Of ALL the incredible "let's never let Carly not manipulate the situation" stories ATWT did over the years, the one story I really wish they'd have played out was when Carly got sick and thought she was dying. I was fine with it up until the part where Carly learned she was misdiagnosed and kept it all to herself. I think it would have been a much better story had Jack's devotion to helping Carly simply carried on past the news of the misdiagnosis and he realized his marriage to Katie had been entirely for the wrong reasons. He could have still cheated on Katie (which, honestly, still gives me a chuckle every time I think about it..AWESOME!) but it would have been all about his feelings, and not simply that Carly manipulated him into bed while poor, understanding Katie was waiting for him at "home" (which was never more than a small Lakeview room anyway).
