio/Trina/Kai quad, as friends, romantic rivals, etc. In the few scenes that the four of them have had together, I felt like there was a natural chemistry between all of them, similar to the way that Cam/Spencer/Trina/Joss was, in the beginning.  And, it would be a lot better than all this stuff with Kai’s surgery.
    • Hooray we made the exact same critique to Londonscribe!!!!!
    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
