Members Paul Raven
Boy, a long line of forgotten gameshows. And Don Ho? In some ways Y&R had an easy ride with no real competition.

Members Contessa Donatella
I have only recently, here in this thread, become aware of Y&R having clearance problems. Why was that? Possibly someone has said the reason & I just didn't see it.
Members BoldRestless
This is the list I have from @will81's research: January 1, July 2, July 25, July 29, August 28, September 18, November 14, November 28. Only 1/1 and 11/28 are confirmed so it will be interesting to see what you have! Edited January 4 by BoldRestless
Members JAS0N47
1/1/74 Tournament of Roses Parade 7/2/74 Nixon Moscow Address & Analysis 7/25/74 Judiciary Hearing, Part 1 7/29/74 Judiciary Hearing, Part 1 8/9/74 Ford Inauguration 8/28/74 is a fast weekly week, but from the Daily News listings, the only preemptions that day were for a Ford Press Conference which started at 230PM ET, so that only knocked out Edge of Night and The Doctors that day. So, that looks to be the only mistake on that list (it aired on 8/28, but not on 8/9). The Ford Inauguration only took an hour to televise from 1130AM-1230PM (no parades or anything since he was replacing Nixon), so that's why YR was the only soap preempted for it. I'm starting work on September 1974 now, so will let you know about the remaining YR preemptions as I finish that up. We also don't have the 1/14/74 and 1/21/74 data yet.
Members will81
Awesome, thank you. Great to have those confirmed and the correction for August. Look forward to getting the Sep 18 and Nov 14 pre-emptions confirmed or corrected.
Members JAS0N47
Good job on those 3 July preemptions. Didn't think you would have those 3 down to the day, but you did! How did you go about confirming those? Members will81
Thanks it was mostly the Vanderbuilt News Archive. Often missing things and I think the timezone is central but still a good resource. https://tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/siteindex/1974-7 I also did some research on newspapers.com and I think that's where I got the July 29 date or could make an educated guess. I had actually just recently changed my Aug 28 guess to Aug 08 (news on Nixon) so I was a day off there.
Members BoldRestless
Impressive work. Thanks so much @JAS0N47 for confirming as well! It's a big step to collecting all the accurate info for Y&R as you have done for your show! Members watson71
In 1974, the timeslot for Y&R on the East Coast by CBS was 12:00 PM, in between Love of Life at 11:30 and Search for Tomorrow at 12:30. CBS gave the affiliates the 1:00-1:30 timeslot for local programming. Maybe all the affiliates did not carry the show at 12:00 PM?
Members Contessa Donatella
Sure, it could be that. That timeslot, I think of it as perilous. So many shows have had problems, right before or at the lunch hour. I guess it just never was a thing in my head since it was Y&R. I knew it was a problem for PC & for Sunset Beach. (BTW, Sunset Beach was supposedly aimed at a young, urban group, but why was it on at noon?) Anyway, thanks for taking a stab at my question.
Members will81
In Pittsburgh they didn't clear Y&R for years (it aired on an independent) due to a local talk show that was very popular. The Marie Torres show, which was an hour long show from 1pm - 2pm The same station aired a newscast at 12pm and I think many stations were similar. Airing a newscast at 12pm and not willing to budge the schedule for Y&R was probably likely in many areas. It also sounds like CBS didn't try hard enough in some markets which is why Fred basically apologised to Bell for not getting clearances. Possibly Y&R was seen as too racy for some conservative CBS affiliates as well. Edited January 4 by will81
