Eurovision songs of the past

  • Member

What are your favorites? Which ones should have won? Which ones won but didn't deserve to? Also... were there any finalists from individual countries which never made it to the contest, which you feel should have? By researching Eurovision entries, I ahve found SO MANY songs i've never heard before that I truly LOVE. My favorite of all of them is this one, and i'm totally hacked off that I can't seem to find it on CD in any form!

Slovenia 1996, Regina - "Dan najlepsih sanj"

I HATE that 1972 Dutch entry like you wouldn't believe. His suit actually has ric-rac around the lapel? We used to make crafts out of that stuff in vacation bible school! LOL I think her dress is lovely, however. She's quite a good singer, with a decent song, she'd be really good. Edit.... I just looked, and yes, there is some much better stuff there of them. This is great, and her voice is quite impressive:

Today's theme is geography. All songs featured today have the name of a place in its title.

Finland 1977, Monica Aspelund - "Lapponia"

Netherlands 1980, Maggie MacNeal - "Amsterdam"

Sweden 1963, Monica Zetterlund - "En gång i Stockholm"

France 1993, Patrick Fiori - "Mama Corsica"

Italy 1984, Alice & Franco Battiato - "I treni di Tozeur"

Today's theme is girl groups. No songs from the 50s and 60s today, because groups were not permitted to enter until the early 1970s.

Israel 1976, Chocolate Menta Mastik - "Emor Shalom"

Switzerland 2005, Vanilla Ninja - "Cool vibes"

Ireland 1981, Sheeba - "Horoscopes"

Spain 2006, Las Ketchup - "Bloody Mary"

United Kingdom 1984, Belle & The Devotions - "Love games"

Since yesterday's theme was girl groups I guess it comes as no surprise that today is all about boy bands! Well, at least bands consisting only of boys/men. tongue.png

Switzerland 1977, Pepe Lienhard Band - "Swiss lady"

Germany 1993, Münchener Freiheit - "Viel zu weit"

Serbia & Montenegro 2005, No Name - "Zauvijek Moja"

Belgium 1980, Telex - "Eurovision"

Latvia 2000, Brainstorm - "My star"

Sandra Reemer represented the Netherlands on two further occasions in the ESC, but without Andres.

1976 - "The party's over now"

1979 - "Colorado" (as a member of Xandra Group)

Tonight's the night! Le Grand Finale! We will find out who this year's winner of the Eurovision Song Contest is. Whoever it is will then join the ever-growing list of winners that includes unforgettable songs and artists such as these:

United Kingdom 1967, Sandie Shaw - "Puppet on a string"

France 1977, Marie Myriam - "L'oiseau et l'enfant"

(West) Germany 1982, Nicole - "Ein bißchen Frieden"

Ireland 1992, Linda Martin - "Why me"

and the perhaps most famous winner of them all.....

Sweden 1974, ABBA - "Waterloo"

I am glad for Sweden's win. Their presentation was tremendous. Very original, creative and fun. Loved it.

No surprise with Russia being so high.

You know, I hadn't seen the technical glitch before of Sandie Shaw's microphone not being on for her opening note. She must have been panic stricken inside for that moment.

I'm not sure if this should go here or on the Eurovision 2012 thread, but I'll post it here. This was my favourite moment during this year's Swedish selection. It's not a song though....

One of the presenters, Sarah Dawn Finer, did this little sketch where she played a fictional member (Lynda Woodruff) of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).

She also announced the Swedish votes during the big ESC as this character:
