Members Bright Eyes
http://decider.com/2016/01/14/dear-academy-heres-what-a-completely-nonwhite-set-of-acting-nominees-could-look-like/ An article about what a potentially non-white set of acting nominees could look like. Here's who I'm rooting for: Best Picture: MAD MAX: FURY ROAD. And though it wouldn't change my mind on the winner, Straight Outta Compton should have been nominated. Lead Actress: Brie Larson or Saoirse Ronan. I am happily surprised to see Charlotte Rampling get a nomination, but it is apparent that Jennifer Lawrence is the most undeserving nomination of the year. Lead Actor: I am a fan of all the actors nominated, but both male acting categories leave a lot to be desired this year. Of those nominated, I guess I'll choose Matt Damon based on performance. Leo winning would be a great moment, but there is no uncertainty in saying it will be nothing more than a career Oscar win. I also believe Steve Jobs should have been shut out completely in the major categories, so I would easily replace Michael Fassbender, and would even replace Eddie Redmayne as well. I happily rooted for Redmayne to victory last year, but his nomination is plagued by the film taking too many liberties from the strength of the true person behind the title character and my opinion that Alicia Vikander outshined him. With those two slots open, one would easily be filled by Michael B. Jordan, who would have been by number one choice had he been nominated. Supporting Actress: Jennifer Jason Leigh! With me being divided on lead actress, Leigh is who I'm unabashedly rooting for the most this year. I must also show Canadian pride for the always wonderful Rachel McAdams as well. Like I previously stated, Kate Winslet could have been replaced without much upset. Alicia Vikander was a must nomination, even if it would have been cooler if she was nominated for Ex Machina instead. The Carol nominations (Blanchett and Mara) were expected, and they do deserve their place, but they are playing to lose this year. And lose they better! However, both their spots could have been replaced with more diverse nominations without a cry from me. Supporting Actor: Tom Hardy, please and thank you. Very strange that he was snubbed from the BAFTA nominations. I've read Mark Rylance get constant praise, so good for him, though I'm unaware of his work. Mark Ruffalo, as big of a fan of his that I am, should have been replaced by one of his other two Spotlight co-stars, Michael Keaton or Liev Schreiber. Idris Elba is a travesty of a snub. He should have been a potential front-runner, no doubt. Christian Bale, as great as he is, should have been left out here and replaced. Some say by Steve Carrell, but again, another slot for diversity should have been highly considered. Best Director: Adam McKay should have been replaced by Ridley Scott. No brainer. Still, George Miller for the win, please. Original Song: That "See You Again" wasn't nominated, as it should be winning this category, is a shame. Sam Smith's boring and greatly panned James Bond theme had no right being nominated. A strange choice for the academy to let 50 Shades of Grey become an Oscar nominated film. Animated Feature: I'm hoping for Inside Out, but will be happy if Anomalisa pulls out an upset. Writing: Happy to see Aaron Sorkin was left out as Steve Jobs was very underwhelming. Maybe it will humble him ... probably not though.
