When did soaps stop using popular Music in scenes?

Brenda's "death" montage to the tune of I Will Remember You was - hands down - the best musical montage that I've ever seen on GH. A great song for a great character made for a great send-off that remains powerful almost 15 years later (if even Brenda turned up alive laugh.png ).

My favorite song-to-scene will always be Mac disowning Iris to the iconic sounds of Luba ("Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry").

ATWT used older popular music sometimes in its last five years, like Barbara and Henry dancing to Last Dance. I remember there was also a bachelor party where the stripper danced to some early 80s funk music, which I thought was hilarious.

Here is a scene from Y&R circa 1986, I thought that worked so well and I wish music was used like that more in soaps.

Granted the performances in the scene were not stellar, but still, I could see what they were doing with the use of the song and I like it.
