People tend to forget that this is show BUSINESS. The way soaps are built, no actor is indispensable. Did DAYS suffer when AS/JS left? Absolutely, but it didn't fold. Even Y&R was willing to part with EB and MTS at different points, but both returned at a lower salary.

Because we only have 4 soaps, they are all loaded with vets - so dropping a couple of older, popular actors isn't going to make that much difference. I think B&B proved that when the 'annual': Will SF stay or retire? She left and the show refocused and has been pretty consistent in ratings.

Really? It seems to me all they do is extend their bad storylines. Granted, they haven't had a good storyline to extend for years and years so maybe that's why Brad Bell has become a little confused and continously extends his bad ones.....   :P

Ha. We definitely agree about Brad's overall storytelling, but they dropped stories like Brooke's alcoholism, which was set to be a major story, in just a few weeks, which sidelined KKL for nearly a year. The same thing happened with the Nicole as surrogate P.2 + the weird attachment to Lizzy (trashing Maya for focusing on her career), which went from every day to a 180 where she changed her mind about the surrogacy, forgave Zende for cheating and suddenly Nicole and Maya were good in just a couple of weeks posing as models at the pool. That was like whiplash. DAYS just can't do that and it's a shame.
