Aww that's too bad. Did you expect Cecil to be written differently?

My favorite part of the movie was the evolution of Louis and Cecil's relationship. David Oyelowo is Louis? I hope to see in many things to come.

Agreed about Oprah being great in it. I thought she'd never act again after the fuckery known as Beloved.

I really liked it. I love Oprah, and even I was impressed with her in this. I didnt really see Oprah as much as her character.

I found most of the actors cast did a great job. Liev Schreiber as LBJ, Marsden as Kennedy were really good.

thought the movie was strong. A great movie and very interesting.

I just don't understand what I was supposed to feel about the actual butler. We have seen countless movies about the civil rights movemnt and things related to it, so to see this thru the butler's eyes and tenure at the White House just didn't move me. I didn't care because I don't feel a significant connection was made. I also don't believe Daniels found the main plot and stuck to it. I'm still trying to figure out what this movie was about. Should we have gotten more of the butler w/in the WH? Should we have seen him as more than just a butler - mentally/emotionally? I didn't feel the heart of the butler as I wanted to. FW is a terrific actor, and I believe he was shortchanged here. I'm with you. They went for "big" but didn't get there because they didn't exactly know what they were going for.

I'd like to see Oprah doing more movies because she was the highlight for me, and Yaya's fro, of course!

That fro was impressive and you definitely hit the nail on the head the more I think about the movie. The scenes in the White House were very lackluster in terms of emotional draw or impact. Aside from JFK and Johnson I didn't see much of a role that "The Butler" played in influencing those events (directly or indirectly). To make it worse we didn't really get any kinda insight into the range of emotions he was feeling while in those scenarios.

The movie made it seem like he saw the inequities and just took it because he had no choice and was so traumatized by the horrific events that occurred with his parents at the beginning (I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone but I seriously got chills when that ish went down....). Mariah Carey was actually pretty good there.

I think what could have done wonders for the movie is if they had shown some scenes of FW struggling with his emotions and the situation that he was in with his son.

    • I've seen Jason interact with Mitch and annoy him. That's as far as I recall. I didn't even have a slight idea that Evan had a vendetta against Rachel... That came as a surprise to me. I thought Evan was Iris's dog and that's it. Now he's definitely more interesting.
    • Thanks for these. I can't recall -- did Evan's vendetta have any position on Mitch, or was it all about Rachel? @Maxim have you seen any Frames intreracting with Mitch in any way?
    • Thank you for the tag! It's always a pleasure to see these little pearls of memories.
    • Uh-oh. Today just might’ve been the first Paula/Jeanne stinker. I have a feeling whose fault that might be though. So, Doug III is getting a job at the Pub?  It’s good to see him interact with other characters. I enjoyed his scenes with Roman, even though the talk of Frankie and Max seemed a little random. And it also could be really interesting now that Tate knows. Days really need to start pushing their rivalry again. We need some follow up from the punch. Tying it all to Holly, to Sophia’s pregnancy, to the guys that Doug III owes money to could be good.  But yeah, wayyy too much Leo again in today’s episode. Seriously, has anything changed with this nothing character? I thought it was all Ron’s fault, but maybe Greg Rikaart is (partially) responsible for Leo being so insufferable.  And yeah seriously, Rafe needs to throw all of these people out of his house. Including Gabi

But I do wonder who’s the mysterious voice that Gabi overheard with EJ on the night he was shot. Based on yesterday’s episode, I have a suspicion.
    • Add me to the group of people who think that Brandon has improved. He has. There's no doubt about it. Especially compared to the beginning. And he's improving in a way that... it makes me think that he realizes what the issues are and is addressing them. Of course, he's no master of acting at this point... but I don't cringe as much as I did. And I've seen people in Bold... I won't even have to name names, because everyone knows who they are... who are becoming even worse than what they were offering in the first place. So... I'm happy that in BTG... people are actually blossoming and improving. It surely means that the atmosphere is creative and nurturing talent.  BUT and it's a big butt... his relationship with his husband is still so lacking and ghastly. I am craving to see more action from these guys. I want to see Smitty's character. If he has any.
    • Thank you. You guys come to the rescue again. I'll take a look later.   Thank you for the info!!! Now I find myself less confused. You and @DRW50 are amazing.
    • I know Passions used this trope with Ethan and Sam to drag out the paternity, but GH seems to speed through certain stories while dragging others.
    • For any other soap, I think I’d agree, but GH, I don’t know

    • Agreed, that there was some strange choices in the episode, especially at the end, but overall, that was some great drama that opens up the potential for so much future storyline. Kat vs. Eva having the most potential, especially over Tomas. I have mixed feelings about Martin/BC though. I thought he did pretty well in scenes with Smitty/MM, but the scenes of him confronting Leslie and of him throwing the books were bad lol she acted circles around him.  It’s similar to what Harding Lemay said about George Reinholt at AW; he could be brilliant in one scene, but then mediocre in the next.
