No one's telling you how to live your life But it's a setup until you're fed up It's no good when you're misunderstood But why should I care What the world thinks of me? Won't let a stranger Give me a social disease

Living here forever, the thing that annoys me about the term “SoCAL Strong”, or any of its predecessors like “Vegas Strong”, or “Philly Strong” is that it tries to be location specific.

However, the truth is that most people want to help each other regardless of where they live.  It has nothing to do with urban pride.  We are just conditioned to think that those around us are dangerous or judgmental by what we see on TV.  But, when put to the test, most humans band together for a common cause.

Apathy is learned, empathy is natural.

I agree with this.
I remember that the idea got popularized with "Boston Strong" after the Boston Marathon bombing.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Strong
which in some ways, was illogical, since the marathon runners were from all over the world.

I briefly lived in the Boston area long ago...  I live far far away now.
But when I first heard "Boston Strong", it didn't surprise me... it fits with part of the psyche of that city that cannot be explained logically, it just fits the working class locals.
I do remember the sweatshirt designers mentioned in the wikipedia article.
I think the locals felt that the city had been attacked so they wanted to close ranks, claim strength, etc.

--- Nevertheless the marathon runners and family members watching who were injured, they experienced a more compassionate type of Boston Strong energy -- all the medical facilities that gave them whatever care could be given, and all the fundraisers to help.

    • Daphnee's performance very much reminded me of Anna Holbrook's on Another World when Sharlene was dealing with John and Felicia's affair. Angry but well controlled and believable. A good start for an Emmy reel. If there is one thing an evil Black mother is going to do, it is lock you out the house. Eva shouldn't have even bothered to go home.  Leslie calling Martin "Mr. President" was interesting. How much exactly does she know about the family and has someone higher up sent her to cause trouble? Anita's speech to Leslie was dignified like Geraldine Whitney (EON) or Kim Hughes (ATWT) would have gone off on somebody.
    • Thanks for posting this, fascinating read. It's clear how ambivalent Wyndham is about Justine. IMO, it reads like she agrees that the end of the storyline was bad, but reading between the lines I think she thought she was doing good work for the meat of it....which was not the case. As bad as the writing for most of that story was, it was truly made worse by her embarrassing performance. After the story concluded she kept falling back into Justine ticks, when she wasn't phoning he scenes in. Not to play Freud, but was it to tr*ll her critics?
    • I better hear "The Emmy goes to Ambyr Michelle" come Emmy time lol

    • I love this more than any theory I've seen yet
    • I wonder what Dana and Hayley's first scene will be like. Dana has fear/contempt for Bill, but I can imagine Hayley being curious to meet her.
    • Daphne was just FANTASTIC today. I know people wanted histronics and it may still come but she was pitch perfect today. As much as I like Maurice she's gonna need someone just as strong now and it's just not him
    • Today's episode was one of my favorites so far! TT's Anita standing up to Dana was perfect. I was surprised with how restrained Dani was, in some scenes, I forgot she was there. The ending "Amazing Grace" montage was brilliant. I like how Vernon's reason complements Anita's emotion. DD was terrific portraying her mixed sense of betrayal and humiliation. I liked her comment about how she condescended to Dani after her breakup with Bill, unaware that she was also married to a cheater. I am going to miss MJ as Ted and I don't agree with the criticisms of his acting. His conduct on social media is a different story. I agree that BC's Martin has come into his own. He and MM have also discovered some chemistry which allows them portray a believable couple. Eva is the most empathetic character for me. Seeing get locked out of the apartment was heartbreaking. I also liked that the writing for Kat has been much more nuanced than one might have expected just weeks ago. I liked the expression on Kat's face at the end when she was embracing Nicole. Kat has probably never seen her calm, poised mother so upset. CM's face portrayed a sense of discomfort now that the carer/child roles have been somewhat reversed. I believe now more than ever that Kat is Ted and Dana's child. Eva is Ted and Nicole's child. Dana switched them as insurance - if Bill came after her to take or harm Eva, Dana would reveal that Eva was actually a Dupree, giving her some protection. She would also be secure in the fact that her birth daughter Kat was ensconced in the privilege and security of the Dupree family. The way Dana raised Eva - "weaponizing" her instead of nurturing her as a loving mother - also aligns with this theory.
