It’s the beginning of the end folks. “Days of our Lives” star Freddie Smith recently revealed that fans will be saying goodbye to his character, Sonny Kiriakis, sometime in September.

“I remember shooting today’s ‘DAYS’ scenes and got me thinking about how many episodes Sonny has left to air,” said Smith in a tweet posted on April 27. “I’m not 100% sure but looking through my emails, [it] looks like 36 more episodes between now and sometime in September! So you got more Sonny Days ahead.”

As you’ll recall, Smith and co-star Chander Massey (Will Horton) announced in February that they had been let go from the show, and only learned of their ouster from the scripts they were receiving when they returned to the Burbank studio where the show is filmed after an extended hiatus.

“I know it’s a bit shocking, but it’s true. Will and Sonny’s last episode is projected to air September 18th, 2020,” said Smith at the time. “I want to personally thank all the fans who have supported this incredible love story over the years. I am so grateful to everyone at ‘Days of our Lives,’ from cast to crew, and up the ladder for giving me a shot to portray Sonny Kirakis.”

“Wish it weren’t coming to an end, but I will be forever grateful to everyone who went on this journey with us,” said Massey.

It’s understood that the characters will leave the canvas together. At this time it’s unclear what circumstances force the pair out of Salem, however.
