Members vote4llama
I just came across a site that has a handful of episodes from these South African soaps. I think they are all in Afrikaans. Binnelanders and Egoli have English subtitles. I've watched two episodes of Binnelanders and its pretty good so far. Binnelanders: <object width="536" height="400" data="http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.1.swf?0.6494315112940967" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="movie" value="http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.1.swf?0.6494315112940967" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="flashvars" value='config={"key":"$ab1b8ab2830a17b7605","playlist":[{"url":"http://qa.impi.tv/Content/impi/images/mn_binne_20090504_2_2_300k.jpg","autoPlay":true,"scaling":"orig"},{"url":"longformat/binnelanders/MN_binne_20090504_2_2_300k","autoPlay":false,"scaling":"orig","provider":"akamai"}],"plugins":{"akamai":{"url":"http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.rtmp-3.1.0.swf","netConnectionUrl":"rtmp://cp73514.edgefcs.net/ondemand/"},"controls":{"autoHide":"always"}},"clip":{}}' /></object> Egoli: <object width="536" height="400" data="http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.1.swf?0.23410881613381207" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="movie" value="http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.1.swf?0.23410881613381207" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="flashvars" value='config={"key":"$ab1b8ab2830a17b7605","playlist":[{"url":"http://qa.impi.tv/Content/impi/images/mn_egoli_20090907_1_1_700ki.jpg","autoPlay":true,"scaling":"orig"},{"url":"longformat/egoli/MN_egoli_20090907_1_1_300k","autoPlay":false,"scaling":"orig","provider":"akamai"}],"plugins":{"akamai":{"url":"http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.rtmp-3.1.0.swf","netConnectionUrl":"rtmp://cp73514.edgefcs.net/ondemand/"},"controls":{"autoHide":"always"}},"clip":{}}' /></object> Villa Rosa: <object width="536" height="400" data="http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.1.swf?0.4265164299868047" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="movie" value="http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.commercial-3.1.1.swf?0.4265164299868047" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="flashvars" value='config={"key":"$ab1b8ab2830a17b7605","playlist":[{"url":"http://qa.impi.tv/Content/impi/images/kn_villa_20090826_1_1_700k-.jpg","autoPlay":true,"scaling":"orig"},{"url":"longformat/villarosa/KN_villa_20090826_1_1_300k","autoPlay":false,"scaling":"orig","provider":"akamai"}],"plugins":{"akamai":{"url":"http://qa.impi.tv/flash/flowplayer.rtmp-3.1.0.swf","netConnectionUrl":"rtmp://cp73514.edgefcs.net/ondemand/"},"controls":{"autoHide":"always"}},"clip":{}}' /></object>
Members DRW50
Thanks!! This is great. I have always wanted to see the evil bisexual man on Egoli who went from being in a happy gay relationship to gunning people down and hitting on waitresses. I went to a site which seemed to have the episodes, and there were a few more Egoli. How many are there? I typed in Egoli in the site's search but it said something about not looking because of a possible cross client attack or something.
Members vote4llama
If you click on TV, there should be "popular shows" on the right. The search doesn't work for me either. Are we allowed to post links? I think there are about 85 episodes.
Members DRW50
Don't worry about the extra links - I can work that out and we don't have to post any more. Thanks again for finding this.
Members AdelaideCate007
Any Binnelanders and Villa Rosa are going to be about 95% in Afrikaans, there's going to be very little (if any) English. Egoli was definitely more bilingual. CarlD2- I'm not sure if you know this, but Cherel from Isidingo is on Binnelanders as well (or at least she was, I'm not sure if she still is) Since there are no subtitles on the Villa Rosa episodes, I could help out with the general plots and the characters' names if anybody needs that
Members DRW50
That type of help would be great! Just a basic overview. Cherel went back to Isidingo in 2010, apparently.
Members AdelaideCate007
I figured she'd gone back because the last time I was in South Africa visiting I watched Isidingo and she was on there. I'll watch that episode later this afternoon and take note of the story lines and write down who's who.
Members DRW50
Did you get to see the Egoli story where the hunky gay character Braam fell in love with a woman (I think her name was Marcelle)? There was apparently fan backlash over this and the show had him go back to his boyfriend, Krynauw. Yet a few years later the show went ahead with turning Krynauw into a psycho, and Braam's only story being marrying Jane, who then conned him that he was the father of her baby. I wonder if fans had stopped caring or if ratings had fallen enough that they just went with a shock value plot.
