Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame 2014 Nominees

About damn time that they nominated the fabulousness that are Daryl Hall and John Oates. Peter Gabriel and Chic getting nods is the cherry on top of this sundae:

(CNN) -- "Teen Spirit" and "Good Times" may be coming to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- sealed with a KISS.

Grunge groundbreakers Nirvana, disco dynamos Chic and the costume-clad, Gene Simmons-led pop metal band KISS are among 16 nominees up for election in the museum's Class of 2014. The deep selection also includes '70s and '80s hitmakers Hall and Oates; college radio heroes the Replacements; New Orleans funkmeisters the Meters; sweet-voiced Linda Ronstadt; and pioneering gangsta rappers N.W.A.

Completing the list: the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, LL Cool J, Cat Stevens, Link Wray, Yes and the Zombies.

This year's nominees are not bad, although have they completely abandoned anyone from the first era of Rock and Roll.... the 50's? The two biggest glaring omissions from the 50's (and they are still alive) is Neil Sedaka and Connie Francis.

Isn't the best chance of being inducted the first year they are eligible? They only induct like 5 acts that are nominated a year, which means that anyone who doesn't go in has less and less of a chance each successive year as there is more competition and relatively little to no spots. We are in 2013 now, if they haven't gotten in after 30 or so years I would say they never will be.

I wouldn't say that.. Neil Diamond just got in last year, as well as Darlene Love, and they started recording in the 60's.

It would be great if they included Linda Ronstadt considering her health issues. She will never sing again, so they should honor her as a tribute to her career.

OMG that is a crime! Hasn't she been eligible for a good ten to 15 years now? mad.gif

I can't come up with any excuse to keep excluding her .... An amazing body of work: check; a shelf full of Grammys: check; one of the most extraordinary set of vocal pipes any female singer has EVER show cased: check.

Paul Anka is another notable snub from rock's first decade. The sad truth is that none of these three great performers will likely ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame, since so much time has passed. I honestly think the reason for these snubs is because rock elitists hate any performer that was classified as a "teen idol" (even though many teen idols were very talented). The only teen idols (that I am aware of) that were ever inducted into the Hall of Fame were Ricky Nelson and Bobby Darin, but I suspect that neither of them would be there had they not died at young ages.

Who here has been to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? I am from Cleveland, but now only spend my summers in that area, but have never been there! I do plan to get there some day.
