Members Mr. Vixen
Rosamund Pike isn't gonna win lol. If it's anyone other than Moore, it'll be Jones most likely.
Members Bright Eyes
The first part I disagree with, but is acceptable. The second is absolute rubbish (said with love!). I don't hate Cucumber Snatch by any means, but him winning over Keaton, Redmayne or even Timothy Spall, would be a travesty. Vix, I think Jennifer Aniston being nominated is a joke. Kind of like when the Golden Globes nominated Julia Roberts a few years back for that movie no one remembers, Aniston has only been nominated so she'll show up and help the ratings. Members Mr. Vixen
I agree - this is Redmayne or Keaton's, absolutely! Cucumber Snatch (LOL!) is good, but this is not his year. Have you seen Cake yet? I haven't, but I have heard good things. I'm happy to see her nominated but we shall see. Honestly she or Swank are my pics for the 5th slot, but I'll be happy either way really.
Members AdelaideCate007
My husband, my sister, and I are all SAG voters, my brother in law helps do screenings and press involving the Golden Globes/HFPA, and my mother in law works is a producer at one of the studios' branch down here and votes for another awards show and every single one of us has been swamped in Jennifer Aniston/Cake FYC stuff. My mother in law got cupcakes sent to her from a baker spelling out Cake. My husband got chosen to be on the nominee committee this year and we got so much Jennifer Aniston swag that it's ridiculous. I've already gotten an email today making sure I had a screener to watch. I just watched the movie like an hour ago and she's actually very good. She's better than any of the other alternatives (granted I haven't seen Marion Cotillard yet and I just got my invite to the Chastain/Eleanor Rigby screening which is now getting a campaign). If she gets in, she'd be more than deserving. That being said, its gonna be Julianne Moore. Everyone I know is voting for her and wants her to win. Gone Girl has lost heaps of momentum. As for Watts, I'm almost positive she only got in because they didn't get screeners for Jessica Chastain/A Most Violent Year out till literally the day before nominations were due for both SAG and GG and we still haven't gotten ones for Selma. Chastain will most likely be the nominee at the Oscars (replacing Watts) whiles Duvall will probably get knocked out by Tom Wilkinson in supporting. Members Bright Eyes
I do want to say, I don't begrudge Aniston of her nomination as long as the right person wins, which will never be her under any circumstances. With Addie's post (where the hell have you been, anyway?!?) it's clear she's had a great push by whatever studio made Cake and that can really make a difference. And in regards to screeners being late, I read on p.tv today that the SAG awards had the same issue regarding Christoph Waltz and Django Unchanined, where he wasn't even nominated, but ended up winning the Oscar. As for Rosamund Pike, this could be complete crap, but with Reese Witherspoon's company producing both Gone Girl and Wild, I wonder if Reese is just using more of the promotion budget to push herself for an Oscar, hurting Pike's chances in the process. Members Mr. Vixen
The backhanded shade in that bolded sentence is epic. I bow down to you. Interesting theory about Pike/Witherspoon…I always got the vibe Reese wanted that Gone Girl role for herself (partially because she has kind of said as much). Funnily enough, before I even knew she was producing the movie, she was one of my top picks (my first choice was Charlize). But Pike was great, and definitely deserving of the nom. But this needs to be Julianne's year. And if there is an upset (which will piss me off to no end), it has to be Jones' (who is wonderful, but will have many more opportunities to be wonderful). Members Bright Eyes
I think with Jones, the praise for Redmayne rightly outshining her, will hurt her chances. All I'm hoping for is an Oscar nomination that will raise her profile. I also want to add that I would still be pleased if Ethan Hawke manages to score an upset over JK Simmons, who is my front runner, for Boyhood. In fact, as a presumably unpopular opinion, I believe he (plus Linklater and Delpy) should have won best screenplay over 12 Years a Slave last year. I know I should base my opinion on individual films, but I really can't think of another trilogy of films that have been such exquisite perfection all throughout and everyone knows a movie like 12 Years is much more reliant on the performances anyway. Members AllMyDaysatGH
I'm so crushed Homeland didn't get a best drama nod. It's been other worldly; But at least Claire still got hers. YES! Go Ava or Alejandro for Best Director. I'm still upset he didn't win for "Babel" a few years ago (my favorite film of all time). Scorsese beat him out but Babel still got Best Picture. I'd love to see him finally get a Globe for directing but It's very unlikely. Ava winning would just be gorgeous to witness. Happy for all the Gone Girl nominations. If anything, I need for them to at least get Best Score. The "Gone Girl" score is still stuck with me months after hearing it. It's perfection. Members DRW50
The Golden Globes yet again prove their irrelevance through chasing hype. Brooklyn 99 gets nominations and wins last year because it was a hot new critical favorite, and this year it gets nothing. Unless the quality has fallen off a cliff, I find that hard to believe. They'll always be the Pia Zadora Awards to me.
Members Bright Eyes
Whoever got snubbed, can we all just have a moment to praise Modern Family finally getting NOTHING! And a big ass whoa! to a CW show getting two major nominations. I despise the Musical or Comedy film categories. So stupid.
