POLLY PRENTICE

         Cathy Ferrar   12/1/1966 -  3/9/1967

           Polly arrives to check on her ill father, John, and reveals that she is in love with a married man, her art teacher Bob Chandler. They take a ski trip for New Years. Jessie warns Polly about her father's health. She is delighted to learn Jessie and John are engaged, and decides it is time to move into an apartment.  John receives a call from Cheryl Chandler that she will sue Polly for alienation of affection if a divorce occurs. John warns Polly about Mrs. Chandler's threat. Polly moves to Chicago to break free from Bob's mess.

          Jennifer Billingsley   6/22/1967 - 3/10/1969

               Polly returns and stays with Jessie while her Dad recovers. Jessie asks Tom Baldwin (who is more than slightly interested in Mrs. Brewer himself) to entertain Polly. They head to the beach, and upon their return, Tom lets Jessie know Polly is a sweet kid, but he only has eyes for her!  Polly makes a play for Tom and gets a job as a Nurses' Aide. She reveals he is the only one that understands her -- kissing him. He doesn't kiss her back.

              Realizing that Tom is only interested in Jessie, Polly begins to truly resent Jessie. Tom joins Polly while she hunts for an apartment (though he'd rather be anywhere else).  After Polly reveals Tom's interest in her father's love, John has a heart attack. Jessie comforts Polly. Polly thinks a marriage between Jessie and John is ridiculous, but finally agrees to be the Maid of Honor. The women quarrel over Jessie moving into "her" house, and she tells Jessie all about her mother.

               Dr. John Prentice has changed his will!  Everything will now go to Jessie, and Polly is far from pleased! He asks Polly to get him the medicine for his Bursitis from his doctor's bag.  She later brings him more pills. The next morning, "Sarge" AKA Nurse Lucille Weeks finds Dr. John Prentice DOA.  John died of a Barbiturate and Alkaloids. After learning the autopsy results, Polly quizzes Tom if her Dad would have known what medicinal combinations  would react in his body.  Lieutenant Todd of the local Police Department interrogates Polly, and Lee warns Jessie not to tell Polly that she planned to give Polly the inheritance.  Polly has nightmares about John's death. She tells Lt. Todd that Dr. Tom Baldwin squired her around as a favor to Jessie.

                It's Christmas week, 1967 and Polly is feeling like giving. She gives all the information she can to Lt. Todd and District Attorney Chase Murdock  - about Tom's love for Jessie.  Entering into 1968, D.A. Murdock continues to question Polly. He tells Lt. Todd not to let either Jessie or Tom leave town.  Tom and Jessie are arrested for murder! Polly is intrigued to learn that a conviction can overturn John's will.   After testifying for the prosecutor and being questioned by Lee Baldwin.   Phil has taken an interest in Polly -- Jessie and Tom are convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years in jail each!.

                    Polly has again been having nightmares. Learning that John had Bursitis and took medications for it, Phil questions Polly and she confesses that she had brought John pills. She goes to the prosecutor and signs an affidavit --  Jessie and Tom are freed!! Phil begs the Judge for leniency on Polly's behalf. The judge reprimands her, and Jessie reminds her they are family.  Phil proposes to Jessie (Doesn't she ever learn?) and she agrees.  Phil escorts Polly to the Intern's Dance that Steve and Jessie are chaperoning. Following the wedding, Polly heads to Greenwich Village to be with former art teacher/lover Bob Chandler.  Phil convinces Polly to come back to town with him. She becomes a volunteer so good old Phil can "keep an eye on her". Tom Baldwin refuses Phil''s request to be nice to Polly.

                      There's a new intern in town. His name is Dr. Bruce Williams. He takes Polly out to lunch, Polly tells Phil she needs a man like him, not a boy like Bruce.  Polly starts to take a new Art Class with businessman Howie Dawson. Polly brings Howie home, leaving Phil irate. Polly doesn't click with people her own age. Howie soon quits the class, and Phil tells Jessie that Polly has become the third wheel in their relationship. Then he kisses Polly!!!

Polly reveals to Bruce that she loves a married man. After Phil rejects her, she goes parking with Bruce. Of course, fickle Phil is outraged. Bruce reveals Polly's love is a married man.  Polly throws herself at Phil  -- and then Bruce!!!  Jessie invites her to New Year's dinner, but Polly refuses. Bruce let's her have it while she's crying over a torn picture of Phil.

                It's January 10, 1969, and Polly is in for a surprise. She is pregnant!!!   She tells Phil and asks him, and later Tom Baldwin to help her get an abortion. (Remember it's a few years prior to Roe v. Wade). She even asks Jessie to help her. Her next move is threatening Phil that she'll say he's the father. After Phil reveals Polly's desperation to Jessie, Polly approaches Jessie about filing suit against Phil for paternity. Polly writes in her diary that she has hired Dennis Y. Dennison to take the case.  Phil explains that he'll never allow her to have an abortion. Polly takes pills, but flight or  fight goes the way of fight, and she calls Phil for help. He drags her out the door. It's March 10, 1969 and Phil and Polly have crashed. Polly is pronounced dead. D. A Murdock and Lieutenant Todd wish to discover the father of the dead child...

    Head trauma did her in, but that could have been the result of the accident.  Phil's fingerprints are on the bottle of pills Polly took and the D. A.  and Lt. Todd think that Phil just wanted to be rid of Polly and the baby.     To be continued...

Gwen Miller Delon...Barbara Babcock...June - August 76...arrived from SF for a reconciliation with  Chris as he had lead her to believe that he was having an affair (to protect her from his mob involvement) Fell ill and Chris discovered she was terminal. Gwen found out was angry that Chris had hidden this from her and planned to leave town alone, Jo convinced Gwen that Chris was genuine in wanting to help her. Left with Chris to live out her remaining years.

Logan Field as Jim Bradley, editor of the Bay City News, daily newspaper for Bay City, will appear in every episode, introducing each and playing an active part in each. Episodes will be based on the stories that lie behind local items in the newspaper reporting the activities of the city.

Mark Roberts replaced Logan Field as lead character Nov 14 1955 and appeared in all subsequent stories.

I would assume actors in different stories were playing the same characters.
